Seraphine

I looked up to see the Beta standing in front of me, a tray with tea in hand. Why…?

“I thought you could use a warm drink after a swim,” he said, placing the tray on a nearby table. His sudden presence stopped me cold; I had been on the verge of crying, and of course, I couldn't break down now.

“Why would you? You’re no butler or servant,” I challenged. He was, after all, a noble—unlike me.

“I am still obligated, as Beta, to maintain oversight regarding the welfare of any candidate for Luna.” he stated simply.

I couldn’t help but laugh at the way he spoke. “You speak so lifeless.”

I rested my chin on the back of my hand and gave my head a slight tilt. “Well then, Beta, for the ‘welfare’ of this candidate, you wouldn’t mind accompanying me for a while, would you?”

I saw how he averted his gaze and lightly touched his earlobe. “Not at all,” he replied.

Oh. Was he feeling shy? I couldn't help but cover my mouth, completely overwhelmed and delighted by the sight of his crimson e

ErsaOnce I gained my composure, I forced myself to return to the mansion. I found Seraphine in one of the living rooms.“Oh, there you are, Ersa. So, you did withdraw as well,” she said. She stood up, gently grabbing my hand and pulling me down to sit beside her.“In the end, Everine won,” she informed me, pouting slightly. “I honestly thought it would be you.”“Why would you think that?” I asked, looking at her curiously.“Well, aren’t you and the Alpha... well, never mind.”I didn’t want to talk about it anymore, but I couldn't help asking the one question that would give me facts to cling to, rather than feelings. “How did she win?”“Actually, that wasn’t the test,” Seraph corrected me, her voice buzzing with fresh gossip. “It was a last man standing kind of thing. Lyanna told me that when you dropped out, she decided to as well.” Then she leaned closer, dropping her voice to a low, conspiratorial whisper: “Despite her sitting on his lap and kissing him, it won’t get up.”“What wo

ErsaNothing of note happened for the past few weeks, a strange lull that only broke when the last special test was finally announced. By next week, we were scheduled to face the First Trial: Wolf’s Fang.We were all summoned and lined up outside a designated room.“A pleasant day to you, ladies. This will be the last time I will be handling your special test. A different Prefect will be assigned once the first Trial is finished,” Madame Koraline explained. With the Trial drawing near, I couldn’t help but be plagued by the memory of the Phantom Alpha’s words: to continue with the Trials.I felt a sudden chill run down my spine at the thought. If I do continue, will I actually find something by the end of it?“I will miss you, Madame Koraline!” Seraph declared with dramatic, teary eyes.“Oh, quit your acts, Seraphine. If those tears are real, I’d say they’re out of happiness now that I’m leaving,” Madame Koraline replied dryly.Seraph giggled at the Prefect’s comment.“Let us move on.”

ErsaI understood fully well. That feeling when you think no one would listen, or that they simply wouldn’t care enough to try. I didn't want Seraph to feel that isolation—not Seraph. She was a friend I never thought I would even meet.“Thank you,” she murmured when we returned to the mansion. “I think I’m going to sleep for the whole day.”I just nodded; her eyes were swollen and puffy. She desperately needed the rest.As I decided to head toward my own room, I suddenly heard the Alpha’s voice echoing down the hall. I quickly flattened myself against the nearest corner. Right, his room is around this area.Surely, he wouldn't notice my scent from this distance, would he? I was too far to be detected.I risked a slight peek, only to see him standing with Everine. She offered him a sweet, unguarded smile before lightly kissing him on the cheek, just before both of them stepped inside the room.I was genuinely shocked.I had never considered they had that kind of close relationship. A s

SeraphineI watched Ersa, who was humming softly as she sat right by the pool edge, near the ladder, wiggling her bare feet in the water. She was completely absorbed.“Well, someone’s in a fantastic mood,” I chirped. I was genuinely happy she was staying for the Second Calling, but honestly, she’d been vibrating with a weird, extra energy ever since she spoke with the Alpha.“Am I?” she asked, her voice light, but I caught the way she deliberately didn't meet my eyes.“Uh-huh. Why not join me here in the water?” I asked, swimming closer to her.“I’ll have to pass; I just took a bath,” she replied.“How unfortunate.” I stared at her with hawk-like eyes. Something was definitely up. “Don’t tell me... did you hook up with the Alpha?” I watched as her face literally flushed, a wave of panic surging across it. I could already guess she was about to get super defensive.“Of course not, we just talked,” she replied, quickly pulling her usual composure back into place. I knew it. They did, di

ErsaI kept pacing back and forth, just a few anxious steps away from the Alpha’s study. I had decided to visit him the moment I felt recovered enough to walk; I had to talk to him.Where should I begin? Thanking him, of course, but then how was I supposed to open the subject of my elimination? I rehearsed the words in my head.I couldn't stay idle for long. With a deep breath, I took one last step toward the door when it suddenly burst open. A slightly furious-looking Alpha came barreling out.He immediately began massaging his temples, radiating palpable frustration. He glared at the precise spot where I was standing. “Just knock, Soltharic.”“Pardon?” I stammered, completely startled."How do you expect me to work when your frantic, nervous scent has been assaulting my study for two hours straight?"I froze. I couldn't speak for a moment. I had never felt so utterly embarrassed and stupid at the same time. Right. The scent.“R-right. I wanted to speak with you,” I managed, still re
