 Luna POV

"Sable." Kian's voice snaps through the courtyard, sharp with warning. "Not here."

The young woman Sable presses a hand over her mouth like she's trying to shove the words back inside. Her eyes stay locked on mine, wide, glassy, searching my face for something she's clearly terrified to find.

"My mother told me you disappeared," she whispers. "She said the elders made sure of it. She said your name wasn't allowed to be spoken anymore."

"Sable." Kian moves between us, voice low and urgent. "Whatever you think you know, you say nothing. Not to Cassia. Not to anyone. Do you understand?"

Sable's gaze flicks between us, and something in her expression shifts from shock into calculation, fast enough that I catch it even through my own rising panic. She's not just surprised. She knows something else, something bigger than my name.

"Your mother knew who I was?" I ask, before Kian can stop me. "Why would that matter to her?"

Sable's mouth opens, then closes. "I can't. Not here. Not where anyone could hear."

She's gone before either of us can press further, disappearing down the corridor at a near-run, leaving me standing in the wreckage of a secret I didn't even know I was carrying.

Kian turns back to me, and whatever careful control he was holding onto a moment ago has cracked completely.

"That's twice tonight someone's looked at you like you're a ghost," he says. "I need you to tell me the truth. All of it. Right now, before Cassia gets to that council chamber first."

I close my eyes. Five years of careful distance, and it's unraveling in a single night, faster than I can hold the pieces together.

"There isn't time," I say instead. "If Cassia already suspects who I am, walking into that chamber blind gets us both killed politically before we've even started. I need to know what I'm walking into."

"Then walk with me." He starts toward the pack house, and I fall into step beside him because I don't have a better option left. "Five years ago," he says, voice dropping into something rawer than I've heard from him yet, "I rejected my fated mate in front of the entire pack. I was seventeen. The elders told me a bond formed that young couldn't be trusted, that I needed to become Alpha before I tied myself to anyone. I believed them."

My chest goes tight and cold at once.

"I've hated myself every day since," he continues, not looking at me, like it's easier to say to the air between us than to my face. "I searched for her afterward. Petitioned three neighboring packs. chased rumors of a silver-eyed omega working border patrols for almost two years before every lead went cold."

"Maybe she didn't want to be found," I say, and my voice comes out rougher than I intended.

"Maybe not." He finally looks at me, and something in his eyes makes my breath catch. "But I want you to know that. Before whatever happens in that chamber tonight. I looked for her. I never stopped looking, even after I told myself it was hopeless."

We reach the pack house doors, and he stops just short of them, turning to face me fully.

"Cassia's about to accuse you of something," he says. "I don't know exactly what yet. But whatever she says, I need you to trust that I'm not going to let her use you as a scapegoat for whatever she's actually hiding."

"You don't even know me," I say quietly.

Something shifts in his expression, something that looks almost like pain.

"I think I might," he says. "I think some part of me has known since the second you walked through my door."

Before I can answer, the doors swing open ahead of us, and Elder Cassia stands in the entryway, flanked by two council elders, her expression carved from satisfaction so sharp it could cut.

"Alpha," she says, voice honeyed with false concern. "So glad you could join us. It seems our guest has been keeping quite a significant secret."

She turns to me, and for the first time since I arrived, she smiles fully.

"Sorensen," she says, letting the name sit heavy in the air between us. "That's an old Blackthorn bloodline. One I don't believe Ashwood has any legitimate claim to."

My stomach drops through the floor.

"Care to explain," she continues, "exactly how an Ashwood liaison came to carry a name that vanished from this pack's records the same year our yo

  • MARKED BY MOON    The Child's Future

Luna POV Our quarters feel different tonight: quieter, softer, the first real privacy we've had since before the battle consumed every waking hour.Kian sits beside me on the edge of our bed, his hand resting gently against my rounded stomach, waiting with the kind of patient attention he's shown me more and more since choosing to fully commit to this partnership between us."She's active tonight," I say, feeling a small, insistent movement beneath his palm."She knows her parents are finally sitting still long enough to notice." His voice carries warmth I haven't heard nearly enough of throughout recent devastating weeks. We sit together in comfortable silence, simply feeling our daughter move, present in a way neither of us managed to properly be during the crisis that consumed everything since my return to Blackthorn."What do you want for her?" Kian asks eventually, voice quiet, serious despite the tender moment surrounding the question. "Truly, beyond simple safety?"I consider

