MISTRESS OF DARKNESS
MISTRESS OF DARKNESS
Author: Luna

Prologue

Billions of people live in this world, but not everyone is deserving enough of the lives they have. Some of them are useless and only think about their fun. They don't care how others feel or if they get hurt. What matters to them is what gives them pleasure, and satisfaction. They only care about what quenches their thirst.

Humans are the worst.

They fear reaching a tipping point—a point of no return. They have blundered into compound wickedness. They struggle to learn the truth while also coping with their secular prejudices. They can also fall into enormous evil, made worse by their community allegiances. They do stupid things whose dangerous outcomes can never be undone.

"Oh fuck! Yeah! Harder, baby, uhhh!"

A sly smile formed on my lips when I heard loud moans inside the room that I was about to raid. I tightened my grip on my gun as I leaned against the door; I could still hear their bodies, the creaking of the bed, and their moans and obscenities. They're in the middle of savoring the ecstatic feeling of sex, and here I am, staring at the door lock, already plotting my next step.

"Ahh! You're so good!"

I immediately opened the door lock within ten seconds using my hands, which are wearing black hand gloves, still clutching the knob. I slowly opened it, my face remained impassive, and walked in, pointing my gun at the man who had just done a deep thrust to his wh*re, she was now gripping the bedsheet and screaming in pleasure.

"Hands up! Don't ever make a move." They were both roused from their lust lands as they both turned their heads in my way. Both were drenched in perspiration and struggling to regain their breath. The lady flinched and swiftly pulled herself up; I can see her trembling in panic as the man, who had been looking at me with dull eyes, slowly adjusts himself. My eyes welled up with tears, but I tried my best to keep them back and stay cool, stern, and emotionless in front of him. After this day swears to heaven, I will never be this fragile again. Fuck useless men who only think about the pleasure of their d*ck.

"Cheater," I mouthed as I watched the woman flee for her life. I was left inside with the man, and I am going to kill him after what I witnessed.

"Are you just going to stand there and watch me, Avery? Leave my room."

"I won't leave here until I see your body on the floor, cold and covered with your blood, Panther." He smirked at me as he wore his shirt in front of me.

"C'mon, Avery, that was just sex. Well, that was something you couldn't give. And oh please, I know you can't kill me, you are police even just pointing that gun of yours at a civilian is against your oath, we both know that." I gritted my teeth losing my patience with this douchebag. I can't believe I just had an idiot boyfriend well not anymore because I'm done, and I am breaking up with him!

"Not because I can't give that to you; you have the right to do it with a freaking whore, Panther! I am now breaking up with you. Just damn you and your stupid d*ck! You are fucking shameless cheater!"

"Hey! What the fuck did you just say!?" he was about to get near me with his jaw moving so hard, clearly enraged at me after insulting his fucking manhood. But I don't care and I'm not afraid if he gets angry.

"I said fuck you and your stupid d*ck! I can't believe you have two heads but none of them has any intelligence!" After I said that, I pointed my gun near his feet and pulled the trigger, making him jump in shock.

"Damn you! Bitch!" he hissed, but I didn't respond and left the room immediately after raising my middle finger to him. Now I know the reason why there is a middle finger. Perhaps it was made for those who deserved it.

With my head held high and straight back and leveled shoulders. I walk through the hallway, as I put back my gun, and fixed my police uniform as if it was dirty. Well, I came from a contaminated room that reeks of bacteria. Maybe I should take a shower after leaving here. I was about to agree with what a part of my mind said, but that was also stopped when I received a call from my superior.

"We have a lead. Make a move now and arrest him." I nodded and immediately contacted my boys. We are going to arrest an elusive criminal. He is the leader of a syndicate that the authorities have been looking for for three years. Now we have a lead. I was assigned to get him. I'm not going to let him go now that I'm angry. I need something to divert my rage; no longer to a civilian.

I prepared myself before heading to our target location. I have armed in case something happened. My work is full of uncertainty anyway, and my safety isn't promised.

Funny. I was saving the city, but who will save me? Never mind. I can save myself; I don't have to rely on anyone. We moved discreetly to the location where we can find the target. It was too quiet. We moved quickly and in silence when we entered the house, which I was sure was one of the hideouts of our target. I felt weird. Something's strange with the silence. This is not the kind of silence that is safe; it is the kind of silence that screams danger.

