Keira's POV

I got up early in the morning to meet up for training. I had so much on my mind, but a day out in the fields, shooting arrows, could help take my mind off things.

I went out into the quiet morning, only to see my teacher there on the field waiting for me.

Did the man ever take a break?

I walked towards him, already knowing the exact words he was going to say.

"You stood me up yesterday," he said, and I shrugged.

"I'm sorry, teacher. I told you not to come."

"Does the teacher answer to the student, or does the student answer to the teacher?" he asked, and I shook my head. I really needed this to get my mind away from Zeke and Lyra.

"The Luna Archery Tournament is a few months away, Keira. I'm hoping you know that."

"Well, did you? You decided to teach my sister too, knowing fully well I will compete against her."

"I am the archery instructor of the pack, not your personal instructor, Miss Keira," he said, and I shrugged.

"But I can't deny you are my best student," he said, and I smiled instead.

He pointed towards the targets across the training field.

"Ten arrows. One breath between every shot." He was back to instructing like he'd never said that.

I reached into the quiver strapped across my back as I pulled out the first arrow. The bow kissed my fingers as I drew it back.

Eyes on the target. In my mind, I silently counted to three. Tapping my finger on the bow with each number. I let the direction of the wind lead my arrow instead of against it.

I took in a deep breath. Paused. And then I released. The arrow tore through the morning air and buried itself dead centre of the target.

This… this was what it felt like. This was home.

I felt excitement rush through me as I picked another arrow and pointed it towards the target, waiting for the wind to lead me.

But a figure up ahead made my hands sway, and I squinted, trying to take a closer look. Up ahead was the Lycan King. Standing there with all majesty and villainous venom, staring straight at me.

For a second, a stupid thought bled through my mind, and my arrow was already pointing at him before I had realised.

How about I end him instead? Then Zeke wouldn't have to protect Lyra from him. Then… I wouldn't have to make the choice I had decided to make.

An arrow couldn't kill a Lycan King. But for some silly moment, I believed my arrow could pierce through his heart.

The wind was with me… guiding my fingers, and I let out a breath. And fired.

He saw me. He watched everything I did with an amused smile playing on his lips. He thrived on this, I realised, but it was too late. The arrow was already in the air.

"Oh, Moon Goddess," I whispered, but then watched as the arrow fell short to the ground. Not even close to him.

"Failed," I heard my teacher's voice, and I turned immediately.

"What?"

"One must be clear-headed when aiming at the target, but you let your emotions rile you up. You always have a bad temper, which is not good for someone who is to lead," he said, and I frowned.

"Clear your head, stay focused, and rise above emotions. Then no matter how big the target is… you'll always get it," he said, and the words resonated deep with me.

I turned back to Magnus, but he wasn't there anymore. The space he had been in was empty.

After practice, I showered and came down for breakfast and stopped just outside the dining room when I heard my mother's voice, sharp and pleading at once.

"She can't go to him," my mother was saying. "Please. Not Lyra."

I stayed still, my hand resting against the wall. Through the doorway, I could see Lyra at the table, her shoulders shaking, tears streaming down her face.

"I heard he's terrifying," Lyra sobbed. "I don't want anything to do with him. Please, Mum, don't make me go."

"If anyone should go," my mother said, "it should be Keira. She has Alpha blood. She would last longer against someone like him."

The reason we had adopted Lyra was because my mum didn't see me as her daughter. I had been born as a twin, with my brother who was a true heir, but an accident had happened, and I had watched him die.

My mother still blamed me for it even if I could barely remember. But something told me that there was more to it than I could remember.

I walked into the dining room, my spine straight even though my heart wasn't.

"Dad, I—"

"Aren't you ashamed to even show your face?" my mother cut in before I could finish. "Hiding behind your younger sister, after everything, after stealing the man she loved?"

Rage shot through me so fast I could barely breathe around it. My hands curled into fists at my sides. "Lyra is not my sister," I snapped.

My mother's frown deepened, disdain written all over her face.

"There she goes. The wicked child. As if you ever cherished the sibling you actually had. You let him die."

"Mum, we were five," I shouted, tears spilling down my face before I could stop them. "We were both five years old. I couldn't have saved him even if I tried."

"Rebecca, we agreed to stop bringing that up," my father scolded her softly.

She didn't answer me, and I breathed out, trying to steady my voice for what I was about to say next.

"I have had a long thought about everything and have decided to step up as the future leader of the pack."

"Stop with the speech and get to the point already," my mother said.

"I have decided that Zeke should be married to Lyra," I said, and they looked up at me in surprise.

"What do you mean? You're Zeke's mate!" my father said.

"But he's only ever loved Lyra, like mother said. So I've decided to be the bride of the Lycan King instead.”

