Mag-log in(ALICE’S POV)
My hands trembled as I swiped on the phone. It wasn’t only one picture. There were four different occasions and a video too. “Ed….,” I choked, looking steadily at him as tears freely left my eyes. “Clearly, you are a cheater!” Claire clicked her tongue. “That’s not true,” my voice trembled, “Edward you know this is not true.” “Then what is that?” Claire talked again. “Shut up!” I screamed, throwing the phone to the far corner of the room. “Alice, I have no reason to post this unless you drag out our divorce. Just let go of everything and let us be.” “Us?” I muttered loudly, “Did you team up with her to torture me? Edward, how did I end up in bed with a fucking stranger?” My voice came surprisingly calm. “How would I know?” “How did you get these pictures then?” He paused briefly, “The stranger probably sent it to me, I guess he knew I was your husband.” I studied his face and that of Claire. I’ve never felt more stressed in my life, especially when people think I’m dull. “Edward, those pictures were taken directly in that phone.” I took my phone from under the pillow to call the police. This conversation is getting out of hand, and I’m so sick of it. “If you call the police, I’d upload this before they arrive.” He held up his phone. In my years of living with him, I knew he meant it. And his company has the biggest media channel, and damn his connections. The cards are evenly aligned on his side. Posting those pictures will take away every ounce of my dignity, and even if I was lucky enough to win, the damage had been done. There has to be another way. “And besides you don’t have any evidence,” he continued, “Think about it. The video on my phone was sent to me, and you just smashed the phone you believe that took the pictures.” My phone hung midair. I hated it, but this fight won’t be won by me, at least not now. He has the money, position and power to bring me down. He was already ahead of me while I trusted him. It’s literally a blind man and a seeing guide fight. The reality of what I was in hit me like a rock. “Why are you doing this to me?” “People try get anything they want, Alice. Money and power is not an exception.” “So you married me for money.” “It’s a pity your father lost everything, and I just had to cling to the shares he gave you. May he rest in peace,” he shook his head in fake pity, “but I guess he’d be happy up there, since his wife joined him a bit earlier.” I bit my lips in pain. “And I wanted revenge too,” Claire got closer to me, holding my chin up, but I quickly pushed off her hands. “You might have forgotten me, but I never did.” “You two already knew each other before we got married?” my eyes widened. “How could you Edward?” I stood , throwing the lamp on my bed side at him. But Claire was quick to slap me in response. I charged toward her, but Edward butted in and pushed me down. “Don’t you dare touch my woman and my baby.” I scoffed. My heart shattering once again. “She’s pregnant too? So it wasn’t really a joke. And I foolishly believed you when you said you didn’t want to have kids yet. I waited stupidly till you were ready.” That must be why he is always on business trips, working late and always tired. We were never married, and I never saw it. “Enough of all this Alice, here, sign the papers so we could leave.” I took the ball point I always had on me and signed the papers, handing over my shares and everything I’ve worked for to him. I sat silently on the bed after they left, laughing at how stupid I’ve been. The last five years of my life has not only been a joke, but it also got me ruined. I was so out of it, I didn’t know when Beth walked in. “Alice? What happened?” she was clearly shocked. My hair was disheveled, blood trickling down my left knee from when Edward pushed me, and the table lamp that was smashed in a corner. It was a total mess. “Alice, talk to me.” Her eyes bore into mine. “It’s nothing.” She didn’t probe further, she quickly got broom and cleared up the mess. “Should I call Mr. Edward again?” “He already came,” I paused for a moment, “And we are divorced now Beth.” I slipped under the blanket and closed my eyes. I could picture her facial expressions, she was curious. But I wasn’t in the mood to go over what I experienced today. She let me rest, covering me up and patting me gently. “You don’t have to stay with me. I’d like to be alone.” “Alright. I will come in the morning.” I heard her say, and few minutes later I heard the door close. I slowly sat up . I can’t sleep. I needed a drink! I changed into a dress of mine that Beth got, and went to the convenience store near the hospital. I was a light drinker, and a can of beer was it for me, but I bought two. The hospital had a park at the back , so I went there and sat on one of the empty bench. There were few other patients still lingering around and chatting. I sipped my bear, and the first can did nothing. Same with the second can. I should have gotten more. Maybe pain doesn’t allow you get drunk. But I decided to go up to my room and rest. “Doc…tor, you must be looking for me . I went…to…get fresh air.” I smiled. “This is not your room.” “ It is.” I heard him say something again, but my eyes were already heavy and I threw myself on the bed.(ALICE)My heels clicked softly on the stairs as I gracefully descend into Alex’s gaze. The silk emerald green dress, the silver heels, the diamond jewelries he got me and a sleek designers purse completed my look.“You look beautiful,” he said, extending his hands towards me to help me down.I gave a forced smile, “You’re quite in character for tonight.” “Oh come on Alice, you can’t even accept a compliment from me? I meant it.” He smiled.I turned to him. “Thank you.”“Here.” He brought out a small black box, “It’s a ring .”“For?”“We’re engaged,” he gave me a how- could- I- forget look. “It’s an engagement ring,” he gently took my hands in his and slipped the sleek diamond ring onto my finger. It’s so pretty. He really thinks about everything. We drove off and about thirty minutes later we were at the MAYFIELD VILLA. I resisted ogling like a fool and just clung to Alex for our all night long pretend scheme. The dining hall was beautifully kept. His grandmother must love artwor
