LOGINKARLA'S POV
I perfectly understood why my father was so violently opposed to the thought of having a child be an Omega. I was now the weak link in the family. In the pack, our family was one of those families that was one calamity away from being reduced to a lower-class family, and my father would rather die than become one, which was why he would rather die than have one of his children be an Omega. He had succeeded with my two brothers so far, so he had concluded that the problem had to be from me. "I won't have an omega in my home." He had boomed. I was still in so much pain that I didn't register the pain as he dragged me to the basement himself. Later that night, after I eventually changed back to my human form, I heard my parents arguing loudly, to be fair, it was more like my father yelling at my mother. "You are the cause of this." He spat. "You were the weakling of your family, and now you've passed it to your daughter." "There has never been an omega in my family, and you know that. You wouldn't have married me if there was." "Who knows if you had..." "This is not the time to get into an argument about anything. What are we going to do about her?" My mother cut in, which was pretty bold of her. I didn't know which hurt most, that I was an anomaly in both sides of my families or that they were both referring to me like I was a stranger instead of their daughter. "She's going to remain in the basement until we find a solution." "People will find out eventually." "I know, but let's hold out a bit. We can't afford to let her drag down the family's standing. Let's wait and see if her brothers will snag good mates." After that, their voices went down, and I was left with my thoughts. It was one thing to understand why something was happening, but it didn't make it hurt any less. Our pack wasn't always this obsessed with rankings, at least that was what my parents used to imply. Although no one in the pack would openly talk down to a wolf of a lesser rank, but in recent years, it was getting obvious, and families with Beta and Gamma wolves were now careful not to marry down. Actually, this whole obsession with wolf rankings started after the recent Alpha Aiden became our leader. Rumor had it that he shouldn't have become Alpha. Alpha Aiden has a twin brother, Ace, who also happened to be my friend growing up. Ace was always the one touted to be the alpha. He was the stronger one of the two. Although their father didn't play favorites, but it was pretty obvious whom he was training to take over after him. Ace. This caused a lot of friction among the twins. By the time they were 17, most people had started to refer to Ace as the new alpha to be. It was no surprise when they shifted on their 18th birthday and Ace had the bigger and stronger wolf, whom he named Zeus. However, shortly after their 19th birthday, Ace was found with blood and a dead wolf, who Aiden claimed to be their father and our old alpha, while Ace swore that he knew nothing about it and that he had been set up. No one except me believed him. I was 16 at the time, and I cried every day, thinking that he was going to be killed. To my relief, he was only exiled and was to be killed immediately if he ever dared to set his foot back. I was certain Aiden had something to do with it, there was no scrap of evidence that pointed to him. Aiden was declared our new Alpha, and he went on a rampage. To show everyone that he was powerful, since he knew the entire pack preferred his twin brother, Ace. In his four years as the Alpha, he had raided five smaller packs. Personally, I thought he was overcompensating. He knew he could never be as good as his twin brother, so he was showing the world that he was a ruthless man. To hide his own weakness, he would often take it out on omegas. Once, he had a man flogged to death for collapsing on a run. He was fond of things like that, flaunting what he thought was a weakness in other people. "We can't afford to have losers in the pack." He would often say, as if omegas aren't part of a natural order. I shuddered to think of what he would do to me once he finds out that I am an Omega. After two days in the basement, I was starving, but surprisingly, I wasn't as weak as I thought I would be. My wolf, whom I had named Zeal, was weak already, but there was something in my core that I was sure was not normal for a wolf of my size, but I decided to keep that knowledge to myself. My only hope of ever getting out of here was if I was fortunate enough to get my mate this year. My gut told me I would be getting my mate soon, but it wasn't going to happen if I was in a makeshift jail. So, when Lance came to slip me some rolls and bread, I held on to his hand and begged him to get me out of here. He shook his head. "It's too dangerous out there for you. Where would you even go?" "I'm not running away. I just want to find my mate at the Moon Goddess festival. If I find my mate, Dad might decide to forgive me for bringing such shame to us." I said pitifully. "Fine." He said. "It's tomorrow. I'll come get you." The next night came soon, and he came to get me. "You have thirty minutes. Good luck, baby sis." I would be needing it.The elevator ride down to the lobby felt like it took a lifetime, at least it felt that way to her.Cassie stood in the center of the steel box, her back straight, her chin up, staring at her reflection in the elevator. Her guards stood in the corners, but Cassie wasn't looking at them. She was looking at the woman in the reflection. She looked like she belonged in the white suit and pretty heels and calm facade, but deep inside, she felt like she was about to vomit. The minute the elevator slid open in the underground garage, her mask slipped, making her knees buckle a bit."Ms. Stone?" The nearest guard quickly reached out to steady her."I'm fine," she breathed out, though her voice lacked the boom it had upstairs. "Just... get me to the car."They moved quickly toward the convoy of black SUVs waiting for her. As Cassie approached the middle vehicle, the back door opened from the inside. She climbed in, sinking into the comfortable leather seat. The door slammed shut, effectively s
