003| PRISONER PRINCESS

~RAVENNA~

With a yelp, I ducked. But the damage was already done.

The arrow pierced through Luis’s side, earning a pained howl from him.

His speed reduced drastically, as though he was trying to catch his breath, or maybe numb the pain.

He was a wolf; he was supposed to heal fast, but the blood kept flowing.

The others were getting closer now, I could almost feel their harsh breathing behind me.

We rounded another corner quickly, the arrow colliding with something else.

He cried out again.

I reached out, without thinking, I snapped the arrow and tossed it aside.

They were nocking another arrow, ready to shoot.

With just their aim, I am sure they would get every shot right.

My body began shaking. Luis was in pain because of me. What if they kill him?

“Luis… you must stop.” I patted his side gently, hoping he would give in.

But he seemed to be lost in a world of his own, a world determined to get me out unscratched.

However, I knew that was impossible, not with how close they were now.

I patted him harshly. “They are going to shoot again; we must stop and surrender.”

He growled, increasing his pace.

He wasn’t healing.

“Listen to me. You are going to get us killed.”

He turned another corner, almost falling. I held onto him tightly, my heart pounding so hard against my chest.

“Luis, please.”

Another swish sound came. Before I could turn, Luis howled again, but this time, he fell.

I wasn’t quick enough to hold on. I fell from his back, falling down a slope.

I reached out, grabbing hold of branches, rocks, leaves, anything to keep me from falling.

But I kept falling alongside everything I tried to hold for support.

The scream tore through my lip before I could stop it, fading away with the weight of the wind.

This is the end.

I grabbed something else, but then, I lost my footing.

The next moment, my back hit the ground with a loud thud.

I lay there, unable to move. My body felt numb, my brain frozen.

If this was death, then I will certainly embrace it. I can see dad again, and apologize for being that child that led to his death.

Something moved not far from me, or someone.

I turned forcefully, ignoring the pain shooting down every part of my body.

There, in a pool of blood, lay Luis.

He had shifted back to his human form, two arrows stuck into his back and lower body.

My heart twisted with a pain far more than I imagined.

“Luis—”

I reached out, hoping, praying I haven’t lost another in an attempt to protect me.

“Please, moon goddess.” My voice shook badly. I pushed my body, carrying both leaves and dust, trying to reach him with all my strength.

But my body failed me. And just as our hands touched, darkness took over.

---

The light was dim and far away. the scent of woodsmoke filled my nostrils.

“Dad.”

Then it dawned on me. Dad was gone.

Forcing my eyelids open, I noticed the burning touch, not far away.

It was the only light in the room.

I tried to move my body, only to be met with excruciating pain.

Luis, where is he?

Putting my hand on the ground, I tried to get up on my feet, but was instantly drawn back.

Only then did I notice the heavy chains binding my neck, wrists and ankles. I was bound like a criminal.

My stomach sank.

Could it be that they found out who I am? What I am?

I turned to the corner. There was nothing there, just a dirty bowl, some rag like clothes on the floor.

But no sign of Luis.

I bit down hard on my lips, trying not to let another tear slip.

Could Luis be…?

Shaking my head frantically, I looked up to the ceiling to hold in the tears.

He couldn’t. I won’t be able to forgive myself if anything happened to him.

This was clearly a dungeon. The walls were rough, the ground cold. Built to bring both torture and fear to occupants.

I need to see him.

Pulling the chains with all my strength, I attacked the iron bars with my feet, hitting against it with all my strength.

No one responded. There was no sign of another person being in here.

“Someone, help me…” The words tore out of my throat before I could rethink it.

The sound of iron doors opening came. For some reason, my body shivered, my heart racing uncontrollably.

This could be the end for me.

Three men entered, stopping in front of my cell. Their faces were unfamiliar, but there was something about the one that stood in the center that made me uncomfortable.

“Hello Princess, glad to see you are fitting in well.” He said, not much of a smile on his face.

He knew who I was, though I couldn’t recall ever meeting him.

“Who are you?” I gritted my teeth, doing my best not to lose control.

He took a step closer, his teeth grazing in the firelight.

“Who do you think?”

Could he be the Alpha King?

Every anger, every pain I thought I locked in came rushing back up.

I lunged at him with all my strength, my body vibrating with a need to tear him apart.

But the chains dragged me back.

Tears ran down my face out of frustration when I couldn’t reach him.

“Why, why did you kill him?” My voice broke.

“Who, your father? He wasn’t complying. The same fate awaits you if you don’t start speaking.” He responded in a stern voice.

I clenched my fists tightly, my nails digging into my palm was the only thing keeping me sane right now.

I looked him up to down, noticing his dressing. He didn’t seem royalty.

“Take me to the king, I will speak with him instead.”

My eyes met his, I noticed the rage that flashed through his.

“You will speak to me. The king has no business with captives, you answer to me.”

I scoffed, bitterly. “Does your king know how power thirsty you are? Who knows, you might be planning a coup. So pathetic.”

They were going to kill me anyway. If I can’t fight them, then I can make them feel terrible about their own selves.

His eyes glowed with that of his wolf’s and he lunged at me, only to be pulled back by another man I didn’t notice before.

The man seemed of a higher rank, and had cold eyes. He pulled the other man easily.

