Chapter 91

Victor POV

The wind blew strongly across the high ridge, strong and heavy.

And below, the valley stretched wide and waiting—bare of movement, thick with tension. The Blackmist border loomed in the near distance. So close I could smell it.

Enough waiting.

I turned from the ridge, eyes sweeping over the warriors assembled behind me. Two hundred of them. The best. Trained in fire and blood. My shadow wolves, bound by oath and fear and the quiet promise of power I had yet to unleash.

They were watching me now—silent, focused, waiting for my word.

I bared my teeth in a grin that held no warmth. Only hunger.

“I’m done waiting,” I said, voice low but sharp enough to cut through the wind. “Every hour we waste gives them time to prepare. Time to doubt. Time to hope.”

A ripple of unease moved through the front ranks. I welcomed it.

“Hope,” I spat, stepping forward. “That’s what makes them weak. That’s what makes them foolish. That’s what ends tonight.”

The crowd began to shift—eyes

Luca POVI stared at the maps spread across my desk, my mind still squirling with thoughts. I’d looked at this same terrain for hours, memorized every tree line, every slope. But nothing made sense today. Every route I drew ended in blood.Victor’s men weren’t just testing our borders—they were taunting us.I rubbed the heel of my hand against my temple. Sleep had been a luxury I hadn’t tasted in three days. Aria’s voice had been the only thing tethering me to sanity. Her sharp, grounded logic. Her refusal to let me spiral. But she hadn’t come by tonight. And that silence was starting to claw at my chest.A knock landed against my door, sharp and quick.“Enter,” I said, too tired to care who it was.A guard stepped in, barely able to breath like he ran a marathon to get here. “Alpha,” he said, then hesitated—like he was about to deliver a death sentence.I straightened, already on edge. “Spit it out.”He cleared his throat. “One of the East Wing warriors… Zane… he said Aria collapse

Light slipped through the curtains in lazy stripes, soft and quiet like it wasn’t supposed to be waking me. But my body had other ideas. I shifted under the blankets, trying to ignore the twist in my stomach that had been hanging around for days now. That kind of nausea that doesn’t just come and go—it lingers, waiting to catch you off guard.Today, though, it was worse. Way worse.I peeled my eyes open, blinking against the pale morning light. My body felt heavy. Sitting up was a slow, clumsy thing, and my legs threatened to give out beneath me. I grabbed the edge of the bed, steadying myself with a breath I didn’t know I was holding. Then it hit.The sickness, sharp and cruel. I barely made it to the side before doubling over, the world tilting sideways as I emptied everything I had. The sound of it felt loud in the quiet room, more raw than I expected. When it was over, I stayed there, leaning against the wall, chest shaking, trying to catch my breath. The sting at the corners of

Aria's POV The clang of blades striking echoed across the training fields, rhythmic and sharp. Warriors were everywhere—young, old, seasoned, raw—each one locked in the dance of war, prepping for something they all knew was coming. Elena walked quietly beside me, arms folded, her face unreadable. I kept my eyes on the field but my thoughts wandered. It was strange seeing them all train like this, some of them barely more than boys, clinging to discipline to hide the fear simmering beneath their skin. This wasn’t practice anymore. This was survival prep.“You think they’ll hold if Victor storms the borders?” I asked.Elena gave a dry laugh. “They’ll try. Most will die first. But they’ll try.”We slowed our steps near a group of younger warriors—maybe no older than twenty—practicing close-range maneuvers. One of them broke away when he saw us. He was tall, his black hair tied back, sweat shining down his neck. He jogged over, wearing the kind of smile that had gotten him into and out o

Luca’s POVThe war table was scattered with maps—hand-drawn layouts of the South Wing, border trails, known routes Victor might use. I leaned forward, elbow resting beside a marked-out path leading from the valley toward the ridge.“We double their numbers,” Elijah was saying, eyes narrowed. “But they’ve got the position. If they’ve fortified the South Wing, it won’t be easy picking them off without a loss.”“Then we don’t go in blind,” I said, tapping one of the corners of the map. “We funnel them. Push them toward the ridge and cut them off from supplies. If we force their hand, they’ll slip.”He nodded, his focus locked for a moment—until it wasn’t.A long silence passed between us before he finally spoke, more cautious now. “And Elena?”My head didn’t move, but I felt my shoulders tense.“What about her?” I asked, though I already knew.“You haven’t looked her in the eye since the meeting,” Elijah said, voice low. “And earlier... she seemed like she wanted to speak to you.”I exha

Aria POV The sunlight filtered in, slicing thin gold lines through the curtains and across my face. It took me a moment to remember where I was.And what I had seen.I sat up slowly, the weight of the vision still pressing against my ribs like something physical. I hadn’t dreamed it. I hadn’t imagined Victor’s voice or the blood on Luca’s chest or the emptiness that followed. That was the future. Or… it could be.I ran a hand through my hair and let my feet find the cold floor. Luca had said we’d talk today—in the war room. I didn’t know what that meant for the pack or for me. But I knew one thing: if there was even a chance I could stop that future from happening, I’d do whatever it took. The halls of the packhouse were unusually quiet as I made my way through them. Like everyone was holding their breath, waiting for something to crack. Warriors passed me with nods, their faces grim, their bodies tense. The air buzzed with the memory of yesterday’s clash and the fear of whatever cam
