3: MEETING AN ALPHA

SELENE

What in the hell just happened right now? There was a serious pounding in my head as I sat there on the floor, heart thumping in my chest, cloth soaked in blood.

Everything felt intense for no reason, the sunlight was too bright, and the birds were chirping too loud.

Even the breeze against my skin felt too harsh for my liking, it was like my sensitivity to everything had increased…

I gasped as my hands flew to my belly, my baby!

If I was brought back, what about my baby, what are the chances that my baby was saved too?

I anxiously felt around my stomach, trying to sense my child within me, was it still alive? I wanted so badly for it to be alive, please, Lunar!

“I told you, Lunar does not heed your requests!” a small windy voice whispered.

It felt more like a thought originating inside my head than an outside voice speaking to me.

I gasped and spun around, this was the second time I had heard it, but there was nobody around me, I was all alone, in a pool of my own blood.

“Who are you?” My voice was hoarse and very weak.

“Do you wish to know that or do you wish to know about your baby?” the internal voice answered.

I gasped and my eyes widened, “Please, tell me that my baby is alright, tell me my baby is safe too!” I prayed for it, I was wishing it into being, please Lunar, let my baby be alright!

“Your baby is dead!” there was no empathy whatsoever behind the voice, it said it as dryly as it said every other thing it said.

“Oh no,” I fell on my face and began to sob and whimper, tears poured down my cheeks as I clenched my bloodied stomach in both hands.

This could not be happening, my child was stolen from me, by the father of all people, how could Alpha Lucas be so wicked as to kill his own child?

The cold tip of a sharp blade pressed into my back and my entire body stiffened.

“Get to your feet… slowly!” a deep voice bellowed from behind me.

My cries caught in my throat and I stopped sniffling and suddenly opened my eyes wide. The last of the tear drops rolled down freely and dropped to the forest ground.

Carefully and slowly, just like the voice had instructed, I got to my feet. Who was it? Was Alpha Lucas back to finish the job?

“Turn around… slowly,” the voice commanded again.

I could still feel the tip of the blade pressing against my back as I slowly turned around, the pointy edge scraping softly against the fabric of my clothes as I spun.

As soon as I was facing forward, the blade moved quickly from my belly and went to my neck and pressed against it softly but firmly.

My eyes were bloodshot because of all the tears that I had shed and I was burning with anger when I finally looked up at my attacker.

The man was tall, roguishly handsome with a square jaw and long dark hair that fell all the way to the back of his neck.

His most striking feature apart from his face, which seemed to have been crafted by the goddess of beauty herself, was a pair of menacing blue eyes that held my gaze and stared at me with suspicion.

“Who the hell are you and what are you doing here?” he asked in that same deep voice that sent a tingle down my spine.

The blade that he was holding was long, about five inches in length, broad, and had teeth like a bread knife and it was pressed against my neck.

I could feel blood dripping from where the blade made contact with my skin, it was so sharp that just a gentle press was enough to nick me.

The aggression and anger never left my face, I didn’t know who the handsome stranger was but he was in my way, he was an obstacle that needed to go.

“Kill him!” the thin voice whispered.

He finally broke eye contact and looked me over, pausing slightly when he saw the blood stains on my clothes.

That was my opening, his momentary lapse in concentration, I waved up my left hand and knocked his knife-holding hand clean from my throat and then brought forth my claws and went straight for his eyes.

The man leaned backward agilely, stopping my claws from scooping out his eyes and he shoved me backward with his other hand, putting some distance between him and me.

I staggered before regaining my balance and then I snarled and came at him again.

I didn’t know what was going on but the instant we started fighting, the scent in the environment started to change.

The scent of dried blood and forest soil was replaced with the smell of Moon Flowers and raw hormones, combining together to create a very potent and stimulating scent.

I closed the distance between the both of us, swiping wildly with my claws, trying to peel the skin off his bones and hurt him for daring to put a dagger on me.

