chapter 57

Catherine pov.

I found myself standing alone in a deserted area, with no one around. I was terrified as I yelled everyone's names, but received no response. My eyes scanned the barren landscape, searching for any sign of life. The air was thick with the stench of decay, and my nostrils were assaulted by the acrid odor. The only sound I could hear was the pounding of my heart, which seemed to be racing faster with each passing second. My body was frozen inside, rooted to the spot.

"Catherine," I heard my name, and I turned around to see Lux and my son in his hands staring at me. My eyes widened as I took in the sight of them. Lux's face was etched with sadness, and my son's eyes were filled with confusion. The touch of fear gripped me, and I wondered what had happened to them.

"How come Catherine?" His tone was so sad that I couldn't understand what he meant. I struggled to find the words to answer him.

"Lux!" I yelled as I ran to meet him, but he was too far away. My feet pounded the
