I couldn’t face Russell anymore. I felt ashamed of myself. Or maybe scared of him. Even though he hadn’t shown any sign of being a demon, I was still afraid of the reality behind his attractiveness. I was going outside when I saw him standing on the porch.

“Hey, Ruby,” he called my attention. I glanced at him and walked away. I was trying to avoid him as much as I could just not to fall for his temptation anymore. He followed me to the tree. “What is the matter, Ruby?” he asked.

“Uh, I think I left my phone inside,” I lied, turning to go back inside. He grabbed my hand and pulled me back. I gasped.

“Why are you avoiding me, Ruby? Is it because of last night?” he asked.
