Growing up in a wolf pack is meant to be a great experience. It’s meant to be a community and a sense of pride taken in the pack members. We are taught to respect our Alpha, Beta and Gamma. And they treat everyone in their pack like family. Well, that doesn’t work out for everyone. Sometimes, the one that acts differently in a pack is the Alpha himself. And when pack members try to leave, they are punished for it. Luckily, my mother and I were fortunate enough to be able to escape without being punished. But that did entail us leaving in the middle of the night with only a car full of stuff and avoiding all patrols as we got the hell out of there.
We were the ones that the Alpha definitely didn’t want to leave. He was obsessed with us, well with me, and that was all the more reason that we needed to get the hell out of there.
The Alpha had ordered the entire pack to keep an eye on us, and he even put patrols on us at all times. But if he thought that was going to stop me, then he was dumber than he looked.
My mother’s a doctor and with one beer and some stolen sleeping pills that she knew nothing about, they were knocked out like little babies.
I ran to my mother’s room who was working on some paperwork when I grabbed her arm urgently.
“We need to leave. We need to leave right now.” I demanded.
“What are you talking about?”
“Let’s go.” I yelled, yanking her off the bed.
We ran down the stairs and out the front door when my mother stopped momentarily when she saw the guards on the ground. She looked at me and knew that I did something but I kept yanking on her arm towards the car.
We didn’t have anything that we owned, the only thing I was able to grab was my mother’s bag. But that was all that we needed and we got in the car while I was screaming at her to floor it.
We sped through the middle of town, it was late enough so there weren’t any people around. But the patrols were alerted to our escape pretty quickly. Most likely one of our neighbors had called the Alpha.
They were ready for us at the border and I could see my mother hesitating as she saw the line of wolves blocking the road. So I reached my leg over and I pushed it on hers so that we would accelerate faster.
“Savannah. What the hell are you doing?” My mother screamed.
“If he catches us now, what the hell do you think he’s going to do to us?” I asked. Which made her realize, there’s no turning back.
We barged through the wolves that were lining the street, and most of them had enough sense to move out of the way. Only a couple of them got hit by the car and we kept moving down the highway at full speed to get away from the pack.
“I can’t believe you just did that.” My mother said, practically out of breath.
“If I had told you that I was going to do it then you would have stopped me.” I said.
“Because Alpha Calvin is not going to stop looking for us. He is going to come after us and it will be even worse when he finds us. We don’t even know where we’re going.” Mom said.
“Louisiana.” I said.
“What?” She asked, looking at me confused.
“We’re going to Louisiana. Alpha Kane at the Hidden Moon Pack.” I said. And she looked at me confused but didn’t say anything else. I don’t think she was game enough to ask me how I even knew who Alpha Kane was.
“We’re almost out of fuel.” Mom said, out of nowhere. It was the first time she’d spoken in about an hour.
“How long before we need to stop? We need to get more distance between us.”
“I know that. But the light has already come on. I need to stop at the next service station.” She said. And I flopped back on my chair, frustrated at this damn car. Frustrated with myself for not making sure that we had a full tank. I thought of everything else, and that was the one thing that was overlooked.
As soon as we came upon the next gas station my mother pulled in and I got out to go to the bathroom while she filled the car. I went into the store to see what food they had for us to snack on while we were driving when I heard the attendant calling out to me.
“Is that your mother?” He asked. So I looked up at him before I looked out the window and there was a man who had my mother around the neck and had her pressed up against the car.
I dropped everything that I had in my hands and I ran out the door and I jumped on the man’s back, causing him to let go of my mother and I punched him in the ribs several times before I jumped off of him and he turned to face me.
He was one of Alpha Calvin’s warriors. He growled at me and I punched him in the throat and I kicked him in the back of the knee, causing him to fall to his knees and I grabbed his hair and I kneed him in the face.
He fell back and hit his head on the fuel bowser and I turned to see my mother on the ground with blood pouring out of her stomach.
The attendant came running out and told us that the police were on their way. But that was the last thing we needed. So I grabbed some cash out of my mother’s bag and I gave it to him and I helped my mother into the car while I got in the driver’s seat.
“Hey. You might want to be gone by the time he wakes up. He’ll kill anything he sees.” I warned the attendant and I closed the door and put my foot on the pedal and sped away from the gas station.
“I didn’t even hear him.” Mom said.
“It’s alright. Don’t worry about that mom. I know you didn’t. It’s not your fault.” I grabbed some rags from the backseat and putting them on my mother’s wound.