  • MARKED BY MOON    Reconstruction Begins

Luna POV The entire pack gathers in the courtyard, more people than I've seen assembled in one place since the night Kian first claimed me publicly.Guards stand alongside civilians, healers alongside elders, everyone quiet, waiting, still processing the weight of everything the past week has demanded from all of us. I stand beside Kian at the center of it all, my hand resting instinctively against my stomach, feeling the small, steady flutter of movement beneath my palm."We survived something that many packs would not have survived," Kian says, his voice carrying easily across the assembled crowd. "We did it because we stayed together, because we held to our values, because we led with justice instead of just strength."He pauses, letting the words settle properly before continuing."Now comes the harder work. Rebuilding."Names are spoken then, twelve of them, each one honored individually — fighters who died defending walls that are still standing because of their sacrifice. I w

  • MARKED BY MOON    The Ashwood Debt

Kian POV The Ashwood delegation arrives precisely at midday, formal colors visible from Blackthorn's walls well before their party actually reaches our gates.I meet them personally, Luna beside me despite her continued recovery, both of us dressed formally for what promises to be significant, permanent negotiation. Maren stands slightly apart, her position now genuinely complicated by dual loyalty this formal alliance discussion will ultimately help properly resolve."Alpha Voss," the lead elder says, dismounting with the practiced ceremony. "Ashwood comes prepared to formalize whatever alliance our recent shared sacrifice has genuinely earned.""Blackthorn welcomes formal partnership," I respond, matching appropriate diplomatic formality despite genuine warmth underlying official proceedings. We convene within the council chamber, maps and formal documents spread across the same table that witnessed countless desperate strategic discussions throughout recent devastating weeks. • MARKED BY MOON    The Trial of the Conspirators

Kian POV Dawn breaks over Blackthorn's great hall, filled beyond capacity for the first formal blood law trial this pack has conducted in generations.I stand at the front alongside Luna, both of us still carrying visible reminders of yesterday's devastating battle, though our wounds have healed enough to properly fulfill this necessary duty. Behind us, Maren sits in her newly formalized ambassadorial position, present specifically to ensure fairness and proper legal procedure throughout these emotionally charged proceedings."We begin," I announce, voice carrying clearly through the packed chamber, "with Elder Marvin's case."Marvin stands before the assembled pack, expression carrying the particular fear of someone who understands judgment approaches regardless of whatever defense he might offer."Witnesses will present evidence," I continue, following proper procedure our ancestors established generations ago specifically to prevent hasty, potentially unjust judgment during emoti

  • MARKED BY MOON    What Luna Inherited

Luna POV The archive chamber feels different without fear coloring every shadow.Kian holds the torch steady as we descend the same passage that nearly cost Sable her life days earlier, though this time our purpose carries different weight entirely. Ephraim is dead. The immediate danger has passed. Now we're simply here to understand, finally, everything this hidden chamber has protected across generations of careful secrecy."It's safe now," Kian says, though his voice carries the same reverent caution anyone might use entering sacred space. "Whatever we find here, we're finally free to actually process it properly."The chamber itself looks different too, no longer threatening but simply ancient, dust-covered shelves and stone walls holding secrets that shaped everything leading toward yesterday's devastating confrontation. Ephraim destroyed much during his earlier desperate visit, but not everything. Scattered remnants remain, waiting patiently for someone to finally uncover thei

  • MARKED BY MOON    What Maren Chooses

Maren Three days after the battle, I can finally walk without Bettina's arm supporting most of my weight. It's a small victory, but I'll take it. I make my way slowly through Blackthorn's corridors, past guards who nod respectfully now instead of watching me with the wary suspicion that marked my first arrival here. Something's shifted, not just in my body's healing, but in how this pack perceives my presence entirely.I find Luna in the small garden behind the pack house, one of the few areas that escaped significant battle damage, sitting quietly with her hand resting against her rounded stomach. She looks up as I approach, exhaustion still evident but something steadier settling into her features than I've seen since arriving."You're supposed to be resting," she says, though she shifts to make room on the bench beside her."I've rested enough. My body's healing. My mind needs something else now." I settle carefully beside her, wincing slightly at the pull across my healing wound