The man was agile too, weaving left and right, avoiding my attacks but at the same time, not trying to attack again.

I didn’t care, if he was not going to fight back, then he would die where he stood.

I leaped in the air and he abandoned his dagger and caught me, spun around and slammed my back into a nearby tree, and pressed closely onto me, pinning me to the tree.

The scent of raw hormones from up close was irresistible and I felt a sudden overwhelming urge to fuck this man and not kill him.

He held me firmly, as he leaned in close, his

nose sniffling my neck as he brought his face close to mine then he growled, “Mate!”

TRISTAN What would I like to know…I took a slow breath. How should I explain that I was looking for a way to break a curse that controlled someone…?“I need information about a curse,” I said carefully. “One that might…merge with a person, it does not really possess the person, it stays inside them but it can take control especially at night and turn the person into something else.”The record keeper’s expression did not change, but the flicker in her gaze told me she might know something about this and then her eyes slowly drifted closed. The record keepers were more than just librarians, they were the hidden eyes of the pack, mysterious, ancient, and terrifyingly well informed generations of women who passed knowledge down like sacred relics, locking truths away where no one else could find them. You could live your whole life in the same pack as them and never see their faces. But they saw everything and if anyone could give me the answers I wanted, it would be them. The woman in

TRISTAN It had been a few days since Selene and I had gotten back together, of waking up with her tangled in my sheets, of holding her close Bf listening to the steady rhythm of her heartbeat against my chest…and it could nevertheless be better. The week I had spent without her had been unbearable like a kind of slow burning torture that clawed at my chest and left me hollow no matter how many responsibilities I buried myself in, and I did not want to go through that ever again.Selene had reassured me that she was sure the Night Ripper would not try to use her anymore, and as much as I trusted her and believed in her, there was a part of me that could not afford to rely on faith alone. What if the night ripper was not gone? What if Selene’s promise had been a hopeful guess, not a certainty? What if next time a monster takes over her, she does not wake up?I clenched my fists, trying to shake off the spike of fear that shot through me. No…I will not lose her again.I was the Alpha, i

SELENETristan's eyes widened the moment the words left my lips, and I pressed my lips together, but it was too late. With nothing left to say I turned around, intent on leaving him and giving him the space he so obviously wanted, but his fingers wrapped around my wrist, pulling me back until my chest was flush with his and his arms wrapped around me.“Selene…” he buried his nose in my hair as he pulled in a deep breath. “I'm so sorry, Selene. Forgive me.”My hands found their way around Tristan's waist, holding on for dear life, like I was floating and he was the only one anchoring me back to the ground, and in a way he was.I was willing to give up on getting revenge on Lucas if I could spend the rest of my life right here in Tristan's arms, but I needed to do something about Xercer or I would never be free to live my life.“I had no idea somewhere like this existed,” I said softly, my voice barely rising above the gentle rustle of leaves and the babble of the creek below. The sky a

SELENEThe sun was already starting to dip in the sky by the time I finally found Tristan.I was heading back to the pack house, ready to call it a day and hole myself up in my room for another week again when a familiar scent hit me, stopping me in my tracks.Tristan…my heart skipped at beat, and I could feel my wolf stir in excitement which I could not blame her because I had missed him too.I followed the trail without hesitation, weaving through the trees behind the pack house until I got to a place that made me gasp out loud.Has this always been here…? I thought to myself as I took a few steps further, staring at the mini creek surrounded by rocks and grasses. How had I not known about this?Movement out of the corner of my eye caught my attention, and there he was…Tristan…this place was quiet, peaceful and secluded, of course he would come here.He was sitting on a flat rock near the edge of the creek, his elbows on his knees and his head bowed like the weight of the world was

