-VALEN'S POV-

"Hey man," I could see that he needed rest. "Are you alright?"

Devin gazed at me oddly, "Of course not. I need to get laid."

"I thought that was no longer an issue." I understood his sexual frustration.

"Cheryl complains that I am too rough and she’s being weird." His face saddened. “I know that we have a casual affair but I’d rather she be honest about what’s going on with her than to have me confused.” Hurt inlaid his face. “One minute we are good and fucking like animals and the next, she’s withdrawn.”

“So, what happened last night?” I continued to query him.

His responses were clipped. “We argued. I left and went for a run. I came back. She was crying and refused to tell me why. We argued again. So I went hunting.”

“Is it possible that she’s in love with you?” I noticed the way her swooning smoky eyes wandered to Devin when he wasn’t paying attention.

A reprehensible expression morphed on his face. He repelled the idea. “I vowed never to love any woman. Cheryl

VALEN'S POVExasperation pulsed at my temples, about to give me a deep migraine.I could feel my muscles start to engorge with the hot blood pumping through them. All because Raina refused to acknowledge that he also wanted to be between her legs. Why else would he want to sabotage our relationship? To tell such a lie.“He defected. He tried to create a rift between us. He obviously enjoys us fighting. Do you know how much trouble he might cause? He constantly undermines my authority. If he seeks death, let me give it to him,” I told her as the beast inside me was starting to rise up and out.“You are being unnecessarily difficult. I dealt with it, and you know the truth now. So please, drop this score you feel the need to settle,” Raina pressed, staring into my eyes intently.“And do what? Give him a standard evaluation? How ineffective would that be? He already failed miserably by deceiving me.” I pointed my two thumbs at myself. “Lying to create disputes and false accusations is the

VALEN’S POVSweat ran down my back as the sun scorched us on the training ground. With adrenaline surging in my veins, my heart beat wildly as my focus locked in on the one woman in the world who could make my chest pang. There she was, as if out of a dream. Though this dream turned into a nightmare as she stormed across the grassy field towards me. Her long, burgundy hair, braided down her back, was now across her shoulder, bouncing with her determined stomp. While the power that radiated off my angry mate had everyone shifting uncomfortably, it was her bluebell-cherry scent that toggled at my nostrils, fuddling with my senses and threatening to placate the storm within me.“I'm ensuring the Worgen understands authority and boundaries,” I told her firmly when she stopped in front of me. I’ve been waiting too long for this duel. "I will not have anyone around who wants what is mine!"Raina gaped at me. Her electric blues might as well have turned sangria red when they narrowed to slit

VALEN’S POVThe Warriors began filling the training center field.Their energies spiked as they surrounded us, posturing their intent for combat. Noses wrinkled back. Large canines exposed. Their postures tightened, buzzing with anticipation as their eyes tracked our every movement, and their hands twitched to shoot out claws.Soon, the entire training center yard tensed like beasts coiled and ready to pounce, quiet, lethal, alert, and bracing for my command.“Killing me in front of your pack members might bring you some sort of triumph, but I know Kókkino will see you as a monster. You know it,” Gustav said choppily, his breath rasping against my hand."Raina knows what I am. She knows what I'm capable of when it comes to protecting her." I tightened my grip, unrelenting. My muscles bunched, every sinew straining as the beast inside of me scratched insistently to break free, to crush him.“Then why be so highly strung, drooling your insecurities all over me? Where is that confident,

VALEN’S POV Minutes later…I was about to make some bad decisions.“I can't believe you let them convince you to take me here. Making up with Little Beauty did not mean to come down here and involve this mutt.” Zeus was growling at me for teleporting to the dungeon to unbind the damn crab-louse.On top of that, the pallid vermin sat on the floor in his typical yoga position, glaring at me with that smug smirk like I-told-you-so.“Acting like he's got nuts,” Zeus sneered, the disgust heavy in his tone. “Look at him mocking us.”There is nothing I valued more than Raina's opinion. She didn't want him dead. And yet, I was here to kill him. I had been so focused on bringing Raina out of the trial that I had forgotten all about the niggling detail that they slept together.I forgave her for it. I truly did, but now that she wanted him near her, I seriously could not allow it.A part of me had decided that the next time I came to see him, it would be to render him lifeless. I wanted to pun

RAINA’S POV Thunderstruck.Valen’s cold words stopped my heart and my brain at the same time. We were mere paces apart, but he stared down at me like a piece of gum on the sole of his shoes.I blinked at him. “What…what did you say? Are you accusing me of something?”Valen's throat bobbed. He huffed out a breath before speaking in a voice with forced calm. “Forget it. It doesn't matter, as long as you stay away from him.”“Right. This is not the kind of discussion you have in public.” Devin stepped closer to us, trying to diffuse the situation. “We’re here to strategize, not to let our frustration lead us down a road that we shouldn’t go.”“No-no-no. Repeat your words, Valen,” I demanded, hoping I had misheard every syllable. To think he could accuse me of cheating and then dismiss it without giving me the space to clear things angered me.“Best of luck, buddy,” Devin said, omitting himself from our conversation by going to the sideline.Valen stared at me, working his jaw. “I know,

VALEN’S POVUnobstructed resentment rose inside me.My eyes flicked open, and I released Raina's hands to cross mine over my chest. Our eyes pinned each other in silence.“Nothing, right?” Her brows raised in question. She didn’t blink; she just studied me closely, searching my gaze for a response.I kept my face an impassive mask so that my mate couldn't tell that I had actually picked up on the location.Raina’s brows drooped, and she sighed sadly, turning away from me to pace back and forth. The bond started to feel strained even though we were mere inches apart, only adding to my concern.“Don't keep it away from her,” Zeus warned. “You’re going to make her upset with us.”“I know how this plays out,” I practically snapped at him. "You know who's involved.”A worrying knot wrung in my chest as I watched Raina pace back towards me, looking more stressed. I couldn’t stand seeing her carry all this weight again. Maybe I should go to the temple by myself. I would bring Penn and the st
