Nyxar POV

Nyxar stepped into the council chamber - and stopped.

It wasn’t the scent that gave it away, though it lingered - power, sharp and clean, like silver carved into the air. Nor was it the hush, though silence had a weight here, as if the stone walls themselves were holding their breath.

No. It was the way they looked at her.

All of them - warriors and witches, elders and envoys - every gaze fixed on one figure standing at the center of the chamber. No one spoke. No one even dared to shift.

Lyra.

But not as she had been.

She stood calm amidst the rising storm of whispers, her presence reshaping the very nature of the room. She wore twilight on her skin - an indigo robe threaded with silver light that pulsed like breath. Her hair, once the deep shade of shadows, now shimmered like moonlight, cascading around her shoulders in luminous waves. Her eyes... stars drowned in mercury.

She wasn’t just Lyra.

She was Queen.

Nyxar felt the change like a tremor in the marrow of his bones.

Nyxar’s POV He didn’t need to be invited.Nyxar slipped through the castle’s underbelly like a whisper in a crypt, unseen and unbothered by the wards woven into the stone. Magic of this realm obeyed its makers. But Nyxar… he was from before such rules were written. The council chamber stood beyond the long corridor of mirrored columns and wolf-carved sconces, its entrance barred not by guards, but by layered enchantments meant to deter spying. Still, he found the gap in their defenses - there was always a seam. Always a weakness. He breathed into it, stepped into the walls themselves, and became shadow. He didn’t emerge into the room. Not yet.Instead, he listened. The voices inside were lower than the fire’s crackle, heavy with unease.“She’s changed,” came Lord Marius’s voice, sharp as brittle glass. “Did you see her eyes? Silver. That’s not our Queen - it’s something else.”“She walks like herself, speaks like herself… but she’s not the same,” said another. A younger councilman, L

Lyra POV The wind had quieted in the rooftop garden, leaving only the rustling of silverleaf trees and the low hum of distant torches burning below. The moon hung high - full and pale, casting Lyra in a glow that shimmered across the threads of her hair. Silver now. As if moonlight had made her its own.She stood near the edge, hands resting on the stone ledge, watching the stars with a distant look in her eyes. Kane was behind her, silent, watching the curve of her shoulders tense ever so slightly.“You’re not really here,” he said quietly.Lyra blinked. “What?”“Not fully. I can feel when your mind drifts somewhere else.” He stepped closer. “You’ve been quiet since the council meeting.”She didn’t turn right away. “They’re afraid of me.”“They’re fools.”“They’re not wrong,” she whispered. “I’m not who I was. Not entirely.”“You’re still you. Stronger, wiser… maybe a little scarier,” he added with a crooked smirk, trying to ease the weight on her spine. She smiled faintly. “Scary i

The passage was colder than she expected. It breathed beneath the castle like a living thing - its walls carved not by human or lycan hands, but by something older. More deliberate. The torch Nyxar had summoned cast a flickering, golden light, licking over ancient stone and faded carvings that had long since lost their names. Runes etched into the walls pulsed faintly with residual magic, their glow responding to her presence.Lyra walked carefully beside Kane, her fingers brushing the damp, uneven walls now and then for balance. She could feel it - something changing beneath her skin. Her silver hair clung to her temples, damp from the cold air, and her silvery eyes adjusted to the dark better than they ever had before. But it wasn’t just her sight that had sharpened. It was her soul. The First Queen was gone now, merged with her - completely. She was no longer two. No longer guided by visions or memories or whispered dreams. It was both grounding and terrifying. She had become some

Lyra POVThe passage seemed longer on the way back. The air, though just as cold, now carried a weight that pressed against Lyra’s shoulders. She walked in silence between Nyxar and Kane, the image of that monstrous black door - rune-carved, chained, humming with barely restrained power - etched into her mind like a brand.Ekrath.Even the name haunted her, echoing like a drumbeat in her chest. She felt it watching her still, despite the layers of stone and magic that now separated them. Waiting. Listening. Remembering the scent of the First Queen within her.The corridors felt narrower than before. The shadows longer. Even Kane’s warmth beside her didn’t chase off the chill clinging to her skin. He reached for her hand, entwining their fingers without a word. His grip was firm - comforting - but beneath the calm exterior, she could feel his pulse racing. He was as rattled as she was.Only Nyxar moved like nothing had changed.Silent. Composed. But every now and then, Lyra caught the

Lyra’s POVThe corridor was long behind them now, swallowed by the cold stone walls of the ancient passageway. After Nyxar's warnings and the unsettling energy that still buzzed beneath her skin, Lyra had returned to their quarters with Kane, her thoughts a storm of questions and instincts she could barely contain. Now, wrapped in the soft embrace of their bed, the room dimly lit by the moonlight filtering through gauzy curtains, she lay beside him, tangled in a quiet stillness.Kane’s arm draped around her waist, his thumb brushing lazy circles along her hipbone as if grounding her to the present. But Lyra’s mind wandered - back to the runes, the sealed door, and the low thrumming that echoed beneath the castle floors like a warning or a heartbeat."You're quiet," Kane murmured beside her. His voice was low, still slightly rough from sleep, but it held a softness only she ever heard. "Too quiet. That usually means you're thinking something dangerous."Lyra let out a breath. Not quite