I then heard a howl coming from the distance and I turned around to see that the same wolf was running in the middle of the road, in wolf form, chasing after us.
I wasn’t sure how far we would go with the fuel that we managed to get but I wasn’t slowing down for anything.
I could see that he was starting to slow down. Obviously getting tired, but that’s when I noticed that there were blurs running through the woods on either side of the car in the woods. Large wolves, sent by Alpha Calvin to bring us back.
I didn’t let my mother know that they were there, she was worried enough as it was. I was hoping that her werewolf healing powers would hurry up and kick in so that her wounds would start healing. Because I knew that we weren’t going to make it to the new pack in this car.
As soon as the car started sputtering and making noises, indicating that we were running out of gas, I looked at the map and saw that we weren’t too far from the new pack. We just needed to be able to get there.
My mother had fallen unconscious and I was looking around, in every direction to see if I could see any of the warriors following us.
As soon as the car started to die, I knew that I couldn’t leave it in the middle of the highway. So I pulled off the road and we went down into the ditch.
I got out and ran around to the other side and opened the passenger door. I woke mom up and I dragged her from the car.
She looked dazed and confused and she didn’t know what was going on. So I made sure that she was leaning on me since she was getting a lot weaker and I tried to run as fast as I possibly could.
I could hear howling behind us and I knew that they were closing in. So I tried to encourage my mother to go faster.
“Come on mom. We didn’t come this far to get caught now. We are not going back to that son of a bitch.” I demanded.
“Savannah. Leave me. You’re the one that he wants. He doesn’t care about me.” Mom said.
“No. But he’ll still kill you.” I said.
I saw the border up ahead of us and I knew that once we crossed it, the wolves following us wouldn’t be able to follow after that. They aren’t allowed on another pack territory without permission.
I could hear the warriors gaining on us, they were getting closer and closer and I could actually start to feel their breath right behind me just as mom and I jumped over the border.
I was laying on the ground and I turned back to see the warriors on the other side of the border, not being able to cross and I finally let out a sigh of relief. That is, until I saw that we were surrounded with a whole bunch of new problems.
The patrols of this pack, surrounding us and ready to attack at any moment.
As I looked around at all the warriors that were surrounding us, ready to attack, I knew that I needed to think quickly. “We need sanctuary. My mother is hurt. She needs help.” I said. My mother was laying there unconscious, blood covered the front of her shirt and they knew that I wasn’t lying. I was out of breath and the warriors on the other side of the border shifted back to their human selves so that they could speak to the patrols of this pack. “If you men would please hear me out? These two are prisoners that escaped from our pack and we are here to bring them back.” The warrior said. “I want to talk to your Alpha.” I said, standing up.The warrior across the border, glared at me like he could kill me where I stood. But even he knew that if I came back to his pack harmed, then he would be the one that got hurt. “Do you really expect me to believe that this teenager and her mother are a threat to us?” A man asked, coming through the woods. I turned to look at him. He was onl
It didn’t take long for the Alpha to arrange housing and furniture and everything that we needed since we were technically refugees. And he had me enrolled in school immediately and he also went to see my mother. He had to make sure that she really was a doctor and what I had told him was the truth. Apparently, Alpha Kane was no idiot when it came to Alpha Calvin. He knew about his many mates and he didn’t blame us for wanting to get me out of there. So on my first day of school I stopped at a diner to get some breakfast while my mother rested at home before she started work. Luckily, after seeking medical help she was healing really fast and wanted to start work as soon as possible. But as I sat at the counter in the diner with a coffee and a book, I heard the bell chime as someone else walked in and sat at the counter, a couple of stools down from me. “Hi Asher. The usual?” The waitress asked. “Yes, please.” Asher said. I didn’t look up from my book while he was sitting there wa
As soon as school was finished that day I grabbed all of my things from my locker and Asher was waiting for me out the front of the building. “I am sorry that I did that to you. But I needed you get my point. I don’t need you or anyone else to take it easy on me.” I said. “It’s alright. I’m not sore about it. That’s what we’re there for. And I was stupid for underestimating my opponent.” He said. “I’m glad that you see that.” I said. And he just shook his head. “What are you doing now?” He asked. “Well, we have no food in our house. So, I am going grocery shopping.” I said. “You don’t have a car.” He said. “I know. I’m gonna go to the hospital to get the car.” “Don’t do that. I’ll take you.” “You want to come to the grocery store with me?” I asked, skeptically. “Sure, why not?” He asked. “Alright. If you don’t think it’ll be boring. Because I really do. So, it will be quick.” “Don’t you like shopping?” He asked. “I absolutely hate it. And I only do it when I h
