Zara's POV

As I passed through several passages yet again which felt almost stuffed for me. My palms were damp against the fabric of my dress as I followed Forbes through the endless stone passages of the fortress. Each step I took felt like an echo against the towering walls, heightening the weight pressing down on my chest.

Ever since I had arrived here, an unsettling feeling had settled in my gut. I had barely seen Cade since the carriage ride after I was sedated to sleep, and now, as Forbes led me deeper into his domain, I couldn't stop the nervous anticipation from coiling within me.

We finally came to a stop in front of an imposing wooden door, reinforced with thick black metal. Forbes turned to face me, his sharp eyes scrutinizing me thoroughly.

“This is the Alpha King’s private study,” he said, his voice even but firm. “You do not come here unless you are summoned. Do you understand?”

I swallowed hard and nodded. “Yes.”
