Ian sighed as he silenced his mother’s incoming call for the third time while he stood around with his group of friends at a party hosted by his friend’s older sister, Roselyn.
Ian Reign, future pack leader and grandson of Alpha Marcus Reign, a respectable but secluded pack outside Hilton City, was forced to visit after his not-so-likeable father’s lung disease got worse, and according to his mom, he might never recover. Ian had only seen his father a few times because of his nature; after all, he was born a werewolf, and his father was a human who didn’t exactly understand how their world worked. At least that’s what his grandfather told him about his father. It wasn’t until recently that Ian found out the real reason behind his parents leaving him with his grandfather in the pack while they lived together in the city, and for the first time, his father wanted him to visit for Christmas. Ian wondered why he suddenly wanted to spend Christmas together after abandoning him for 22 years, and when he shows up in the pack to see him, he only ever stays a couple of days at most. Ian arrived in Hilton, lodged at a hotel, and contacted Derick, his best friend he met in college. They were both sophomores at the same college, studying Architecture, and Derick grew up in Hilton but only visited home during Christmas, and since he already promised he would contact him once he visited, he just had to tell him, though he didn’t know he would drag him to his older sister's birthday party on his first day in town. “Are you going to pick that or what?” Derick asked as his mom called again. “I know what she’s gonna say; it’s just better if I don’t.” Ian frowned but accidentally picked up the call right as he was about to return the phone to his pocket. “Shit!” He mumbled before eventually excusing himself from his group to pick up his call. The background music wasn’t exactly loud enough to disturb his calls, but he’d rather not let his mother guess where he was. “Ian! What on earth are you doing? Why do you keep ignoring my calls, and what do you mean by you’re staying at a hotel when you have a perfectly good home to stay in?” Eloise half-screamed over the phone, and Ian sighed. He was about to come up with an excuse when a lady walked past him with a strong floral scent that had his wolf jumping excitedly in his head. Ian could smell the sweet scent of jasmine on her, even though the perfume she was wearing was chocolate of some kind, but her natural jasmine scent overpowered her perfume, and as she strode straight and elegantly into the courtyard after letting the attendants help her off her expensive fur coat that covered her armless body-hug dress, Ian almost lost control of his wolf. “It’s our mate,” Storm growled at him, and Ian let out an exasperated sigh. “Relax, Storm… I know…she’s ours.” Ian agreed with his wolf, who was ready to take control and hold the lady back. “Mom…I’m going to call you back— “Ian!” Eloise fumed. “It’s important; I think I might have found my mate.” With that, Ian dropped his call and hurried after the woman as she walked into the courtyard after dropping her gift. Ian returned to his friends, who were mainly his classmates who lived in Hilton that Derick also invited over and a couple of Derick's childhood friends he wasn’t familiar with. “Ian!” Derick’s loud call had Ian’s attention turning right back at Derick. “What?” Ian blinked in surprise, wondering why he was calling him so loudly when he was practically right next to him. “You’re like a million miles away. You okay, bro? I asked if you’ve finally talked to your mom. She’s not asking you to leave yet, is she? ‘Cause this party isn’t ending until morning,” Derick told him while playfully smacking him. “Yeah, yeah... we talked. Who’s that though?” Ian had to ask, as he couldn’t keep his eyes off the lady who was now talking to another lady whom Derick introduced to him as his sister. “Oh, that’s Avery Archer. She’s my sister’s best friend. They’ve literally been together since they were in diapers; not sure how she did it since Avery, well… she’s a little scary; even when I was younger, I literally used to run away from her. But hold on a minute.” Derick stopped, tracing Ian’s persistent gaze. “Why are you suddenly interested in her? Please don’t tell me she caught your eye or something, because there are tonnes of other girls you can possibly pick from at this party. I mean, look at those three over here.” Derick tried to divert his attention, but Ian’s mind was too concentrated on Avery. “I’m going to go talk to her,” Ian decided out of nowhere, as he’d been eavesdropping on Avery’s conversation with Rosie, and he just felt it was the right time to approach Avery. “What? No…Ian… no, don’t do it.” Derick tried to stop him, but Ian was quite determined, walking across the courtyard to meet Avery, who was a little too invested in her drinks. Ian watched as Rosie immediately stood when he got closer, giving them some space as if on cue. Ian gulped as he reached for her shoulder when her overwhelming scent clouded his senses, and though he could feel his body heating up from the scent alone, touching her brought a feeling so intense his wolf seized control for a second. His alpha wolf has always been stronger than him, stubborn and annoying as hell, but he’s never been so restless. With a single touch, Storm’s emotion rushed at him like a whirling tornado; he was full of excitement, anxiety, and desire all in one… he wanted to claim her. “Mate” His lips moved without his control, which took a minute to regain. Then Avery finally turned with a gaze so icy, it made him freeze, or maybe it was just her incredible voice. -----------Kaden had no idea. moving from the pack would be so exhausting nor did he have any idea that getting used to school again would be so frustrating and, worst of all, he wasn’t expecting how infuriating his alpha and stagnant love life would be.Maybe he wasn’t expecting everything to just all be apples and roses but he at least wanted to have a fun life.Ian was slowly drowning in his loneliness, engulfed by depression that comes from being separated from his mate. Not only was his aggressiveness growing by the day, but his dark circles had grown enough to hide his hollow, empty eyes but that wasn’t as surprising as him springing up some shocking news on him.‘I plan to get kidnapped.’He should have suspected he wanted to discuss something completely insane when he decided to carpool with him that day and not with Derrick, who he usually drives with, whether in his car or Derrick’s.“You’re insane!” It was a rude thing to say to your alpha, but he was driving Kaden absolutely crazy.
