The morning light filtered through the curtains, casting shadows across Lily's face that made her look even more fragile than she already was. Two days. Forty-eight hours of sitting in this chair, holding her hand, willing her to open her eyes.

Nothing.

*She's too still,* Lucas whined in my mind. *Even her scent is... fading.*

"Don't." I squeezed Lily's fingers gently, searching for any sign of response. "Don't say that."

But Lucas was right. The vibrant warmth that had drawn me to her was dimming, like a candle slowly burning out. Dr. Reeves had checked her vitals three times yesterday her blood pressure was stable, and her heart rate was steady, but something deeper was wrong.

Something I couldn't fix by just willing it to be better.

"Any change?" Marcus's voice from the doorway made me look up. He'd checked on us every few hours, bringing food I didn't eat and updates I didn't want to hear.

"No." My voice came out rougher than I intended. "Nothing."

He stepped int

  • Luna To Alpha Ace   Chapter 71: James

The white walls of the asylum had been my prison for a month. A month of pretending to be insane, of taking their pills and nodding along with their therapy sessions. But I wasn't crazy. I was planning. Every night, I stared at the ceiling and thought about her. About Lily. About how that bastard Ace had poisoned her mind against me. About how Zoe had helped destroy everything we had. They thought they'd won. They thought putting me in here would end it. They were wrong. The bang echoed through the corridor at exactly midnight, right on schedule. I smiled as alarms began blaring throughout the building. Security guards shouted orders, their heavy footsteps pounding down the hallways. "Time to go, James." Derek Voss stood in my doorway, his rogue scent filling the small room. Behind him, three other wolves waited in the shadows. "About time," I said, pulling on the clothes he'd brought me. "We've got maybe five minutes before backup arrives," Derek said as we moved

The meeting room felt smaller with the three hostile wolves sitting across from us. Their scents reeked of aggression and barely contained violence. Marcus stood behind me, his posture tense. Lily sat to my right, her hand resting on my thigh—a silent show of support that steadied me more than she knew. "So," I said, settling back in my chair. "You have something to say?" The leader, a scarred wolf with dead eyes, leaned forward. "We represent the Northern Alliance. Five packs who've been watching your... situation." "My situation?" "Your sudden rise to Alpha King." His voice dripped with disdain. "The ring may have chosen you, but that doesn't mean we accept you." I'd expected this. The Alpha King ring hadn't been worn in over a century. Some packs had grown comfortable operating without a supreme authority. "What exactly are you proposing?" I asked. "Conditional acceptance," the second wolf said. He was younger, but his eyes held the same coldness. "We'll acknowledge

The morning sun felt like a miracle on my skin as I walked out of the medical wing for the first time in over a week. Every step reminded me how close I'd come to never taking another one. "Careful," Lily said, her arm wrapped around my waist like she was afraid I might collapse at any moment. "I'm fine, princess." "You're not fine. You died and came back to life three days ago." I stopped walking and turned to face her. "I didn't die." "Your heart stopped twice during the first night. I heard the monitors." The pain in her voice made my chest ache. I'd been unconscious for most of my recovery, but she'd lived through every terrifying moment. "I'm sorry," I said, cupping her face. "I'm sorry you had to go through that." "Don't apologize for surviving." "I'm apologizing for putting you through hell." She leaned into my touch, her eyes closing. "You're here now. That's all that matters." But I could see the shadows under her eyes, the way her hands shook slightly w

"Lily." The voice was so faint I almost missed it. A whisper that cut through the fog of exhaustion and grief that had become my world. I pulled back from Helen's embrace, my heart stuttering. "Lily." There it was again. Stronger this time. I turned toward the bed, and my world tilted off its axis. Ace's eyes were open. Those beautiful eyes that had haunted my dreams for the past week stared directly at me. "Oh my God." The words came out as a strangled sob. I stumbled toward the bed, my legs shaking so badly I nearly collapsed. My hands found his face, trembling fingers tracing the familiar lines of his cheekbones. "You're awake," I whispered, hardly daring to believe it. "You're awake." His lips curved into the faintest smile. "Hey, beautiful." That's when I completely fell apart. The tears came in violent waves, seven days of terror and grief and desperation pouring out of me all at once. I pressed my face against his chest, sobbing so hard I could barely br

One week.Seven days of watching Ace lie motionless in that hospital bed. Seven days of praying to a Moon Goddess who seemed to have forgotten I existed. The doctor's words echoed in my mind like a broken record: *"Only a miracle can save him now."*I curled up next to Ace on the narrow hospital bed, my face pressed against his shoulder. His skin was cold, still gray. The machine kept beeping their a steady rhythm, but it felt like a countdown to goodbye."Why?" I whispered into his shirt. "Why does everyone leave me?"First my parents. Then James destroyed me. I lost my baby. Now Ace was slipping away, and I couldn't do anything to stop it."Maybe I'm cursed," I said, my voice cracking. "Maybe I'm not meant to be happy."The thought hit me like a physical blow. What if this was my punishment for surviving when others didn't? What if love was something I'd never be allowed to keep?I lifted my head to look at his face. Still peaceful, still beautiful. Still gone."Please don't leave

I was halfway to the car when the bond went completely silent. Not strained. Not distant. Gone.I hit the ground hard, my knees giving out. The absence of Ace's presence was like having my heart ripped from my chest."Lily!" Eva caught me before I could fall completely. "What's wrong?""He's gone." The words came out as a whisper. "I can't feel him anymore.""That doesn't mean—""Yes, it does." I looked up at her, tears streaming down my face. "The only way a mate bond goes silent is if..." I couldn't finish the sentence."No." Eva's voice was fierce. "No, he's not dead. He can't be."But I knew. Deep in my bones, I knew something terrible had happened."We have to go," I said, struggling to stand. "We have to go now.""Lily, if he's..." Eva's voice broke. "If something happened, it's not safe.""I don't care about safe!" I screamed. "He's my mate! He's my everything!"The silence where our bond used to be was deafening. I pressed my hand to my chest, but there was nothing—just empti
