The cage around me grows smaller and smaller, the longer I stare at the walls, ceiling, even the furniture I once chose and loved, seem to cramp the room even more right now, suffocating me. Feeling the pain in my leg just adds up to it. Drake has a huge temper, just as every Alpha or, to be precise, most werewolves have an issue with temper. As early dawn breaks through the window, the hustle and bustle are already everywhere to be heard. It seems the entire pack is already up and out there, preparations running in all directions. On one hand, to welcome the guests, on the other, running all precautions possible for a possible attack or anyone entering who's not supposed to be here, which is a huge task, seeing as there are many strangers out there today.Today, the heads of twelve packs will be meeting on this ground. Some of them counted as friends, some simply allies, others as neutral or maybe even a threat. A few members from each pack will be on our grounds, too, to protect their Alphas if needed. Again, I have been the head of many plans for today, but as usual I’m left on the outside. After the late events, even more so. Staring at the hummingbird, I try to make sense out of this. Is this the sign from the note?How can the door simply open and the guards not react because of a hummingbird?I try to see if my wolf feels alerted, but she still stays silent.It keeps on flying back and forth. Circling my room, coming towards me, and then flying out of the door, just to return seconds later, repeating it’s actions. “A spell?” I burst out. This is the second time someone has told me that I’ve been under a spell. But both of them are in a very different way.“I don’t know exactly how they did it. I guess it was easier to cast a spell on you as your powers haven’t awakened yet. But either way, it was an extremely strong spell, one that could disconnect you from me and make you believe you were mated to Drake. But it only worked on you, not on me. Whatever the reason was for them to bind you to him, they didn’t want me to get in between. They did everything to keep me away from you.” His eyes fill with sadness. There is a huge open space between the rear side of the packhouse and the woods. The late sun is still bright enough to lighten up the entire place. No house, no trees, nothing as protection to hide behind. Just open fields filled with beautiful wild flowers and knee-high grass. It is a beautiful sight but the worst thing imaginable for our current situation. “Let me down,” I yell at Jax, feeling panic rising, my heartbeat increasing by the second. But he keeps running in the direction of the woods, totally ignoring my request. Only moments later, another wolf appears at our side, one I don’t recognise. It’s a fairly tall wolf with dark brown fur. There’s no escaping from Drake, I think to myself, filled with bitterness. More wolves will be here any moment, and I prepare myself for the wolf to attack Jax, but it doesn’t. Instead, it falls into pace with Jax, running only about five feet next to us, heading direction woods.“I told you to keep them distracted,” Jax scolds angrily. “D

“Luna, run," echoes in my head again, but I wouldn’t even know how or where.Even with his wounded shoulder and Drake right behind us, Jax keeps on running deeper and deeper into the woods with me on his arms. He elegantly dodges several attempts of wolves coming at us.Drake seems to be sending his warriors in first line instead of attacking himself. I’m surprised how easily Jax seems to be able to deal with them even in his human form. That’s until he comes to a sudden halt. I feel him tense up, his arms wrapping tighter around me again.Looking around, I see many different eyes, from all directions staring at us. My wolf growls inwardly. There’s no way out, I knew it the moment we left. The warriors from the borders have now joined to come in this direction, adding up to the rest of the pack. The taste of mud fills my mouth. I’m coughing from aspirating mud, and whatever else is lying on the ground. It’s cold and damp, but my entire body feels like it’s burning up. My heart is racing so bad I can hear the thumbing in my ears. My mind seems fuzzy, and I try to make out my surroundings, but my vision still seems blurry. I try to grip on to something in front of me to get myself up, a tree or something like it, I can’t exactly tell. The pain is ripping through my entire body, but I know I can’t stay here. Trying to push myself up further only results in me slipping on wet leaves on the ground, banging my head against something. Again, I find myself crashing down. Pain and burning intensifying by the moment, I try to breathe through it.But no matter how hard I try, my vision keeps on blurring up or going black, and my body is unable to move.
