Chapter Nine: Betrayed

The moon was high in the sky as we ran through the forest, the sound of our footsteps echoing through the night. We had just defeated our enemy, and I felt a sense of relief wash over me. But that feeling was short-lived.

As we reached our territory, we saw something that made our blood run cold. Our packhouse was on fire.

Without hesitation, we sprinted towards the burning building, desperate to save anyone who might be trapped inside. As we got closer, I saw a figure standing in front of the flames, a smirk on its face.

It was Jaxon.

"What are you doing?" I shouted, my heart pounding in my chest.

"I'm finishing what I started," Jaxon replied, his eyes gleaming with malice.

I felt a sense of betrayal wash over me. How could he do this to us? We had spared his life, and now he was repaying us by burning down our home.

"Stop, Jaxon. Please, don't do this," I pleaded, hoping to reason with him.
