"Straighten your lines! The alpha is here. " The guard barked out, forcing everyone in the pack hall to stand and form a line.
Betas, warriors, then the lower ranks; the omegas stood behind, eyes lowered to the ground, wanting to dissappear. Sera’s eyes scanned through the line, searching for someone. Her lips curled up when she saw her muse. Lyra. A young plain girl who rushed quietly, joining the lines of the lower ranks, her cracked hands holding her old big dress. The same dress that used to belong to her sister. Her eyes lowered like everyone other else, but the sera gaze had settled on her. Alpha kael walked in proudly like a true king. Like someone who owned a pack.As he walked past his warriors, his higher officials... His eyes landed on her,Lyra. The beta's daughter, the one whose presence irritated him and irked him to the core for no reason. He stopped in front of her. Lyra kept her eyes down, but her hands were squeezing her dress so tightly that kael noticed. He sniffed once. "Still no wolf worth smelling!" Laughter echoed through the lines. Lyra struggled to stand, and keeping her tears at bay felt like a waste of time. This happened every time, she was a subject of mockery in the pack already. A beta's daughter with no wolf. Almost as weak as an omega. But she was treated even worse than them. Sera, her twin sister, stood on the beta's line, confident oozing out of her. She was laughing like everyone else. Not bothering to defend her sister, she looked away as tears fell. When the pack members were dismissed, Lyra rushed out, walking into her home. Her parents were already seated when she softly walked past them, eyes down as if she found something interesting to stare at. "Stop walking like a snail! Make your stupid self useful. Go and make breakfast! " She quickened her pace, entering the kitchen. When she served breakfast,no one said thank you. Lyra walked back into her tiny room at the end of the hallway. The room smelt like strawberries. Small. But hers. She walked into her bathroom to get ready for school. Her parents' house had enough rooms, but she didn't belong, so why should she get a better room. Those words they had told her since she started questioning until her confidence died. Sera’s room was everything, but she wasn't jealous. She just wanted to be treated fairly. Walking into the sitting room,Sera was already dressed, her aura and power, even a blind man, would notice that she was a powerful wolf. The better daughter. The perfect one. She gazed at her torn uniform, and her sandals were too big for her tiny legs. She was a joke. "My daughter," Sera and Lyra looked at their father at the same time. But his eyes were on Sera. Lyra slowly stepped back. Eyes staring outside through the window.Trying to recall what she had studied for today's calculus test, she didn't want to think about what just happened. "Keep your head high as always, make sure they know who you are.And most importantly, stick to the Alpha’s circle." More like clinging to him," Lyra chuckled softly at the thought. "Yes, father, I won't fail you, trust me,I am not Lyra." Lyra breaths hitched. Coldness seemed to fill the spaces between her ribs as she bit her lip. *I am not lyra* The words clung to her like second skin as she walked out of the house. A flashy car drove past, and Sera sat in the passenger seat, taking pictures on her phone. The window whined down when they got closer to her. And splash. Lyra froze. Water dripping down her body."oops, sorry sis, just making sure you took a bath to reduce body odor." She laughed as the car drove away. Then tears, hot tears. She held her socked bag. Already deciding today was not for her,her pace slowed as she got closer to the school. Later, after school, She had managed to avoid trouble today, and she felt relieved. That evening at the training yard, everyone was busy doing their different training when Lyra rushed in panting. She was late for training. And behind her stood Alpha Kael. Eyes scanning her, with disgust. It was a stated rule.Anyone who came late had to be punished. She already knew the punishment. Train twice as hard as anyone else under supervision. But as she bowed slowly, apologizing, "I am sorry.Alpha." Her chuckled. "Did she say something?" He asked, amused, even though he clearly heard her. Sera walked towards alpha kael, with eyes shining with a beta aura. "Sera, this bitch came late." She smirked. "Oh,poor sister. I wouldn't want you training twice. You might just die of exhaustion. " she batted her lashes, pretending to be concerned. Lyra’s jaw tightened. "Just have a fight with the alpha. Let's test waters." Everyone froze. Alpha kael and a weak beta with barely no wolf? Was Lyra asking for death? Before she could refuse, Sera pushed her towards the center handing her a sword. Lyra’s hand winced as she touched the sword, injury from falling the other day making her grip more tightly. Alpha kael stepped forward, swinging his sword and making her land flat in dirt. With bruised cheeks, and a bleeding arm. She tried to stand up. "You cant even dodge a cut! What a worthless piece of shit." He yelled annoyed at how weak she was. She staggered backward. Already recoiling back to the crowd, but Sera was faster, kicking her back into the dirt. "Stay down, that's your punishment. It kind of suits you, wolfless sister." Sera's cruel voice landed a punch in Lyra’s heart. She looked at lyra like a private joke before walking away, following Alpha kael. Everyone went back to what they were doing, ignoring Lyra completely. She sat there wincing in pain, she dared not stand unless she wanted to face her sister's wrath. That night in their house,Lyra stood in the kitchen unable to sleep. Tomorrow is their eighteenth birthday. She wondered what will happen after that. She quietly said the same prayer she had recited everyday. "Moon goddess, please I want a mate, someone that will love me and choose me always." She raised her head slowly to come face to face with Alpha kael. He was conversing with her father down the hallway.Their eyes met but looked away first. His jaw locked. He