When I arrived, Marcus was waiting in my office, his expression grim. Papers were scattered across my desk, and he looked like he'd been pacing.

"Tell me you have good news," I said, closing the door behind me.

"Depends on your definition of good news."

I sat down heavily in my chair. "Just tell me."

Marcus pulled out his phone and showed me a series of photos. "I went back to the ritual site with a tracking team. We found these."

I studied the images. Footprints in the mud, barely visible but distinct.

"Kayla's prints?"

"Not just hers. Someone else was there too. Someone who covered their tracks better."

"Who?"

"That's where it gets interesting." Marcus swiped to the next photo. "We found this about fifty yards from the ritual circle."

It was a piece of fabric. Dark blue, torn and dirty.
