MasukLight stung my eyes, making me flip them shut immediately I opened them.
I turned, groaning. “Beth, please close the windows!” I did not get a response, not from Beth, not from the windows closing. My head spun, aching, telling me I made a mistake of thinking I couldn’t get drunk because I was heartbroken. “Beth is not here yet?” I muttered, struggling to get out of bed with my eyes closed. “Who is Beth?” A voice said from the far corner of the room. My eyes immediately clicked open, the faint scent of pistachio and mint hanging in the air. I turned swiftly to know who had that voice, because it wasn’t Edward’s, or the doctor, and definitely not anyone I know. And there he was, fresh out of shower in a bathe robe. His face was unfamiliar but he was hella handsome. My eyes lowered in curiosity and fear. “Who are you?” I grabbed the sheets, pulling it up to my chest. “I should be the one asking that.” His came softly and unbothered. Did I have a one night stand? No I couldn’t . But I was drunk! Yesterday’s memory came flooding in, and the last thing I remember was coming into my room. Yes, my room! “What do you mean? This is my room. How long have you been here. What did you do to me?” I stopped, scrambling on the bed to find my phone to call security. “Is this really your room?” His eyebrows were raised, giving me a stare that called me a drunk that doesn’t even know her room. I paused. My brain finally registering the details. It was as if the room was customized for only him. The curtain color were navy blue instead of royal blue like in all the VIP rooms. The furniture were a bit different too. A soothing dull ambience that matched him. My eyes finally settled on him. “What happened?” My voice came a tone lower. “You were drunk and mistook my room as yours.” I pressed my eyes shut in embarrassment. How could I make fun of myself in a hospital. “Why didn’t you tell me it wasn’t ?” I countered. “Did you not just hear me, or are you still drunk? Unfortunately you don’t listen when you’re drunk.” He ran his hand through his damp hair, walking towards me. “Security. Why didn’t you call the hospital security?” He paused. His gaze slightly softened. “It was too much of a hassle, and I’m avoiding attention as it is. And I knew you’d be sober by morning, before the doctor finds out you’re missing.” I still couldn’t get it. Is he a pervert? Did he touch me or something like that? Why did he just leave a total stranger in his room? “I slept on the couch.” He added, as if reading my mind. “But…” “I think you’re sober enough to find your room. The doctors will be going on Ward rounds soon.” “I’m so sorry for causing you trouble.” I bowed slightly. “The hangover medicine on the table is for you.” “Thank you.” He really is an odd one. I saw that his room was the last on the right wing side, and my room is before his own. The VIP rooms were all on the last floor, and thanks to my Father I got a valid membership even after he lost everything. He was always pretty serious about healthcare. Beth was waiting when I came in. She was pacing around, fiddling on her phone. I guess she had been calling seeing how my phone rang. “Where did you go? I was worried.” She held me , assessing my body. “Are you okay?” “I’m okay Beth. I mistakenly slept in the next room.” “What? How did it happen?” “I was a bit drunk, and I found out this morning that he is my friend. Dan.” I had to clear out the part of who has the room, and that was the only thing I could quickly come up with. “Oh…Alice. I shouldn’t have left yesterday.” She hugged me. “Go on and wash up, so you can eat.” I told Beth everything that happened. And from my personal account I paid her. “I will find an apartment to stay for the time being, till I figure out what to do.” “You Shouldn’t have paid me. You should hold any bit of money you have for now until you have a solution.” She brought out her phone to wire the money but I held her back. “Thank you Beth, for everything. I’m starting afresh now, and not paying you would haunt me.” “But this is even more than my pay. I just want to take care of you.” “You do more than your pay Beth. And I’m sorry you had to loose your job like this. Don’t worry, I’ll be fine.” “I’m sorry you’re going through all this. Remember to call me if you’re going through a hard time, and call me when you get your apartment too.” “I will.” I smiled softly. After I was discharged, I went to our house or rather Edward’s house to get my things. And thank goodness it was Sunday, so I didn’t have to wait till he came back in the evening. The plan was simple. Go in, pack and leave. I walked up to the front door, putting in the passcode, but it beeped wrong. That was so quick of him. Then I pressed the doorbell. “Where you trying to break into our house?” Claire appeared in the doorway. I sighed. The divorce has not even been finalized yet and she already moved in with him. “I came to take my things.” I said walking in. Edward was sitting comfortably on the couch like I wasn’t there. They were watching his favorite TV show and the table was littered with pizza, cola cans and chocolates. Claire stood in my way as I made my way to the stairs. “Stay down here. I already packed your stuffs.” “What?” “I had to put my own stuffs in the room, so…” “You could have put it in the guest room till I came.” “Sorry,” she pouted, “I was impatient.” I watched her run up and down the stairs, bringing down my bags. “I still have to make sure everything is here. This is ridiculous.” “Everything is there Alice. I made sure of it.” Edward finally spoke, eyes still on the TV.(ALICE POV).The two long tables in the middle of our meeting room are filled with the two main teams that consisted of professional designers, procurement specialists, and so on… including I...the only intern. We are about to get a briefing about the next contract we'll be taking on.Alex walks in, wearing his designer's gray suit, his hair slick, and a face that shows nothing about his teasey side. His eyes wanders around the table and finally rests on mine briefly, a subtle smile etching on his face.My cheeks burn.“Good day everyone. I'm Mr. Alex, the new director.”Claps.“This will be a very brief meeting to discuss what we'll be doing. Every other detail will be in the next meeting.” He turn to the projected screen, and a slide came up.“We have a contract we need to secure . Our proposed client is Mr. Jade of Minerva homes. Somehow our proposals fell short twice, and we lost the contracts to Noyona.”He gestures and another slide slips in.“Our company is handling the constr