(ALICE’S POV)“What was that?” I clicked my door shut, leaning on it for a sec. My hand flew to my face, rushing over to the mirror to see my red face. “I hope he didn’t see that!” “He’s pleading early as my husband? Seriously, did he have to whisper it? He totally caught me off guard.” I mumbled, plunging onto my bed.I laid on the bed staring at the ceiling. My life was like a movie, a big thriller about my messy life.Yes, anyone would feel lucky to marry a billionaire but… maybe I shouldn’t have accepted his proposal. This is all a prop and it can flop anytime. I can’t afford to be used again. The only thing I can do now is find a job and make money, then I can break free anytime. I pulled up the duvet, covering my face and drowning my thoughts.I woke up the next morning to an email. 'Dear Alice Sanders,We are delighted to inform you that you have been selected for the Interior Design Internship position at Mayfield Interiors, a subsidiary of the Mayfield Group.Your skill
(ALEX’S POV)I watched her silently across the table. The utter surprise on her face when I asked her to marry me was gone. She let my last sentence hang by a fragile thread above us, as she continued eating. I prepared myself for rejection. Of course, even though she had more advantage marrying me, she’s someone who’d do anything to not leech off anyone, or end up indebted."Why?" she didn't look up."What?""Why do you want to marry me? We just met and I think it's quite suspicious that you are offering to help me. And you're helping me by getting married to me." She briefly glanced at me."I figured you'd ask. Well the truth is," I paused, recollecting my words. She has to believe me, " I'm not ready to marry, especially not to a woman arranged by my family.""Didn't that only happen in movies," she scoffed, "What? Are you a heir to some powerful wealthy family?""Yes." I laughed, " So you see, I can help you. I'm quite capable."“Fine.” She said, her eyes still on the food she was
(ALICE.) My eyes trailed up the double height ceilings. The glass, the furniture, the aesthetics. One word. Majestic. I quickly tore my eyes down, following Alex to the living room, my eyes doing a quick glance around the floor. I wanted my eyes to linger a bit, because who glances around a fucking penthouse! Not my fault. His “humble abode” was exquisite. He’s either from an old money family, or he’d be one of those tech guys that built a multi million dollar tech company at twenty four, or he’s straight out into illegal stuffs that rakes in money. And I’m talking drugs, or underground military weaponry distribution. “Relax. Feel at home.” Alex turned. “This is not my home,” I countered immediately. “Don’t be fierce Alice,” he laughed, “it can be your home if you want.” “Thanks for having me,” I dismissed whatever he was saying, grateful I had a place to spend the night. “Come on, let me show you your room.” I silently followed him up the staircase to the bedroom
( ALICE ) I tossed comfortably on the bed, stretching, slowly opening my eyes. I blinked. Once. Twice. The curtains were drawn over the windows, completely blocking the sunlight. That must be why the sunrise didn’t wake me. But something was off. My curtains are usually open. I paused, the scent of pistachio and mint filling my nose. Wait! My eyes widened. I turned immediately to the side, and he was on the couch reading newspaper. His face calm like I wasn’t there. He Instinctively looked towards me. “ You’re awake?” I nodded, hiding my embarrassment and the fact that I don’t remember how I ended up in his room again. My head ached terribly, and I furrowed my brow in pain. “Here, have some food and take the hangover medicine,“ Alex said, setting the table with a few strides. I didn’t like eating without brushing my teeth, but this situation made it impossible to uphold that principle. The aroma of the food evoked great hunger in me, and secondly I can’t just walk out witho
(ALICE)I quietly cleared out my desk. Leaving like I never worked to be where I was. I handed my project design files over to the next person in charge. It felt like a movie. Maybe I’m in a dream, because my head still couldn’t wrap around the fact that the life I’ve built for years has totally crumbled in front of me.So much for trusting a man!Talking about man. I have to visit Edward. I waited till the office hours were over, to be sure he would be home. I knocked and Claire appeared yet again.“Where is Edward?” I was so getting sick of all this.“Darling. Alice is asking for you.” “I’d be down in a sec.” I heard Edward say from upstairs.I sat in the living room like a stranger, like this wasn’t my home. There had been changes, obviously to Claire’s taste.“Heard you’re looking for me,” he said, descending gracefully on the stairs like a king. And in that fleeting moment, I wanted to take it all from him.“Did you have to attack me in my workplace too?”“Your workplace? Oh,
