Willow Baker POV

Maverick remained silent, as if contemplating his words. I couldn't help feeling uneasy about what he wanted to say.

Was it something truly horrible that he had trouble finding the words, and why couldn't I remember it?

"Do you remember the first time we met?" he settled on.

I blinked before saying, "Yes?"

Why was he bringing it up now?

I had thought he wanted to talk about the reason why he had apologized to me.

He grimaced as he slowly said, "I was under the impression you willingly offered yourself to me that night."

Then it clicked as I made a small noise. So that was why he was apologizing to me. It never occurred to me that would be what he had been talking about, but considering how few interactions we had with one another, I shouldn't have been surprised.
