I pictured myself after he was done with me. I'd be torn open from the stomach. Intestine hanging out and lazing around when they should be in my body, trying to keep me alive.

My heart would probably be lying around somewhere as he searches my body like a man looking for his room keys in a hotel room.

He approached me, twirling the knife like a pro. As if that should give me any reassurance of his skills. As if that would promise I'd be alive at the end of it.

Loretta hurled curses at him, struggling against her cuffs, but he didn't stop. He had one goal in mind, to rip out some kind of power hiding inside me.

At least Cyrus was safe at home. I just couldn't guarantee I'd ever lay eyes on him again. I'd be breaking my promise to my mom to return in one piece. What would the story be? They wouldn't be able to present my dead body.

That would only mean a ferocious beast was terrorizing the town.

    CROSSI groaned, slowly coming to. My head banged, but not as much as the rest of my whole body. It felt like I crashed on a hard surface-I gasped awake, eyes snapping open as everything rushed back to me. I jerked up, but the restriction on my wrists held me back. My arms were spread wide, thick black smoke laced around my wrist in bondage, connected to thin air."Shit!" I recognized that smoke anywhere. I couldn't forget it even when I tried.I tried pulling hard at it, drawing my knees up for support as I gave it my hardest shove but it was like pulling against a bull. My strength was useless."Ugh!
