AMERIE

I must have been crazy. How could I agree to Matthew's offer when I barely knew him? It was like throwing myself to a lion.

Yes, a lion. I could feel his wildness throughout our sex.

Oh, Goddess! How could I think such a thing right now?

"Are you sure about your decision?" The question snapped me from my thoughts. "There won't be turning back after this. I won't let you go, even when you beg me. You're mine or a month or never." Matthew threatened with possessiveness in his voice.

I should have feared, as I was aware that he could do everything to crush someone. But strangely, he sounded protective of me, and I knew I would be safe in his arms.

I nodded. "As long as you keep your promise, I'll keep mine, too. I will be your girlfriend, and you will only be my boyfriend." I had determined and known the consequences, too. At worst, he would break his promises, and I would be free.

He raked my body up and down before licking his lips. "Hm.. Sounds perfect."

I couldn't help but raise an eyebrow every time he did that. He seemed to enjoy examining my body like a lion observing his prey. In my case, a prey for his lust.

I was about to ask when a ding was heard, and soon, the door to the elevator that brought us down opened.

"Why don't we begin to hold hands?" He asked, offering a hand, which I accepted wholeheartedly.

"Sure."

Then we walked out of the elevator side by side with hands entangled with each other.

"Alpha." A male greeted us as soon as we arrived at his place. He must be the Beta, to whom Matthew had been talking before. He glanced at me, and I saw questions in his eyes. He must be wondering who I was.

But Matthew didn't stop. He kept walking, leaving me with no choice except to follow him, not even introducing myself. "Do we find them?"

The Beta shook his head. "Our men are tracking them, but they seem good at hiding." He trailed behind us, taking steps on the other side of Matthew. "They must be leaving a few hours before we found their camp."

"For how long they camped there?"

"We don't know, Alpha. But it must be over a day, and they seemed to plan well because we found nothing except their ashes."

"Of course, they are well planned. They have nothing but run." Matthew talked in disgust.

Matthew gave a glimpse of the matter before we left the room. It was about rogue, and this discussion must be the same.

"Add more men to secure our border and scout the neutral forest. We cannot let this slide our watch again."

"Noted, Alpha."

We continued walking until we reached a black sedan outside the building. The Beta rushed to the driver's seat. Meanwhile, Matthew took a passenger seat alongside me after deliberately waiting for me to enter the car first.

This sight must have been odd enough for the Beta, so he asked, "Anyway, Alpha, may I know the lady beside you?"

"My girlfriend. Amerie."

I instantly rolled my eyes. How could Matthew give such a reply to his people? It clearly didn't fulfill the Beta's curiosity.

"Hello. My name is Amerie Blunt. Don't worry. I'm not a rogue, and I'm not planning anything against any pack. I'm just a university student in this city who happened to meet your Alpha." I began my introduction. "I hear you are his Beta. Nice to meet you." I continued with the sweet greeting.

The Beta glanced through the rearview as he drove the car, leaving the hotel area. "Yes. I'm the Beta. My name is Paul. Nice to meet you, Amerie. I didn't know my Alpha had such a beautiful girlfriend as you."

I hesitated for a moment. Should I tell the truth or just keep it the way it was?

"I bet you didn't know. We just met last night. And this morning, your Alpha asked me to follow him." In the end, I decided to tell everything. Paul is Matthew's trusted man, isn't he? So, he deserved the truth.

"Oh, really?" Paul tried to sound surprised, but the way it didn't bother me. However, I could see through his response. He became a bit agitated.

"Don't worry, Paul. As I said, I don't plan to hurt anyone, not you, your Alpha, or your pack. Matthew and I had a great night, and we agreed to continue that." I repeated my words, reassuring him. "But if you think I will harm your pack, you can kill me any time."

A loud growl suddenly erupted into the air. "No one will kill you."

Well, I actually didn't mean it. Because I had confidence in my words, I could say that I had never had a plan to hurt anyone. I was here, far from my family, seeking peace, not the other way around.

I turned sideways, giving Matthew a reassuring smile. "That's good, then. I don't want to die either."

"No one will die on my watch." Matthew still had a scowl on his face.

"Yes, I know."

Then, the room was silent. It seemed I was wrong to bring up such a topic. After talking about the rogue, I should have been more optimistic about easing the tension.

Fortunately, Paul stepped in my place to brighten the atmosphere. "Nice to see you together." Through the rearview, I could see a smile, which was kind of suspicious. For some reason, he looked like he was enjoying this.

"Have you found your mate, Paul?" I asked, changing the topic. As a Beta, Paul has an above-average body. He is tall, though a bit shorter than Matthew, and has muscles that are heaven-sight for women.

Of course, not me because I already had Matthew.

"Not yet," Paul answered.

"Girlfriend?"

"Nope."

So, he was single. No wonder he looked carefree.

"How about a crush?" I kept asking. Paul looked the same age as us, so it was impossible he didn't have a female he fancied.

Paul scratched the back of his head. "I have. But I don't think it's appropriate to call her a crush."

"Why?"

"She is underage."

"She'll be eighteen in three months." Matthew suddenly joined, causing my head to turn at him. He was no longer scowling.

"Oh, really?" I returned my focus to the Beta. "She'll probably be your mate." Werewolves usually find their mate after turning eighteen. But of course, some find them sooner, and some never find them.

Like me.

Relax. I no longer pitied myself for the fate Goddess threw at me, though I would be in bliss if she sent me one. But on the good side, I could choose whoever I loved to be my mate without fate forcing us to be together. Who knew my destined mate was cruel?