(ALICE POV)I walked into the entrance, and my eyes first met a bunch of people in front of the notice board. It better not be my picture! I took a step towards them and stopped, whatever it is can wait.“Alice, the new director wants to see you.” Julia announced when I walked in.I paused, and walked toward her desk.“The new director?”“You didn’t see the new appointment on the notice board?”“Oh. I didn’t.” How do I tell her I was avoiding human contact because of the scandal? “But why?”“He requested to see the intern in our department.”I nodded. That makes sense, whoever it is must be wondering what an intern is doing in Mayfield Interior design. Or maybe it’s Claire. Claire? Is Claire the newly appointed director?I knocked gently on the door.“Come in,” a male voice said.I finally breathed. It wasn’t Claire. And now that I think of it, I clearly heard Julia say it's a he. but I must have been too shaken up to consider that.My eyes widened when I came in.“Alex?” My eyes danc
(ALEX POV).I watched as Alice stand, doing a little dance of victory. She looked so beautiful. Leo must have let her win, but at least she's in a better mood than when she came back earlier.I cleared my throat, grabbing her attention. “I see you guys are already counting me out.” “She's a genius Alex, be warned.” Leo says.I scoff. “I'll be a challenge for her then.”“Come on man, try your best. You've never won against me, but she already did on her first try.”“Whatchu mean I've never beat you?” “You haven't. Please don't lie in front of your wife.” “I don't have time to argue.” I sit beside Alice. “I have to beat her first.”Leo is a monster. Amongst all our peers, no one ever beat Leo. And even if they did, he always has a crazy comeback for whoever it is.And that is who Alice won. I smiled. She must have felt like a genius for a sec.“Come on, let's play!” I nudged Alice, grabbing the gamepad. She took hers and we played. And I won, but I must say I was very impressed by he
(ALICE POV)My eyes met a pair of dreamy brown eyes and drippy wet hair. I turn away immediately.“You're back early.” Alex says, his wet feet slapping the floor as he still approached me.“Wait!” I stretch my hands behind me. “Cover up.”He laughed. “I'm not naked, wife.”I scoff. He's not naked? Wearing a thin wet underwear that traced the whole of him is the same as being naked.“It's not funny.”I suddenly felt a cold hand grip my outstretched arm, yanking me around. I open my mouth to protest, and sees he already has a towel around his torso. The stranger behind him too.“Were you scared?”“Of what?” I roll my eyes, and he chuckles.“You're back early?”“I clocked out from the site, so….”"You went to a site? Which?""The Moore's apartment complex. I assisted our senior designer."He nodded. My eyes wander towards the blond stranger behind him who is drying his wet curls, with hope that he isn't Alex's romantic partner. “Meet Leo. My cousin.” Alex introduces. Ah! They sure do h
(ALICE'S POV).Nobody looked at mel My eyes darted between the multitudes clamoring to get to their various departments. I stood in my black coat, my straightened hair gently cuddling my shoulders, and a thin frame pair of glasses... a very quick attempt to look a bit different. The coffee area was empty, and no one waved from there to hand me a coffee. I turned and headed towards the elevator."Alice?" Julia called from her desk immediately I stepped in."Morning Julia.""Morning Alice. Claire wants you in her office during lunch break." I nodded.I was being looked at now. Some were stealing glances at me, and whispers passed between desks. Of course, they were the only that knows my face, and knows I was the one that talked that night. Should I say that's one of the perks of being a newbie. I'm pretty sure it would have been worse if my face was known or circulated online, and because of that the gossip is already dead...almost.The only person that has my picture right now is Jor
(ALICE'S POV).I tossed uncomfortably as my phone rang, pulling a pillow to cover my ears. But whoever is calling, sure is persistent. I sat up, picking up the phone and it was Jordan.“Don’t tell me you are still asleep. It’s way past ten.” His background sounded noisy like he was in the market, which only added to my pounding headache.“I told you yesterday was a bad idea.”“It really was. I mean… you had a lot to say about Claire.”“What about her?” I rolled my eyes.“What? Don’t tell me you don’t remember?”“Remember what Jordan. My head is in a total mess right now… I don’t even remember my own name.”“Alice. Your name is Alice. You should go wash your face, and get some hangover medicine.”The last thing I’d be doing this morning is leaving my bed. I feel like being in the bed all day, except the headache won’t let me.“Come on Jordan, can you just tell me?”“I mean I was drunk too, so I only heard part of the many things you said. By the way, her husband was so pissed.”“Edward
(ALICE.) My eyes trailed up the double height ceilings. The glass, the furniture, the aesthetics. One word. Majestic. I quickly tore my eyes down, following Alex to the living room, my eyes doing a quick glance around the floor. I wanted my eyes to linger a bit, because who glances around a fuc
(ALICE) My heels clicked softly on the stairs as I gracefully descend into Alex’s gaze. The silk emerald green dress, the silver heels, the silver jewelries he got me and a sleek designers purse completed my look. “You look beautiful,” he said, extending his hands towards me to help me down.
( ALICE ) I tossed comfortably on the bed, stretching, slowly opening my eyes. I blinked. Once. Twice. The curtains were drawn over the windows, completely blocking the sunlight. That must be why the sunrise didn’t wake me. But something was off. My curtains are usually open. I paused, the scent
(ALICE’S POV) “What was that?” I clicked my door shut, leaning on it for a sec. My hand flew to my face, rushing over to the mirror to see my red face. “I hope he didn’t see that!” “He’s pleading early as my husband? Seriously, did he have to whisper it? He totally caught me off guard.” I m