  • Luna's Revenge    Chapter 76: SILENCE

SELENE “You have wallowed enough, Selene.” I muttered to myself as I sat up one morning, pushing the covers off me like it was suffocating me. It had been a week, a whole damn week, and Tristan still had not come to talk to me.I did not care what he was avoiding or what excuses he had, but this silence was not just hurting me. It was tearing us both apart. And if there was even a chance left to fix it, I had to try. We needed to talk, and we needed to do it now.Everytime a knock sounded on the door, I would feel myself getting my hopes up although I knew it was just one of the maids bringing in my food, but I could not stop myself from thinking, maybe it's Tristan this time…maybe he's finally ready to talk….Despite my anger at him, I still had not gotten the courage to go and look for him, but I needed to do it. I could not just sit here waiting for him, curled up on the bed with his pillow tucked under my arm, trying to pretend the

TRISTAN I swallowed hard, suddenly exhausted although I was a bit happy for the distraction Tibet brought from my thoughts.“I'm fine Tibet. I'm the alpha, it's my job to protect the pack.”“That’s bullshit,” he snapped. “You do not get to play the martyr and think that protects the rest of us. You are our Alpha, if something happens to you, the pack would fall apart.”“Tibet…” I stared at him for a few seconds, and for the first time in days, I allowed myself to be truly vulnerable.“I’m tired,” I said quietly as I buried my face in my hands. “I know I’m not invincible, I feel it every second of the day. I’m tired, I’m barely sleeping, and I’m fighting like hell just to keep my head above water. Everything is falling apart, from Selene, to the pack…I’m trying, Tibet, but I do not have all the answers.”“Selene?” Tibet asked confused. “Is anything going on with both of you?”“Selene is…” I started, but the res

  • Luna's Revenge    Chapter 74: TIRED

TRISTAN I stood outside the door to our room, my fists clenched at my sides as I listened to Selene break down into sobs.Selene never cried…not like this. The last time she had was months ago when she talked about Lucas betraying her and killing her baby, so whatever this is has to be as bad as that, if not worse.A huge part of me was itching to open the door again and go to her, to hold her until she calmed down and promise her that we could figure this out together. Each sob that slipped through the door tore at something in me and a primal part of me, my wolf, howled to go in there, to hold her and to make it stop…to fix it, but I did not move, I could not do that, not after last night, not after she kept lying and hiding things from me instead of letting me in.Because as much as I loved her, I could not ignore everything that happened last night, I could not put anything or anyone over the lives of my pack members. As th

SELENE"I’m still me, Tristan." I said, my voice trembling. "Please believe that.” I bit my lip so hard I tasted blood.Tristan did not answer me, and that silence hurt more than anything he could have said, and when he finally turned back to look at me, his expression was unreadable, a mask of stone."You should rest, you will need your strength."And then without another word, he turned and walked out, the door clicking softly shut behind him.I stayed where I was, my body trembling, my heart breaking a little more with every step he took away from me.What the fuck am I going to do?I buried my face in my hands as the tears poured down my cheeks. My whole body shook as I sobbed really hard from the weight of my emotions, the force of my grief crashing over me like a relentless wave. The way Tristan had looked at me before he left…that hollow, disappointed stare he gave me like I was not the woman he

  • Luna's Revenge    Chapter 72: CHASM

SELENE The blood drained from my face at Tristan's words. "I…" The words tangled on my tongue and my mouth opened and closed multiple times as I tried to figure out what to say, but nothing was coming. What happened last night? I could not remember anything…but Tristan must have seen something…something that told him I was behind the night ripper he had been after all these while. But what…? I could not say too much and risk giving out information that he did not know and digging an even deeper grave for myself. I felt like I was drowning, struggling to breathe through the sudden weight pressing down on my chest. "Where do I even start?" Tristan muttered after a few seconds of watching me flounder around for what to say, dragging a hand through his hair, making it even messier. "Start what?" I whispered as I stared at him, my heart hammering against my ribs. Goddess…why did my voice sound so small? Tristan exhaled sharply, then pushed himself up from the chair as he started t