Okay. I tried to be optimistic here, so don't condemn me.

"I hope so."

Then, we talked about how Paul should approach her and gain her trust. I also gave advice on treating females. Oh, and we talked about how much we loved muscle, so they better show off more often.

"Mine is better," Matthew said with jealousy in his voice.

I rolled my eyes in disbelief. He is indeed a typical Alpha.

AMERIE"Right. Your family. Let's talk about them."I swallowed hard at Miley's words. Why did I bring up my family?"You said you have an older brother." My heartbeat raced as she recalled my story. "Is that it? Only one sibling?"I nodded, too quickly, which I tried to correct and ease by speaking, "He's my lovely brother, though a lot of times he gives me a headache.""Exactly." Her quick response surprised me. "Imagine that annoying brother is also an Alpha." Followed by her complaint."That must double the annoyance." I grimaced, actually talking about myself. I could picture my brother's overprotectiveness toward Matthew. It was irking, especially when I was adult enough to be my own.She exhaled, throwing her back on the chair. "I hope I can meet my mate and move out of his watch.""Won't it be worse? What if he is more overprotective than your brother?"She winced, clearly hating the idea. "Don't throw me that image. I cannot even picture myself being confined." She shuddered

MATTHEWThe first thing I did after leaving the packhouse was go to the south border and visit the hospital. I had gotten the update about the hurt warrior. Still, I had to check on him in person."How are you doing?" I asked the hurt warrior lying on the bed. He had regained consciousness, and his color had returned. He didn't reply right away and gave a respectful nod to me. "Better, Alpha. The doctor managed to pull out the bullet and the remaining silver from my blood."I nodded in acknowledgement. It was what they reported to me. "That's good. I hope you will get well soon.""Thank you for your concern, Alpha."I took a chair near the bed and continued talking. "Now that you're better, can you tell me what happened to you?""Yes." He then straightened his posture, preparing himself for the story. "I was rounding the neutral forest as I was assigned. It was normal, and I didn't spot anything unusual. Then, as I was running, suddenly I heard a gunshot. And when I turned my head to

AMERIEMy day went as usual. I trained with Nina and Miley. We were sparring, being enemies to each other, or two versus one. Sometimes we used wooden tools, though most of the time we did it by hand. After two hours of training, I chose the library and books to be my companions. I wandered through shelves, gathering a pile of books, which I doubted I could read. Still, I brought it with me to the desk near the window. And then, my reading time began."Amy, do you hear me?" A question and a handwave in front of me snapped me from my reverie.Wait.Wasn't I reading? Then, when did I start looking out of the window instead of focusing on my books? And when did Miley sit there?"You're here." I didn't answer her but voiced my surprise."Of course, I'm here. We came here together." She grunted, and only then did a realization hit me. Indeed, she and I went to the library together after finishing the training session. And we parted ways to look for our separate collections.I grinned silli

  • Luna by Contract   Chapter 23 - Marriage and Being the Luna

AMERIEI knew something was wrong since the first day I had been here. It wasn't about Matthew, his family, his people, or this place. It was about the circumstances. Rogue is never a light issue for any pack. And I was aware that it was escalating for the worse when Matthew left me this afternoon.Something was going on, and I had to know about that. The question was, was it appropriate to ask for details when I was still new to this pack and barely an outsider to him?But if I didn't ask or learn about his situation, how could I help? These people relied on him. As his girlfriend...Wait.I was merely a girlfriend, wasn't I? Why should I think about them as if I were going to be their Luna? We could dump each other and end the deal at anytime. So I had to position myself like I was. A girlfriend. Nothing more. But it somehow felt wrong."I heard about what happened today. I'm sorry." I began my words. "Is it the same rogue?"Silence for a few seconds as Matthew's gaze bore deep into

MATTHEW"I heard from my warrior," Zurin said once the call connected. I was still at the south border, occupying one of the hospital rooms, when my Alpha friend messaged me to have a conversation immediately. "Is your pack safe?" He asked. If he sounded like he was holding his anger earlier, now there was a glimpse of worry in his question."Aside from what happened on the south border, everything is fine. I have added more men to patrol the border and tighten our security." I told him. There was no need to hide it as we agreed to face this together."I will also order my men to round the neutral forest to look for their trace. They must be hiding somewhere near us."My jaws hardened, teeth gritted at the truth in his words. It was undeniable that they were closer, as evidenced by their ability to surprise us with this sudden attack. And I bet this was only the beginning. A reminder that they would always be our ghosts and haunt our lives.Fuck them."Have you talked to Ty and Carlo?

  • Luna by Contract   Chapter 21 - The Wounded Warrior

MATTHEWI was right that Amerie was in the middle of her run when she stopped at the flower shop. She was initially with Miley. But my sister went ahead after she asked her to, and Miley planned to run more. Meanwhile, it was enough for Amerie, who previously had also received some training at the facility and friendly sparring with Nina. Thus, they parted ways. And then I came into the picture."I'm sorry I forgot to introduce myself. My name is Amerie, Alpha Matthew's girlfriend." Amerie said as sweetly as her smile to the florist, who seemed not to be surprised by this revelation. The florist must have guessed from our interactions and the way I treated Amerie. "So, this is the Alpha's girlfriend people are talking about." She returned the smile before slightly bending forward to show her respect. "It's an honor to meet our future Luna. My name is Sarah."Amerie's body tensed, followed by an awkward chuckle and response. "Your future Luna? You're thinking too far ahead.""No, Ameri