stared at her as she hurriedly walked into her room. As she sat,her weak wolf stirred, slowly after weeks of shunning her out. She silently prayed "please. Don't let it be him."The next morning, lyra woke up as early as she could.Last night, the head maid had warned her not to wake up late or her work would be double. She folded her small old mat beside the Alpha’s corridor and got up.The alpha rarely came here,so why did she have to clean it every day?But she dared not complain, she walked into the kitchen and with no food, the head maid sent her to her duty post."The warriors are done with their training,go and scrub the training yard."She softly nodded, walking out.She slowly walked into the empty training yard. She gasped, seeing how big the yard was.Her eyes scanned the room, and she froze seeing someone by the end of the other door. The young man from yesterday! He turned to see her, and he softly smiled, watching her frown at him."Hi,we meet again," he spoke, coming close."Hmm,yeah," her meek voice made him chuckle"I don't bite, okay? I am Rowan." He simply said."Okay,my name is -" she hesitated, and he could clearly see she was scared. She imm
The next morning,Lyra stood like the other maids on a straight file. Her legs were still bruised, but no one cared to call the nurse. She lowered her eyes, biting her lips as she wondered what task awaited her.Beta Drake walked towards them, his stern face visible as he saw her."You! Wait behind." She gulped, scared. Beta Drake was a ruthless warrior, and he rarely smiled. She stood still as the other young maids walked out bowing down as they passed him."They are rules you must obey in this palace." She looked up slowly."You are to sleep on the pallet in the alpha’s corridor. You will only eat once in a day!Do you understand? " she stepped back, nodding her head."Words! You answer with words! You are a servant here or nothing at all! Now,to the next rule.." she held back her tears as he finished."The most important rule: never look the alpha in the eye,you will, not use your name, and you must not speak unless spoken to." She replied softly."Yes, beta."He sighed, already feeli
Lyra Vale was dragged out of the prison yard towards the center and roughly pushed to the ground. She knelt in the yard, the rope on her wrist so tight that she was already bruised."A rogue?! I laugh, and she will be dead soon!" A pack woman spoke, and they all broke into laughter,"what a waste of beauty! " A man sadly said they all laughed again."Alpha Thorne won't spare her! He already ordered her death!"She struggled not to cry as she watched them talk about her death. Is this really the end? She quietly questioned the moon goddess. She heard a deep voice from the corridor barking orders, she chuckled sadly, the voice was powerful, like Kael’s. Alpha Thorne walked into the prison in black, unshaven from the road.As soon the pack members saw him, they all bowed down without being told.Beta Drake walked towards the alpha. "This is the rogue, your majesty. She has no scent. " Drake paused,he really pitied the girl.He shook his head and continued. "She crossed the marked sign, plead
Fear gripped Lyra as she walked past the border, wiping her tears. She held the small bag of stale bread and the clothes that Luna Elaine had given her. With one last word,"Don't let them be right about you." What did that even mean? Everyone is right. She is weak, wolfless, and now packless. She sobbed quietly as she continued to walk through the thick forest, legs shaking, but she kept walking. Back at Cornerstone Pack.. Sera and Alpha Kael sat on the bed as he held her closer. "You did just what I wanted, she is out of our lives!"She caressed his cheek as he pulled her closer, kissing her roughly. "Good riddance to bad rubbish, now I have you all to myself," she chuckled contentedly, unbuttoning his shirt as he began kissing her neck. Moaning softly into the night, their clothes soon sprawl all over the floor. She felt on top of the word, she had everything now. Lyra, on the other hand, could barely feel her wolf. The little strength left on her could only take a mile from the b
The next day, the news had spread across the entire pack, and the hall was filled with people. Murmurs and whispers spread through the crowd as Lyra was dragged inside. She was roughly thrown to the floor, wincing as she felt a sharp pain down her rib. Everyone laughed as she was dumped on the ground. She chocked on her tears as she lowered her head slowly as their stares were already getting unbearable. She was innocent, but who would believe her?no one believes the weak one.First, her parent. Now, the entire pack gets to believe her sister, over her, who was saying the truth.what hurt her the most was not the lie,it was the fact that it was her own blood twin sister who would do this to her.Everyone one in the kingdom knew of the pack laws;one of them, which clearly states that thieves caught, are banished immediately. She didn't want to accept that as her fate! No,where would she go?Her thoughts were disrupted as the alpha king kael walked into the hall, followed closely by her
Lyra walked into the house, and she looked around. The hallway was empty, good. She quickened her pace and soon got to Sera's room, she opened it slowly. Determined to take the necklace, she barely noticed the sky had changed, and it would soon rain. As she searched for it,her heart beat quickened as she heard footsteps. When the sounds got faint, she would be relieved again. She searched all the drawers in Sera's large room that was ten times larger than hers and furnished. Silver polished, sparkling clean. It smelt expensive, and she felt lightheaded, but she didn't want to think about it. Her sister had this room to herself while she lived like a slave. Her hands touched something metallic, and she froze. She had found the necklace. With a smile on her gorgeous face, she quickly brought it out.its golden polished color was decorated with silver chains. The necklace was really beautiful and truly looked expensive. "What are you doing in my room?" The voice she heard made he
