When Evangeline awoke, it was not in the sanctum... it was in motion.

She jolted up but then instantly regretted it as a sharp pain stabbed through her ribs like broken glass lodged beneath her skin. Her vision swam in hues of red and gold. The ceiling above her shifted with shadowed arches and golden inscriptions.

The sound of hooves and the smell of smoke and iron made her realize that she was in a carriage.

But not an ordinary one, it was shaped like a miniature cathedral on wheels - walls reinforced with runes that pulsed faintly with her heartbeat. Golden chains crisscrossed the floor, glowing with symbols she instinctively recognized as warding seals.

She would have voiced this out but of course she wasn’t alone.

The quads were also in the carriage, but she was in Xander's arms, with Lucien on his other side. Cassius and Selene sat across from her, arms crossed, face as still and sharp as a blade unsheathed.

“You’re awake,” Selene said coolly, as if she hadn’t just watched her b

The halls of the Supernatural Enforcement Bureau trembled beneath Elias Vaughn’s boots. He was a storm given human form - or at least what passed for human these days. His long black overcoat flared with each step like a battle banner in the wind, and overhead, the fluorescent lights flickered violently, as though the building itself feared him. Every creature in his path - vampires, witches, seers, fae, even the humans in crisp bureaucratic uniforms - stepped aside without hesitation. A serpent-shifter practically leapt to the wall, eyes wide in horror, but no one dared meet his gaze. His jaw was clenched so tightly that a thick vein throbbed visibly along his temple. Crimson sparks crackled around his right hand, restrained power simmering just beneath the skin, waiting - begging - for an excuse to be unleashed. The double doors of his office shattered open with a boom that echoed down the corridor like the toll of judgment.“Do you call that an ambush?” he roared, his voice a roa

The first sign wasn’t the scream. It was the fire.It bloomed across the perimeter like a living wound - blue, not red, and cold enough to burn. The runes carved into the boundary stones exploded, each one erupting in a flare of light before crumbling to ash. Then came the shriek. It wasn’t human, it wasn’t animal, it was ancient.A sound dragged from some throatless mouth that had never learned language, just hate.Evangeline stumbled backward as the forest itself seemed to convulse. Trees bent unnaturally, screaming as their vein-like branches withered and snapped. The sky tore open like parchment, and from the rift above, they descended.Figures of shadow, some shaped like men, others like beasts twisted beyond comprehension. Each one a fragment of the Hollow’s will. Their bodies hissed and smoked as they moved, burning the ground with every step.“INCOMING!” Xander bellowed. His sword ignited mid-air, gleaming with runes that pulsed with a light Evangeline didn’t recognize not jus

The scream tore from Evangeline’s throat like a jagged storm ripping through silence - raw, soul-deep, and ancient. But to her surprise, it wasn’t just her voice, the lake screamed too.Its surface rippled violently, glowing from within like a molten eye yawning open. The air pulsed with something too primal to name as wind spiraled upward from the water, carrying whispers in languages older than time itself."She is opening...""The lock breathes again...""The Key has awakened..."Evangeline fell backward, gasping, clawing at the ground. Her fingers dug into the stone floor, nails splitting, but she barely felt the pain. It was drowned by the roar inside her skull as visions slammed into her.Chains. A silver gate screaming as it splintered. A shadow in the form of a man—its hands soaked in golden ichor. And at the center of it all was her... standing at the mouth of an abyss, holding a blade carved from her own rib.She saw herself from outside herself, standing tall, crowned, a

For a long time, Evangeline just… breathed like she was relearning how to be human again after drinking the glowing liquid in the bowl Selene had given her.But was she still human? The question coiled inside her like a serpent, slithering beneath her skin, waiting for an answer no one dared to give her.Xander’s parting words hung in the air like smoke“You are the goddess they tried to erase.”What did that even mean? She wasn’t a goddess, she was just a surgeon. A woman who spent her days fighting death, not wielding it. She had a cat named Pumpkin, a favorite café where the barista spelled her name wrong every damn times she still hadn’t finished her taxes... goddesses didn’t need to worry about taxes, right? But gods didn’t bleed, either, and she’d bled... a lot.Her fingers drifted to the bandages at her side. The pain was there - but so was something else, like a hum or a pulse. As though something ancient had been stitched beneath her skin, and now, it stirred.“Drink, again!”

Darkness swam in her skull, as Evangeline struggled to regain consciousness. This wasn't the usual comforting, velvety kind of darkness that lulled children to sleep, this one crackled like lightning trapped inside her bones. She then woke up burning, not from fever, but from something deeper, clawing its way up her spine like fire running through her blood. Her limbs still refused to move, and even when her eyelids fluttered, her eyes wouldn’t open.Everything inside her screamed in pain; It was as if she was falling inward - drowning in pain and memory. Somewhere in the haze, voices whispered, like wind through dying leaves.“…she bleeds silver…”“…the bond has started…”“…her blood remembers…”“…we should’ve waited…”“…too late now. The Veil already knows…”She didn’t recognize the voices, but it was her soul that did, as those voices began stir something inside her that had been locked away a long time.Suddenly, the pain struck sharper than before, earning a grunt from her. A hot
