KARLA'S POV
My entire household was buzzing with an energy that we could all feel, but we couldn't quite describe what was in the air. My mother, a small prim, and proper woman who would rather get caught in a fire than run, because running was not very proper. One could easily mistake our family for a royal family instead of an average family in the pack. The only exception to the prim and proper image my mother tried so desperately to portray was the training my father put my two brothers, Lucien, Lance and me through. "There is no space for a weakling in my house." My father, Richard, would say while eyeing me, as if I was already an embarrassment. It was not my fault that my brothers had already beefed up and now towered over everyone in the house. What my father meant by a weakling, of course, was an omega. In our world, being an Omega was the worst thing that could happen to you. Omegas were treated like a blemish in the society. "Will you snap out of your daydreaming and fold those clothes properly?" My father's growl jolted me out of my reverie as I scurried away from his sight. My father has been on edge ever since my 18th birthday drew closer. My family members were all anxious to find where I ranked in the wolf hierarchy. No one said it outright, but I was pretty sure that my father would disown me if my wolf turned out to be an Omega. That night, we gathered for dinner as usual, but for some reason, I couldn’t keep any food down, so I pushed my food around the plate. "Karla, is the food not to your liking?" I should have known my father would notice that I was not eating. "You have to eat your vegetables to keep your strength up, little girl." Yet, another reminder that I was expected to rank higher than an Omega. Which was why my father had been training me day and night. At the crack of dawn, my father would make me run all over our small compound to build up my stamina. My father didn't discriminate when it came to hardwork. I pulled my weight as much as my brothers did. Once, I had cried to my mother that I no longer wanted to train with my brothers. "Mom, there's no war coming, and I even doubt that I would be picked to fight in the war." Sixteen-year-old me had whined. All I wanted was to be like other girls in the pack who spent all their time painting their nails and kissing their boyfriends. With how closely my father ran my life, it was impossible to have a normal life. "Karla, you are not like other girls. You have to be stronger." She admonished, but she didn’t stop there. She told my father, who in turn doubled the work I had been doing before. I had since then learned to keep my suffering to myself. I was certain that all these would stop when I get my wolf and, hopefully, my mate. Some wolves were lucky to find their mates immediately, while others had to wait years. I didn't mind either, as long as it stopped what my father was making me go through. I was so eager to get my wolf that I started to train harder and pray to the moon goddess to bless me with a Beta or Gamma wolf. I wanted my wolf for more reasons than one... By the eve of the full moon, everyone in my family tiptoed around me. Even my father stayed out of my way. I was fed the food I craved. My father didn't make me train, either. "You're going to need all your strength to turn." I had heard plenty stories of how painful turning was. Some even died in the process! Lucien's wolf was a Gamma, and it brought him great pain. The tingling started shortly after dinner started. I gasped at the unfamiliar throbbing. "Papa, what's happening? My back stings." He exchanged glances with my brothers, and they bundled me to the basement with tears in my eyes. "It's only for a little while, Kiddo." My immediate brother, Lance, whispered and squeezed my hand in comfort. I couldn't smile my thanks at him because the pain increased. "Just remember to breathe." I couldn't tell how many hours I spent on the floor howling and moaning. My eyes were sealed shut so I couldn't even see how far I was covered in fur. At some point, taking deep breaths like my brother had prescribed became harder, so I just surrendered myself to the pain. I embraced the light, and the world went black. It was a gasp that brought me back to life, but my eyes stayed shut still. "What is it? So small?" It was my mother's voice. I forced my eyes open to find three pairs of eyes staring back at me. "Mom..." I wanted to say something, but it came out as a small whine. I desperately wanted to know what my wolf was. Maybe it was a beta, judging by the pain I went through and how... "Mom, she's an Omega," Lucien pronounced. "Shut the f*ck up, Luc. How can you say that? It's too soon to tell." Lance chided. "What, she's so f*cking small." Dread settled in my stomach. "It's perfectly normal," my mother said in a small voice that I desperately wanted to believe. "Her bones still need to form properly. We will know by nightfall." In the meantime, my mother had Lance carry me up to my room so I could rest and bond with my wolf. I slept all through the day. It was the sound of my door being slammed open that woke me up. It was my father, and he looked at me with deep disdain showing on his face. "You're an omega." He sneered. "Lock her up this instant. An abomination."THIRD PERSON'S POV The Tyana witches watched Anita go with a smirk. For someone with that amount of sheer power in her, she sure was gullible. They didn't even have to try too hard to convince her that they had given her the power she badly craved. Power that wasn't hers.As she was exhausted, it was very easy to put her in deep sleep, and then made her a potion to ease her pain. Combined with the adrenaline they pumped her with, she was a goner. When she woke up mere hours later, she was made to believe that she had been asleep for days."Can I join your coven? It would be a huge boost for you witches if I do." Was the first thing she said when she fully recovered. Not a thank you. Not a thank you for saving me, as she believed. The leader couldn't believe how large her ego was. She had never met a witch that was as cocky as this one in front of them."So?" She raised an indignant brow, as if they were wasting her time. It was unbelievable. She wouldn't have believed it if she wasn