MAGNUS’ POVThe shaman’s words settled over the small room like a second layer of smoke from the central fire. I leaned forward on the low stool and kept my voice steady even though every muscle in my shoulders had locked tight.“What do you mean she will die no matter what?” I asked. “I came here because I refuse to let that happen. I will not allow the warning to become true. Tell me how to stop this.”The blind man rested both hands on the carved stick across his knees and tilted his head as if listening to something I could not hear. His voice stayed calm and measured when he answered.“You carry many questions, Lycan King. I hold the answers to each of them. You just have to sit properly and breathe. The truth does not arrive in a single rush.”I forced my spine against the back of the stool and waited. Torin remained silent beside me, but I felt the tension rolling off him in waves. The fire popped once and sent a thin spiral of herb-scented smoke toward the rafters. The air in

KEIRA’S POV I opened my eyes to morning light spilling across the bed and the empty space beside me. The sheets on Magnus’s side still held a faint trace of warmth, but his body was gone. I sat up slowly and called his name once. The room gave back only silence. After the long night of the dead girl, the stone, and the moment he had lain without a pulse, I had expected to find him still sleeping beside me. I swung my legs over the edge of the mattress and stood, the cool floorboards grounding me for a moment. “Magnus?” No answer came. I crossed to the bathroom and pushed the door wider. The tiles were dry, and the mirror reflected only my own face, pale from the sleepless hours behind us. I returned to the bedroom and leaned out the open window. The courtyard below held a few guards on early patrol, but none of them was him. I stepped onto the small patio that connected to the chambers and scanned the training grounds visible beyond the low wall. Empty racks and quiet sa

MAGNUS’ POV I opened my eyes to the first gray light of morning filtering through the curtains and the steady weight of Keira’s breathing against my side. I never truly slept, every time my body tried to sink under the surface the words from the vision rose again and dragged me back. Enemy. My mother had called Keira an enemy. The single word sat in the center of my skull and refused to leave. I turned it over again and again in the quiet hours yet no meaning formed that matched the woman sleeping beside me. She had run toward danger for me, she had refused to leave my side even when the cost was her own life. How that woman could be named an enemy of my bloodline was what I could not bring myself to understand. The dead girl had spoken the same warning in different words. Keira would die. The two messages braided together until the only clear thought left was that I had to protect her no matter the price. If the path required that I give her distance or even a divorce then I would

KEIRA’S POVWe stepped into the chamber as the door closed behind us with a soft click. The lamps still burned low along the walls and the sharp medicine scent lingered in the air mixed with the familiar pine that always clung to the sheets. I walked toward the bed first and sat on the edge of the mattress while the weight of Harlan’s earlier words followed me into the quiet space. The more time I spent at Magnus’s side the more of my own life drained into his. I had heard the truth before when he tried to keep distance between us but hearing it again from the doctor settled the knowledge heavier against my ribs. One part of me wanted to stand up and walk straight out of the room for the sake of whatever years I might still claim as my own. The larger part of me refused to move. “How did I fall so hard for this man that I’m ready to lay down my life for him?” I asked myself. “Somewhere in between you fell hard for him, Keira,” Daisy replied, her voice weak. This was the first time

MAGNUS’ POV The heat of the red flames pressed against my skin as I stared at the three figures in front of me. My mother’s eyes held nothing but open hatred. My father’s jaw stayed locked hard. My brother’s arms remained crossed over his chest and his stare cut straight through me.I found my voice first and forced it steady. “Enemy? Keira is my wife. How is she an enemy to this family?”My mother stepped closer and the flames licked higher around her bare feet. “She is not your fated mate. She never was. She is a destruction sent to end the line of this blood. Every moment you keep her at your side pulls the stone tighter around your heart and drags you closer to the grave. Send her away. Divorce her. Cut the bond completely if you want any chance to survive.” My father nodded once and the motion carried the same cold weight. “We spent the years we still walked the earth keeping you from her path. We watched the signs and we did everything in our power to make certain your roads n

KEIRA’S POVI stood in the corridor with Torin and kept my eyes on the closed door of Magnus’s chambers. My hands still trembled from the force of everything that had just happened. I turned to him and spoke first.“Who do we call to find out what truly happened to him in there? Someone has to explain the dead girl and the way the stone reacted.” Torin rubbed the back of his neck. “The only person I trust with this is Dr. Harlan. He already knows the history of the curse.” He stepped a few paces away and pulled out his phone. I watched him dial and press the device to his ear. His voice stayed low as he explained the situation in short clipped sentences. A heavy thud sounded from inside the room while he spoke. The noise was solid and sudden as if a body had struck the floor hard. I glanced at the door but did not move toward it yet. Magnus had only just lain down. Perhaps he had shifted in his sleep. Torin’s conversation continued. I caught Harlan’s reply through the speaker when