Avery was staring blankly at the ceiling of her room again, a new routine of hers these days. It’s been a few weeks since she left Hilton and the heavy doubt she carried with her had long since faded.Avery struggled with her doubts and hesitation with her decision, which she thought was impulsive after her rage for Arden settled and while her choice could have filled her with regrets, she didn’t regret the choices she made. Not after her eyes fell on an extra line on the pregnancy test kit she used after three weeks without her period. It didn’t make any sense at all and that threw her into a panic frenzy, wondering how it happened and how she could possibly handle the little ball of life forming inside her.She was sure they were careful enough. While battling with anxiety over her decisions, Avery wondered what would be the best action for the child.Terminating the pregnancy was also an option; after all, Ian was still her brother by record, and worse, he was a boy that’s barely s
Ian left the precinct with Eloise, although she was still being investigated; they couldn’t exactly detain her with so little evidence against her.The awkward silence during their drive away from the precinct was deafening and probably more uncomfortable than the interrogation room.“Don’t take me home. I’m staying at the hotel for now,” Eloise informed Ian as he approached an intersection. Though Eloise went on to describe the hotel she was staying at, which was part of the chain of hotels Avery used to manage, Ian remained quiet.“Aren’t you going to ask why I’m staying at the hotel instead of being home? Does it really not matter to you at all? Do you really not care what happens to me at all?” Eloise asked in a teary tone, but Ian remained quiet and continued to drive her until they arrived at the hotel.“Okay, fine. I’m sorry. I get it; you’re mad at me about what I did—”“No, mom, you don’t get it. Avery is my mate; she meant a lot more to me than dad ever meant to you. You ne
Eloise felt her life taking a turn for the worse from the moment she released the announcement about Avery’s engagement.Being unable to confirm or deny it whenever she was asked in an interview was exhausting because while she was desperate to get Avery out of her hair, she hated that she might lead Ian into doing something terrible.Ian could have really stayed true to his threat and killed the guy; he almost murdered someone in front of her for trying to subdue him with wolfsbane after all. What’s to say he really won’t kill Vince if he ever saw him together with Avery? But no matter how much she tried, she just couldn’t get the rest of the company to listen to her anymore. She felt completely alone and miserable. Meetings are now being held behind her, and deals are made without her consent; once again, she was nothing more than a pretty figurehead.Eloise felt really stupid thinking she ever had any real power in the first place. All the people she thought were on her side insta
“Are you really moving, Ian? Listen to me… I said I’m sorry.” Ian watched his mother try her hardest to stop him as he grabbed his packed boxes and set out of the house. He was forced to stop after Eloise kept dragging on his knitted sweater.“Well, I have to go…before you end up plunging a silver dagger in my chest while I’m asleep,” Ian said as he slowly grabbed her hand and freed himself from her firm grip.“You know I’ll never do that,” Eloise said in a tone that felt the same as her saying ‘that’s totally absurd’.“No mother feeds their kid wolfsbane, Mom. How can I be sure you won’t kill me? Besides, I’m not sure how much longer I can hold Storm back from losing control around you.” He paused and with a pained voice, he said, “Avery has never looked at me like that before.” Ian’s eyes turned Crimson.“Because of you, she won’t pick up my calls; she won’t talk to me… if I stay here any longer, I’m not sure what I’ll do.” Ian said through clenched jaws while Eloise took a step ba
Avery woke up to Lewis's persistent call. Ian was gone, and judging from how cold his side of the bed was, she could tell it had been a while. What was left with his lingering scent was a bitter taste of the loneliness that follows. Avery wished he could be around more; she wished they were a normal couple.Dropping by each other’s place when they miss each other, openly going out on dates and holding hands in public without giving a damn what anybody thinks.Maybe Rosie was right; she is a bit clingy when it comes to love. She's getting greedy and wonders if her greed this time will shatter them like it did every other relationship she’s had.“What is it, Lewis?” Avery asked as she rose up from them and walked over to her box to get a change of clothes.“Why are you doing this to me, really? You know I suffer it when you’re not here to bear the full brunt of Eloise’s madness.”In total exasperation, Avery asked, “What did she do now?”“Well, you’re not going to like it this time—”