KARLA'S POV My food became constant. I was eating twice a day every day. The ration was small, but it gave me the strength I needed to work on my spells and gather my strength to prepare for the war I was sure would be awaiting once I managed to break out of here. This morning, I had a surprise. When the guards that brought my food left, one of them came back and spoke to me."You're Karla." It was a statement, one that I didn't know how to respond to."Who's asking?" I was not a stranger in this pack, so it could be anyone I had come across in the pack before I left. The fact that he was masked wasn't helping matters."Alpha Ace sent me to you. He wants to know how you're doing.""I'm fine." I told him cautiously. I still couldn't trust this man or his intentions. For all I knew, he could be one of Anita's moles, sent to get into my head. She would stop at nothing. "How is he doing, too?""He's fine. I will relay your message to him." That was all he said, and he was gone. I watched
THIRD PERSON'S POV "You can't kick me out of the coven." She said and shakily got to her feet. She hurried forward to snatch the shiny ball from whoever had it, but she was in for a rude shock. The ground was swept from her feet, and she found herself with her face in the dirt. "Please." She whispered brokenly. "I have no one else but you." They were mothers, and they couldn't bear to see her looking so tired and dejected. It was like kicking a puppy. "Stand up." The leader told her, and she pretended to stand then fall again. She knew they had bought her fake act when three of them fell over themselves to help her up. How pathetic were they, she thought to herself. As long as they pitied her, she would continue to come out on top. That was how she had managed to beat Amaya at her game all those centuries ago. She tugged at her heartstring and showed her why you couldn't mix power and emotion together. The witches helped her into a warm room. Anita knew she couldn't leave now. She
THIRD PERSON'S POV Anita was in a bit of a bind. She had depleted her powers, and it would take her at least three days to get back in top shape. She had only one option: to take Karla's power for herself. However, that was not her problem. She had no qualms about taking her power for herself. It was the fact that she would have to be away for almost a week. That was if there were no complications, but if there was, it could take at least two weeks before everything was complete. She got up and went to her special box. In it was a shiny ball that she used to trap Karla. She stared at it with a malicious sneer. She wondered what would happen if she just smashed the ball into pieces. Before she could be tempted to do something stupid, she returned the ball and closed the box.The sharp pain in her abdomen reminded her why she hated Karla so much. When she got her powers back, the old witch warned her to be very careful when using her power."Your core is not as strong as you should be.
THIRD PERSON'S POV Anita watched Aiden with a calculating gaze. He had been a little bit guarded since the day before when he came to ask her what their end goal was. She wanted to get into his head to see what he was thinking, but she didn't have that power yet. This morning, she was in the mood to test just how deep her hold on him was. That would determine what she was going to do next. She could move faster with her plans or renew her spells on him. To test this theory of hers, she got dressed and went to the strategic meeting she knew he always had with his men in the morning. The guards at the door were hesitant. They were in a tight spot. The Alpha did tell them to do everything the lady wanted, but on the other hand, this was the strategic meeting. It was simply unheard of for a woman to be in the room where the top men in the pack were making decisions about the affairs of the pack. It was an unspoken rule: no women in the strategic room. Even if there was a woman warrior
KARLA'S POV Being served only water for three days didn't make me as weak as I thought, but still, I pretended it was having the intended effect on me. I wouldn't get off the floor when the guards brought the small plastic bottle of water for me. Why they needed two burly guards to bring me a cup of water was still beyond me.Aiden's visit was still fresh on my mind. I closed my eyes the minute I sensed that someone had opened my cell door, and when he turned me to face him, I genuinely thought he was Ace. Thankfully, that confusion didn't last at all. It was over in a few minutes, and I saw him for who he was. After I bluntly told him that I would rather die than take his hand, I thought he would slap me, but he merely reached up to caress a lock of my hair. He wound it across his finger. I braced myself for pain, fully expecting him to rip it clean from my skull, but again, he didn't. He released it and watched the curl bounce against my neck. He did it again."Does Anita know that
