Lena.

I thought I could disappear.

I thought if I changed my name, cut my hair, and found a quiet town where nobody asked questions, the past wouldn’t follow me here.

I thought wrong.

It started two days ago.

Subtle at first barely a whisper in my mind. A hesitation at the door. A flicker of movement I couldn’t place. The kind of thing you blame on nerves or lack of sleep. And God knows I haven’t slept much lately. But today… today something shifted.

I feel it like a weight in the air.

Like the silence is too still.

Too watched.

The bookstore closes early on Thursdays, and I walk the ten minute trail home just as the sun dips behind the pines. Mossbridge is small, but beautiful in that worn, lived-in way. Ivy curls over old stone walls. Kids chalk pictures on the pavement. People wave just to be kind.

It’s the kind of town where no one locks their doors and I made damn sure mine has five bolts.

LucaIt’s been thirty two days since Lena disappeared.I counted each passing day, every time my phone rang hoping it was her or the private investigator telling me he had found her. But every time I was disappointed. Not because I like the number. Not because I’m keeping some pathetic shrine of memory. But because every day without her has felt like a hollow punch to the gut. Like I’m living on borrowed time like some piece of me walked out the door with her, and I can’t get it back.I’ve had people leave before. But no one ever vanished the way Lena did.She didn’t just walk away. She erased herself. Changed her phone number. Wiped every trace. Closed the apartment. Left no forwarding address, no goodbye, no note. Not even a damn voicemail. She burned the bridge and salted the earth. And still still I haven’t stopped looking. My sister Lila hates me for it. Thinks I’ve lost my mind. “She lied to us, Luca. She stole from us. She made you weak.”But she didn’t make me weak. She made

Lena. It’s supposed to be a normal day.Routine is everything now. The rhythm of waking up before sunrise, making the same coffee with the same amount of sugar, unlocking the bookstore, opening the front windows, sorting deliveries, and waiting for the quiet to wrap itself around me like a blanket. This town, this life it’s all about invisibility. And most days, it works. Most days, no one sees me.But today is different.I feel it the second the bell over the bookstore door chimes, soft and sharp.I look up from the counter, half expecting Abby, the barista from next door, or the little girl who comes in every Wednesday asking if the new fairytale books have arrived.Instead, I see him.Mason. I freeze. For a second, I wonder if I’ve made him up like a ghost, conjured by guilt and memory. But no. He’s very real. Standing just inside the door, dressed in worn jeans and a gray wool coat, his brown hair damp from the sea spray.Same hazel eyes. Same nervous energy in the way he rubs t

Lena. They say starting over feels like breathing again.Whoever said that never did it the way I had to alone, broke, and choking on the ashes of the girl I used to be.It’s been three weeks since I left.Three weeks of living in this quiet little coastal town where no one knows my name or what I’ve done. Three weeks of pretending I’m not looking over my shoulder every time I walk home from the café, of lying to myself that I don’t miss the way Luca used to say my name like it meant something.I go by Emilia now. Emilia Hart.Emilia is my mom's name and hart my dad's name. No one would think to look for that because it's so obvious no one would use their parents names if they are trying to start over with no one from their past finding them. It’s just different enough that it doesn’t make me flinch when someone says it out loud.I rent a room above a bookstore from a sweet widow named Miss Clare, who thinks I moved here to "heal from a bad relationship.” She doesn’t ask questions.

Luca. It’s been a week.Seven days without a trace of her. She was completely gone. Seven mornings waking up and expecting her to be there beside me curled up like a secret, breathing softly, arms wrapped around the pillow I never had the heart to move. Seven nights walking past the guest room she used, the one I still haven't touched, because the smell of her shampoo lingers faintly in the air.The team turned up nothing. The city’s cameras picked up her leaving her apartment building that night with a single duffel bag slung over her shoulder. No taxi. No ride service. She walked. Then vanished.Poof, she had picked her brother Ethan and now neither of them could be found. You would think being who I am, with all the influence and money I have, I would be able to trace her and quick, but she was clearly good at this. Nothing came up, no tips no faces no credit card swipes with her name, wherever she was, she was keeping it loweky and moving fast too. No paper trail. No contact.

  • MARRIED TO THE MAFIA   Chapter 119

Luca This was unlike Lena, and I was starting to get worried now. I had tried calling her since last night, multiple times and there was no answer the calls went straight to voice mail. At first I thought she was just taking a breather but now things were getting out of hand. I had called her the first thing when I woke up this morning, sent her some texts and it was still total silence. Each attempt goes straight to voicemail, no ringing, no busy signal. Just that same robotic voice telling me Lena’s number is no longer available. It’s not her voice. Not her warmth. Not her.We were supposed to meet up today and discuss some things, or maybe she changed her mind or was just having one of those days. Alot was running through my mind, but again Lena had been through it this last few weeks and maybe all the drama was finally taking a toll on her. By the time the sun sets, I’m pacing across my office like a caged animal. My phone vibrates constantly updates from my team, a shipment c