“That’s enough, Gamma Miles. Bring her to the King, he wants to see her.”

~RAVENNA~ I got up from my seat instantly, my heart racing. Just when I thought I escaped this problem, he showed up again.Julia quickly pulled me behind her.“Gamma Miles,” she greeted with a slight bow. I frowned at her.Wasn’t he removed from his position, why was she being too respectful?Gamma Miles looked her over, a dark smile on his face.“Seems you haven’t forgotten your place after all,” he said with so much arrogance that almost got me rolling my eyes.Julia didn’t respond to that. She kept her head down as though she was kind of afraid of him, before she asked.“What brings you here, Gamma Miles?”Gamma Miles turned to look at me then, his eyes scanning my face as though looking for even the faintest weakness.I kept my face straight, refusing to blink against his hard gaze.He turned to Julia. “Why is she here?”Julia looked from him to me. “She… I’m training her here as per the king’s orders.”I tried to understand what was going on, but no matter how much I tried, it

~RAVENNA~It took everything in me not to scream and bolt as soon as I saw who it was. There was something about him that always made the hairs on my body stand in fear.He had that icy cold look in his eyes, just like when he had been dragging me away, obviously with evil intent.“Not so fast, princess,” he whispered with a dark smile.I swallowed hard. I tugged at his hand, trying to free myself from his hold, but it only tightened.Gritting my teeth, I hid the fear that was rushing through me, and faced him with a calm expression on my face, even though my heart was pounding.“Are you really going to do that in front of your brother and the elders? Do you think its wise?” I whispered, leaning in to him.For a moment, something flashed across his eyes, something dark and cold.“Are you threatening me?” he threw back, rage rushing through his every word.I smiled at him.“Threatening? C’mon that’s too big a word. I’m just reminding you of what could happen. We won’t want your brother

~RAVENNA~I followed her, unsure of what else to do.Are we still acting or not? However, she kept a straight face, half dragging me towards the servants’ quarters. It was only after we got there that she let go of my hand. Then, she bowed a little awkwardly.I stared at her, not knowing what to say.I looked around, recalling how I had fought with Madame Brown here. For some strange reason, my heart swelled with pride.Aurora made to walk past me, but I drew her back.“Okay, start talking. What’s going on?” I barely restrained myself from glaring at her.Somehow, I couldn’t shake the thought that she knew exactly what she was playing at.“I’m sorry, that was the only way. There was a man there and he’s one of the warriors.”“The warriors?” I repeated with a deep frown. “What have I got to do with the warriors?”She shrugged. “I’m not sure, but I overheard a few of them speaking. It seemed someone had paid them to watch you closely.”I didn’t speak. I waited for her to continue.“Not

  • MATED TO A WEAPON: THE SHADOW BRIDE SAGA   045| SOMEONE IS WATCHING

~RAVANNA~The moment the door shut, I exhaled shakily. My heart tightened so painfully I put my hand on my chest to numb the pain.I shouldn’t feel this way, this sad for saying those things to him, but why did even the thought of it feel like I was being stabbed over and over.I wanted so much to hug his departing back, to hold him back from leaving.I wanted to ask him to his face why he claimed I wasn’t important, and yet came to find me, acting as though I meant everything to him.Hating him was the right thing to do, he was just playing with my feelings anyway.Yet, I just can’t even imagine hating him. It was just impossible.Forcing myself to calm down, I sat back down on the bed to catch my breath. I forced myself to think of other things, especially the possibility that we’ll be leaving this place.Letting out a deep sigh, I got out of bed. This is still duty time, I have to keep showing up so no one will suspect Luis and I, when we want to leave. As soon as I left the room,

~KING KAELION~I sat there staring at her, trying to figure out what was going through her mind. Her face was closed up, making it difficult for me to understand whatever it is that she has going on in her mind.I felt like I was going crazy, especially with the way she was looking everywhere but my face.“Ravenna, talk to me. What’s going on? We can talk about this.”But no matter how much I pled, it seemed it kept pushing her further away. She got up then, her face clear of any emotion, and gently gestured to the door.“You should leave, King Kaelion. I need to be alone,” she said with a slight nod.My heart tightened. She was doing that again, being too respectful. The softness in her voice was sharp enough to slice through my chest.No. The refusal burned in my heart, but I couldn’t bring myself to say it out. Those words weren’t meant for me. They couldn’t be.Her tone was polite in a controlled and respectful way. It terrified me more than her anger ever could.“Ravenna,” I whis

~KING KAELION~My fists were tightly clenched as the elders kept asking about Ravenna. Each word echoed in my skull longer than it should have, and no matter how hard I tried, I couldn’t dismiss it.“My king, who’s she to you?”“Some say she sleeps in your room…”“Are you using her?”They had no idea how close they were to danger, and how close they were to provoking a wrath I could barely contain.I hadn’t answered them the way I wanted to. I wanted nothing more than to announce what she meant to me, but the moment I saw the flicker of calculation in their eyes, I knew exactly what they were thinking.I forced myself to remain calm, even though I would enjoy nothing more than having my men flog them until day break.I’ve known them long enough to know what that look on their faces meant.Once they find out what she meant to me, they wouldn’t waste anytime to use her, leverage her and even destroy her.“She’s no one important,” I told them with a serious face, but for some strange rea