Nyxar’s POVThe council chamber emptied in slow, uncertain waves. Some left in silence, their faces unreadable. Others lingered in hushed groups, murmuring behind hands and cloaks, their whispered fears curling through the air like smoke. Nyxar didn’t need to hear them to know what they were saying. She’s changed. She’s unnatural. She cannot be trusted. His lips curled in the barest sneer as he leaned against a shadowed pillar, arms crossed. Fools. Cowards. They sat in their high seats and clung to their old ways, blind to the tides shifting beneath their feet. Did they truly believe the Harbinger would spare them if they turned against Lyra now? Did they think they had another choice? He watched them scatter like frightened birds, saw the doubt etched into the lines of their faces, the hesitance in their step.Weakness.This was the rot that always seeped into kingdoms before they fell - the hesitation to do what was necessary, the fear of the unknown outweighing the threat already a

Lyra’s POVThe air in the chamber was thick with something unseen, something pressing. Lyra exhaled slowly, trying to shake the restless energy curling through her veins. Across from her, Nyxar stilled, his dark eyes narrowing as if he, too, had felt it.It wasn’t just unease. It was something else - something shifting beneath the surface of reality.A slow, pulsing force.Ancient. Wrong.Lyra’s fingers twitched at her sides. She turned to Nyxar, meeting his gaze. “You feel it too.”Nyxar didn’t answer immediately. He tilted his head slightly, as if listening to something just beyond the reach of mortal hearing. Then, quietly, “Yes.”Her pulse quickened. “What is it?”For a moment, he didn’t respond. Then, with measured slowness, he turned toward the archway leading to the terrace. “Come.”Lyra followed, her steps brisk but silent as they moved through the halls. The further they walked, the heavier the air became, charged with something unnatural. It wasn’t just her imagination - eve

Lyra POV The air in the corridor felt thick, pressing against Lyra as she ran. Her feet barely made a sound on the stone floors, but her mind was roaring, the heavy weight of what she had just witnessed haunting every step. The shadows above the city - something had shifted. The magic in the air had twisted, turned darker, and for the first time, she had felt the very essence of fear curling around her bones.Lyra didn’t stop to question the urgency in her movements. She only had one thought - Kane. She needed to find him, needed to feel his strength, his calm presence to steady the growing panic inside her.As she reached the door to their quarters, her breath hitched. Her hand was shaking as she pressed it to the handle, pushing the door open just enough to slip inside. Nyxar POVThe wind whispered through the crumbling bones of the temple, stirring dust and leaves like forgotten prayers. Shadows clung to the corners of the broken sanctuary, quiet and still, as if holding their breath.Nyxar sat on the edge of the old altar, elbows resting on his knees, eyes cast toward the open ceiling where a single shaft of sunlight pierced through the cracked stone above. Lyra was nearby - silent, present. She didn’t fill the space with questions or noise. She simply was. Her stillness steadied him more than she likely realized. He drew a breath, deep and grounding. The scent of old stone, ash, and moss filled his lungs. This place had once been sacred. Once, his kind had come here to speak to the Moon. To pray. To transform. The divine had moved in these walls. Now it was dust and ruin.Like him.He tilted his head back, eyes slipping closed. The mark along his forearm - once the seal of his divinity - was dull now. No longer a flare of power. No longer a curse

Lyra didn’t speak. She stepped quietly to the side and settled onto a patch of moss, legs folded beneath her, spine straight as a sentinel. The moonlight slid in through the broken rafters above, painting her hair in silver. Her presence was steady - not pressing, not retreating. Just there. His hand traced the worn runes, fingers slipping over grooves long eroded by wind and time.“This is where I fell,” he said after a while, voice low. “Not in battle. Not before a blade. Here. In the temple.”Lyra looked toward him, but said nothing. She didn’t need to.“I was given a choice.” His gaze fixed on the stones. “To let them die… or to fall. Become immortal. To give up the throne. My power. My life. My mortality. Everything.”His jaw tightened. “I didn’t hesitate. Not for one breath. I gave it all for them. For the ones who cried out in my name.”“And

Nyxar POV The corridor felt quieter than it had ever been. As if the walls themselves held their breath, watching the once-immortal god relearn the rhythm of mortality. Nyxar leaned slightly against Lyra as they moved - her arm steady beneath his, her touch warm and sure.He paused beside one of the archways, exhaling slow. The torchlight flickered over his face, casting golden highlights into the dark growth of stubble along his jaw.“I need to see it,” he murmured. “The old sanctuary. The ruins.”Lyra turned her face toward him, brows lifting. “Now?”Nyxar’s gaze was distant, tethered to memory and something deeper - pulling at him like the moon pulled at tides. • Lyra, His Second Chance Mate   Chapter 117 : Ashes and Embers

Nyxar’s POVThere was no pain at first. No sound. No color. Only the hollow thrum of memory drifting through a void where even time dared not exist. Here, in this formless silence, everything Nyxar had been - god, warrior, monster - unraveled. His name echoed once, a ghost of thunder across a dark sea. Then it dissolved. Nyxar. Once a name that cracked mountains and bled stars. Now, meaningless. The world beyond had vanished. Only the impression of a face lingered, etched into the dying light of his thoughts. Lyra. Her warmth, her tears, the feel of her hand in his - real in a way nothing else had been in centuries. He’d given everything to protect her. To save her.He thought it had been the end. But something remained. A flicker. An ember buried beneath the ash.He reached for it - not with hands, but with the fragile echo of thought. There was no body here. No form. Just awareness stretched thin like dying flame. The divine part of him - once radiant and vengeful - was crumbling.

