Chapter 5

*Baxter's pov*

I woke up to the news that Monica was nowhere to be found. Her personal maid was the one who had raised the alarm of her disappearance.

I had ordered a search party to go look for her and I was currently pacing around my room waiting for some information.

My blood was boiling with so much rage, I was extremely furious.

"Why did she leave? How did she even escape from here?" I asked myself but I couldn't find any answers to the questions I seek.

Yes I admit that I've been treating her so badly, more worse than anyone deserves to be treated, but this wasn't how I wanted her to leave.

A knock sounded on my door, jolting me back to reality.

"Come in." I ordered and Harry my beta walked in.

"Anything?" I asked.

"No Alpha. There's been no sign of her anywhere, if she's been long gone, then I doubt that there's any hope of finding her."

"Well then keep searching!!" I thundered. "I don't care if you have to move the heavens and the earth just find Monica! I want her back in this palace at any cost. Send some men to the neighboring packs and have them look for her everywhere!" I ordered.

"But we can't just storm their packs without permission." Harry said and I shot him a very dangerous glare.

"You should simply do as you're told Harry, never forget your place. Nobody in their right senses will dare to defy me, and if there be anyone that refuses, I want you to kill them and everything present there."

"I don't care what it is that you have to do, Just find her!"

"Yes Alpha." He bowed before taking his leave.

I ruffled my hair in frustration as I let out a loud roar.

I can't tell what's happening to me, but Monica's disappearance seems to have moved something inside of me and it's only now that I've come to realize the mistake I made.

I've always been aware of her feelings for me, but I paid no attention to it and was simply blinded by my need of getting a child.

There's something about her that always seems to entice me, her smile, her scent. But I never paid attention to any of this things and only hurt her so much, I've caused her so much pain that it shocked me that she's been able to endure all this for two good years.

"Please goddess, help me locate her, I promise to be good to her. I'll give anything to find Monica."

Days ran into weeks and weeks into months, yet there was no sign of Monica. My beta kept on trying to talk me into giving up the search for her but there's no way that I'm going to stop searching for her.

I became so miserable with each passing day that Monica was yet to be found, all I wanted was to find her, that was the most important thing to me.

I didn't give up the search for her, I was more than determined to find her no matter what it takes.

"Alpha." I heard Harry call and I turned to face him.

"What news do you bring?"

"There's still no sign of her anywhere Alpha. We've been searching for months with no luck." He said, the frustration visible in his voice.

"And that's what we'll continue to do until we find her."

"But—"

"You may leave now Harry. I desire to be alone." I cut him off.

I heard him sigh, then he bowed and left.

Not quite long after he left, another guard walked in to announce someone's presence.

"Who is it?"

"The head maid Ruth. She insists there's something you must know.''

"Send her in."

The guard left and Ruth came in a few seconds.

"You request to see me?"

"Yes Alpha. There's something you must know." She said.

I noticed the nervousness on her face and how she was fumbling with the hem of her dress.

"Speak Ruth." I urged.

"I'll love to ask that you pardon me but whatever I did I do not regret." She said, then she raised her head to meet my gaze, all traces of nervousness or fear gone. Rather there was this fierce look on her face.

"What do you mean?"

"It's about Monica."

"Monica!" My heart skipped a beat when I heard a name. "What about her? Do you know where she is?" I asked in excitement.

"I'm afraid I do not know Alpha but eight months ago I was the one who aid her escape."

"What!!?" I said in disbelief.

"Before you carry out your judgment, I'll love for you to please hear me out first Alpha."

"And why should I do that? Give me one good reason I shouldn't slay you where you stand!" I spat.

"Because when you hear what I have to say, you will realize that everything was your fault and I did the right thing at that time." She said, staring deeply into my eyes. Something no one would dare to do.

"I'm only doing this because I've seen the change in you Alpha and I feel this is the right thing despite the fact that it might be too late already."

"We all know how badly you treated Monica. Monica loved you so much Alpha and she always hoped that a day will come when you will change and realize her love for you and reciprocate that love."

"During those hard times and times when all she wanted to do was die, I was the only present for her. To me Monica was like a sister, she was a woman with a pure heart who wanted nothing more than to be treated right for once."

"The day she left was the same day we had both discovered something great and all she wanted was to share that good news with you and hope that you will change, but that wasn't the case because that same day you also revealed your true feelings leaving her shattered and heart broken."

"I I don't understand, what news? What do you mean?" I asked in confusion as everything was becoming too much for me to take in.

"Well Monica she..." She trailed off.

"She what!? Tell me!" I half yelled.

"She was carrying your child and that was what she was going to tell you before hearing your conversation with your beta!"

"What!!"
