Ann’s POV

Jane noticed the change in my expression.

“Who's that?” She asked.

“Jake. He wants me to come home.” I said to her.

“Good timing. I will drop you off.”

We both stood up and were about leaving when Jane suddenly exclaimed,

“Holy shit!”

“What's that?” I asked, looking in the direction she was facing.

“That's my client's husband. I need this evidence for the case. Ann I'm sorry baby but can you take a taxi?” Jane pleaded.

“Of course.” I said because I actually understood.

097Jake's POV I got a call from my lawyer.Ann had signed the divorce papers. My heart sank.I couldn’t believe she had actually done it.For a moment, I simply stared at my phone, wondering if I had heard him correctly. I had expected this day to come, hadn’t I? I was the one who had initiated the divorce. I was the one who had instructed my lawyer to prepare the documents and have them delivered to her.So why did hearing that she had signed them feel like someone had just punched me in the chest?I leaned back in my chair and ran a hand over my face. This was ridiculous.Absolutely ridiculous.I had spent weeks telling myself that finalizing the divorce was the right thing to do. I had convinced myself that Ann and I were better off going our separate ways. I had even imagined what my life would look like once everything was settled.Yet, now that she had finally signed the papers, I couldn’t bring myself to feel relieved.Instead, there was an uncomfortable emptiness in my chest

096Ann's POV I became quiet.I knew exactly what he meant.“Thank you.”“And don’t come here looking like someone attending a funeral. I expect you to come in with a smile.”That made me laugh.“I’ll try my best.”“Good. See you soon.”The call ended, and I found myself smiling at my phone.Louis had a way of making things feel lighter without necessarily pretending that difficult things didn’t exist.I appreciated that about him.I put my phone away and headed out.***I arrived at Jane’s office a little later than I had initially planned. She was already waiting for me when I walked in.The moment she saw me, she raised an eyebrow.“Well, well. Look who finally decided to join the rest of the world.”I laughed.“Good morning to you too.”“Don’t good morning me. Do you have them?”I nodded and brought the documents out of my handbag.“Here.”She collected them and immediately glanced through the first few pages.“Finally!” she exclaimed.I chuckled.“Jane!”“What? I’ve been waiting

  • MERCILESS SEDUCTRESS    CHAPTER 95

095ANN'S POVI took a deep breath and stared at the divorce papers lying on the table in front of me.For several minutes, I simply sat there, unable to move my hand. The pen was right beside the documents, yet picking it up felt like the most difficult thing I had ever done.I knew I had stalled for a while because, deep down, I wasn’t sure I could actually move on.It wasn’t that I didn’t understand what needed to be done. I understood perfectly well that my marriage had reached a point where there was hardly anything left to hold on to.But understanding something and accepting it were two entirely different things.I never imagined that a day would come when I would sit alone in a room, preparing to sign papers that would officially bring my marriage to an end.Marriage was supposed to be a beautiful journey. At least, that was what I had believed when I walked down the aisle five years ago.I had imagined growing old with Jake, building a home together, celebrating little victor

094CHAPTER 94Jake's POVI wondered how much longer I would be able to use that word.My phone vibrated, interrupting my thoughts. It was Sasha.“Yes, Sasha?”“Sir, I wanted to inform you that the team has sent the final documents regarding the contract you secured today. They need your approval before proceeding.”“Send them to my email. I’ll review them shortly.”“Alright, sir. Also, there’s another matter concerning the aspiring partner who recently arrived in Skylander. Would you like me to arrange a meeting?”I paused.“An aspiring partner?”“Yes, sir. The individual has expressed interest in discussing a possible business arrangement with us. I believe it would be beneficial to hear what they have to offer.”“Fine. Arrange something for tomorrow afternoon.”“Certainly, sir.”The call ended.I returned to my desk and opened my laptop.Business was business.I couldn’t allow my personal life to interfere with the company’s progress. At least, I had always believed that. But latel

093CHAPTER 93JAKE'S POVI was happy that I had finally secured the contract from the last meeting I attended. It was a significant deal, one that would undoubtedly benefit the company and strengthen our position in the industry. I had spent weeks working towards it, and seeing everything fall into place should have been enough to put me in an excellent mood. But somehow, my thoughts kept wandering back to Ann.No matter how hard I tried to push her out of my mind, she always found a way back in.It was becoming frustrating.I had a successful meeting, secured a major contract, and had several important things waiting for my attention, yet here I was, sitting in my office and thinking about a woman who had barely spoken to me in weeks. My wife.Or perhaps I should start getting used to calling her my soon-to-be ex-wife.I leaned back in my chair and stared at the ceiling.I knew we had to finalize this divorce so I could move on with my life.Funny how I kept saying that when it ough

092Louis POV “You’re doing it again.”I opened my eyes.Diego was standing beside my chair, watching me with an expression that immediately made me suspicious.“Doing what?”“That thing where you disappear into your own head and pretend the rest of the world doesn’t exist.”“I’m thinking about work.”He laughed.“Of course you are.”I gave him a warning look.“Don’t start.”“Start what? I haven’t said anything.”“You don’t have to. Your face is already saying enough.”He placed a hand over his chest.“That’s a terrible thing to say to a friend.”“Then stop behaving like a nuisance.”He laughed again.I shook my head, gathered the designs, and stood.“Come to my office.”“Gladly.”“That wasn’t an invitation to celebrate.”“Everything is an invitation to celebrate when you’re as charming as I am.”I stared at him.He grinned.I was beginning to understand why his father sometimes looked as though he needed a vacation from his own son.⸻Later, Diego and I were in my office.I had bare