Lyra POV Ekreth was gone again. For a long moment, she simply sat there, the weight of the world pressing down on her shoulders. Duty waited outside that door. An entire kingdom will look to her now - broken, battered, but victorious. They had won the war. The Harbinger was gone. The seal was locked and nothing should get through to this world. And Kane… Kane was gone too.The thought carved another raw wound through her heart. She pressed a trembling hand against her chest, as if she could hold the pieces of herself together a little longer. She was Queen. There was no one else. She can't hide here. The heavy cloak of authority settled around her shoulders. She did not look at Nyxar. She couldn’t. Not yet.A soft knock stirred the heavy silence.Lyra blinked slowly, pulling herself out of the half-daze she'd sunk into. Her fingers still curled around Nyxar’s, reluctant to let go. She didn’t want to move. Didn’t want to face whatever waited beyond this quiet, broken moment.Th

  • Lyra, His Second Chance Mate   Chapter 115 : The Weight of Staying

Lyra POV The door clicked softly shut behind Ekreth, leaving her alone with Nyxar and the sound of her own heartbeat. For a long time, she didn't move. She sat there, hands folded on her lap, staring at the slow, steady rise and fall of his chest beneath the blanket. Each breath was a fragile miracle. A proof that he still lived - that he hadn't slipped away entirely into whatever place gods went when they died."You stayed", Thalia murmured inside her, voice warm and thick with emotion."I had to."Lyra answered numbly."No, Lyra. You chose to."Lyra's chest ached at the words. She hadn't thought about it. Not really. When Nyxar’s light began to break apart, when the world had turned inside out - she had moved without hesitation. Without calculation. As if something inside her had already decided long before she knew it herself. But that didn't mean she understood it. Or that she wanted to.A heavy silence filled her mind."He matters to you", Thalia said softly, without accusation.

  • Lyra, His Second Chance Mate   Chapter 114 : Dust and Gold

Lyra POV The silence that followed didn’t feel like peace. It felt like the world had forgotten how to breathe.Stone dust hung in the air like smoke, fine and pale, drifting slowly down in spirals from the vaulted ceiling above. Runes that had once blazed with ancient light were now dark and broken, their power spent. Cracks split the floor like veins across a dead heart. And at the center of it all, Lyra sat on her knees in the ruins of the seal - her hands tangled in Nyxar’s coat, her breath coming in ragged, uneven pulls. He was warm. That was the only thing she could hold onto.He was warm. His chest rose and fell beneath her fingers, slow but steady. His body, usually tense with power, now felt strangely soft in her arms - boneless, weighty. And his face…His face looked peaceful. Not serene. Not untouched. There were shadows under his eyes, ash on his skin, and gold still faintly glowing at the corners of his mouth. But there was no pain now. No fight left in him.Just… peace

Nyxar POVThe earth still quaked when the light began to fade. Not with the blinding fury of battle, nor with the blood-red chaos of war - but with something quieter. Heavier. Like the echo of a heartbeat after it stops.A sacred breath held too long… finally exhaled.Nyxar stood at the heart of the chamber beneath the castle - boots braced against fractured stone, the runes beneath his feet flickering like dying stars. The seal pulsed in front of him, threads of gold and shadow unraveling into the dark like veins torn open.Ekreth stood beside him, tall and monstrous in his truest form - wrought of shadow and old bone, his wings hunched tight against the low ceiling, scraping stone as they twitched. The air thrummed with old power. The kind that didn’t belong to the world above.Nyxar didn’t flinch. And before them in one moment the gate was gone. No fire. No rupture. No tearing in the fabric of the world. Just… closed. Lyra POV - Dawn The sky held no warmth when morning came.It broke over the horizon like a blade - pale and cold, slicing through the hush that had settled over the city. No birds sang. No bells rang. Even the wind seemed to hold its breath.Lyra stood alone in the highest tower, watching the first light seep into the edges of the world. The city still slept below, curled into itself like a creature trying to heal. She could see the rooftops where ivy climbed, the market square where sweetbread had been shared, the fountains where pups had splashed. All the places that had made her heart ache the night before. Her eyes were dry now. Her chest hollowed and quiet, the way it always felt after grief had burned itself down to embers. The shirt she’d held all night was gone. Folded. Left behind. Like a prayer she couldn’t take with her.She wasn’t bringing Kane into this. This was hers to carry. This was her moment to end what First Queen couldn't. Gave up what gods turn her into. The rit