KARLA'S POV A week later, the coven had chosen a date for my coronation and initiation ceremony. They also agreed to my suggestion that we have the initiation in the coven and then host the coronation ceremony in the pack house."Wow, I thought there would be a bit of argument there." I told them after they readily agreed to my proposal. Not one of them opposed me. "Why would we? You are our leader; you know what's best for us," was Sonia's simple response. It then dawned on me how big of a responsibility was on my shoulders. Any decision I made was going to affect all 150 witches that were under my watch, but this time, I didn't freak out; I embraced the responsibility. "What if I don't make the best reasons?""Well, do you have any reason you want us to have the coronation in the midst of wolves?""Yes, actually. I want the stigma around witches to be completely erased. Witches are always hiding, and that's enough. I also want wolves to stop looking down on witches. Most wolves d
THIRD PERSON'S POV When the witches received Karla's letter, Sonia thought for sure that she was turning down their request. She was even hesitant to open the letter. She also wondered how she was supposed to tell the others that she had turned them down. It took her two whole days before she could bring herself to open the letter. When she did and went through the letter, she laughed to herself and at herself. She wasn't rejecting them at all, she was skeptical about the fact that she was a hybrid who wasn't willing to hide a part of herself for the other part. Sonia knew she had no problem with the fact that she was a hybrid, but she still wanted to get the opinions of others on the matter, so she called a meeting. "What I want to talk about is the issue of our new leader.""She's an issue now?""Not at all, but it could be. It all depends on what the majority decides.""Has she agreed yet? I need to know so I can look for an auspicious date and also send out invites for her initi
KARLA'S POV I went to visit them with Rayden and spent more than ten hours with the witches before Rayden and I decided to call it a day. "Can you believe what just happened?" I said to Rayden when we were well out of their sight."I know, right? It's very rare that the coven asks someone they barely know to be a friend of the coven." He said excitedly."That was what stood out to you out of everything that happened today?""It was really weird. It's an exciting offer." He really was excited about it; by the way, his lips couldn't stop smiling. "What does it really entail?" "I get all the benefits the members get, and I get to weigh in on important decisions. It's like being in a coven without actually being in a coven, you know? It's the perfect thing for me right now, seeing as things are really crazy in the pack right now, what with the moving and all that.""Funny how you should mention that because I just got offered the leadership of an entire coven. What the hell do I know
THIRD PERSON'S POV Things were finally going back to normal in the BlueMoon Pack. It would definitely take a long time before things would go back to the way they were before Aiden took over, but they were on the path. The journey would be a long one, but they were fortunate to have a leader that cared about them genuinely. The first thing he did when he got the pack's finances under control was destroy the segregation that his brother enforced. All wolves were equal irrespective of their ranks. It was not an easy task because the higher-ranking wolves had started to believe that they were superior and had started to treat omegas as slaves they had a right to. In the schools, they made omegas sit apart. In the hospital, too, it was the same. The healers wouldn't prioritize an omega's health over a gamma or a beta, irrespective of what their illness was.It was Rayden that sent his men undercover to make sure that they weren't just working with hearsay. The report of his men was even
KARLA'S POV I narrowed my eyes at my mother. "You must think I'm some kind of pushover, don't you? You brought him here? For what purpose exactly? To play happy family?" The more I thought about it, the angrier I became. What did they take me for?Lucien stepped in front of her, as if to shield her from my attack, and I scoffed. They were so good at protecting each other. I was the outsider that was way more trouble."We all get that you're angry, Kid." Lucien said calmly, and I wondered what exactly was going on. Was he begging for my forgiveness or berating me?"Leave." I said calmly too to level his tone. "I want all of you to leave this place and never come back.""You can't...""Take the chance now that I'm being nice, or I'll have the guards throw you out or worse, boot all of you from this pack." I raised my voice a bit so they knew I wasn't playing around. I would not do that to any one of them, though. If there's anyone that knows what it feels like to be uprooted from a pla