The following morning when I got up at 5am I went for my usual jog around the territory but I was stopped as I was running around behind some houses by someone singing out my name. “Asher.” I said as I slowly stopped. Asher stepped out from the side of his house, looking like he had slept in the yard chair that night. “What the hell are you doing?” He asked. “Jogging. What the hell are you doing?” I asked. “Dad and I got in a fight last night so I slept out here. I didn’t want to see him.” He said. “So, you slept in the yard.” I said. “Yeah. Pretty much.” He said as he slowly got up and walked over to the fence. I just shook my head at him and tried to tame his bed hair. “You shouldn’t have to sleep in the yard when you fight with your father.” I said. “I know. He doesn’t kick me out. I choose to sleep out here. Even he calls me crazy for doing it. And a stubborn teenager.” Asher said. “Well, I have to agree with him on that.” I said. “Do you jog like this every mor
I was a little frozen where I stood in the river but Asher came around in front of me, looking completely relaxed. “We’re just going for a swim Alpha. It’s really hot today.” Asher said. “What have I told you about this Asher? This isn’t a hook up spot for teenagers.” Alpha Kane said. “We weren’t hooking up. I just wanted to show Savannah the river. It’s hot and we decided to go swimming. You can’t punish us for kissing.” Asher said. “Wanna bet. Get out and get dressed. Now.” Alpha Kane demanded. So we both got out of the river and got dressed in front of the Alpha. I looked at Asher with a worried look on my face, but he just shook his head, telling me not to worry about it. “Go home Asher. I will be talking to your father about this. Savannah, you come with me.” Alpha Kane said. “I’ll see you at school tomorrow.” Asher said, holding my hand and I nodded my head. I leaned down and picked up my bag and I followed Alpha Kane. We walked all the way back to the packhouse i
When I got up the following morning at 5am I got dressed and headed downstairs and to my surprise, Asher was waiting for me out the front. “What the hell got you out of bed this early?” I asked. “Well, I thought I might give these morning jogs a go. And I think it will be a good time for us to talk about you working for the Alpha.” He said. “Why do I get the feeling that you’re about to warn me off of working for the Alpha?” “I think there’s just a few things that you need to know.” He said. “Well, I am not giving up the job. He told me that I can work from home on the computer.” I said as we started jogging down the path. “I know. But he will also have access to your computer. He will be watching everything that you are doing on there.” Asher said and that made me look at him really skeptically. “Why would he do that? Why would he care what a teenager is looking up on the internet?” I asked. “I don’t know. But he has never had a receptionist before. So, there’s somethi
“Get Paris to the hospital. She’s going to need more than the school nurse. Daniel, get this one to my office.” The Alpha ordered. So Beta Daniel grabbed my arm and he dragged me away down the hallway and around a few corners until we got to the Alpha’s office and he forced me to sit in the chair and he closed the door behind us. He leaned on the desk looking at me the whole time but I refused to look at him. I stared out the window with a very defiant look on my face. I wasn’t going to apologize for sticking up for myself. But my mother was definitely going to hear about this one and she was going to be furious. I didn’t know how I was going to talk my way out of this. I don’t think there was a way of me talking my way out of this one. The Alpha came to his office a little while later and he told Beta Daniel to leave and he sat behind his desk and leaned back on his chair. He stared at me without saying anything and I stared back at him, defiantly. I wasn’t going to walk on eg
ALPHA KANE’S POV I was sitting at my desk looking aimlessly at these papers in front of me while Savannah was working on the computer right across from me. When her phone rang, I thought she would just ignore it since she was working, but she answered it. She kept working while she answered it though, so I didn’t mind. But when I heard her mother’s voice screaming at her on the other end I couldn’t help but snap my head up to look at her. Savannah looked at me with this strange and embarrassed look on her face and she got up from her chair and she left the office. I knew that her and her mother had a really close relationship so why the hell would her mother be screaming at her on the phone like that for no apparent reason. “Daniel.” I mind linked. “Yes Alpha.” “Are you still in the packhouse?” “Yeah. I’m in the kitchen.” Daniel said. “Savannah is in the hallway outside my office. I can’t hear because she closed the door and this room is soundproof. Try and hear what she’s