I turned to my other companions and motioned for them to enter. I followed them and changed routes in the hopes of finding our target, who may be lurking here somewhere, but after a few more minutes, we could not see any trace of him. The entire property is spotless; there is no evidence that anyone has slept there, even in the kitchen, and the utensils show no indications of usage. Could this just be a... I couldn't think any longer and dashed out of the kitchen.

I hadn't gone far when I heard the sound of a clock. I stopped and shook my head slightly to listen to it carefully. At first, it seems like just a normal clock chime. But as time goes on, just like the beating of my heart that I can already hear, it becomes clearer to me what the thing is hearing.

"This was all a trap! Everyone! Move! Leave the house!" I screamed and even turned on my radio device to connect to them. We quickly left that house and each got into our car. I was using my camouflage Mustang as I got away, not that far from the house, and immediately stopped, I got out of my car a little, and turned in the direction of the house. I counted ten seconds until I heard a tremendous explosion.

Fuck. It's just really a fucking trap. I shook my head and called my boss to inform him of the bad news that it had all been a trap and that our target was still brazenly wandering around the city. We hurriedly left the location, empty-handed.

After duty, I went straight to my condo. It was seven o'clock in the evening, and I had just ordered dinner for myself. I'm too tired to cook and I'm alone here, I don't have to exert much effort for that. I removed my top uniform upon entering, leaving me in my cargo pants and black sleeveless shirt. I also took off my cap and let my braided hair hang loose. I placed my car key on my tiny table then I picked up the food that I put down first and carried it to the kitchen. I took a can of beer from the refrigerator before sitting down and preparing the meal I had brought.

Panther came back to my memory, I just shook my head and took a sip of the beer I was holding. After that, I took a big bite of the chicken and leaned back on the chair before continuing to chew while staring at the ceiling. I was in that state when I heard a crash on the balcony of my room. I didn't pay attention to it, but the second I heard the crash, I put down the beer I was holding, I also put down my legs placed on the seat and stood up. I took the gun that was placed on my back and immediately carefully walked toward the room. I hold the doorknob of my room and gently turn it while my other hand is still holding a gun.

When I opened it, I sneaked a peek. My room was dark, and my curtain was not drawn, so no light from the moon came in. I searched for the switch on the side and pressed it, so the lights in my room turned on immediately. I prepared for it and pointed the gun in different directions in my room, but I didn't see anything. I also opened the curtain to look at my window and the balcony, but I didn't see anything. I must be tired and paranoid that I'm hearing things that don't exist. I put the gun back behind me and left the room to go back to the kitchen, but just as I was leaving the room, someone suddenly covered my head with something and quickly covered my mouth and nose with a handkerchief, and it was not an ordinary handkerchief; I smelled something from it. I also felt something on my neck; it hurts a bit. If I'm not mistaken, it was a syringe that they injected me with something, so when I was about to fight, I couldn't do it because I suddenly became weak and felt as if something was flowing through my blood, causing me to be unable to move.

My entire body is suspended; it's burning, and I feel like I'm being strangled. I can hear my heartbeat thumping so loudly, but it is getting slower. I couldn't escape the excruciating pain that seemed like it was gnawing at my bones. Someone has already freed me, but I still can't breathe properly, even though my head is no longer covered. I became so completely paralyzed that I couldn't even open my eyes to see these cretins conversing while I was suffering. The person holding me let go, and I felt like I was going to fall to the floor. It's painful. I felt a sharp pain in my head as soon as I fell. I almost went unconscious. I can feel the hellish sensation like I was being burned and tortured.

"Next morning, it will be reported that one of their most trusted police officers is corrupt and a drug addict. That is what the heroic individuals who battled against the boss have been blessed with."

"Would she die?" I heard another voice, but I was coughing so hard that I could feel my blood oozing from my mouth.

"She will. She'll die being overdosed. She will not survive."

"Why don't we just shoot it to be sure?"

"It would be better if they will think that she took drugs and overdosed herself. She won't live. Let's go. Someone might come and we'll be caught." I heard their footsteps, and I can't do anything to save myself.

I said I could save myself, but with this looming over the rest of my sanity, I'm reaching out to anybody for help. Even if I can't speak using my mouth, my mind is so loud, screaming and asking for help making promises that I'll do better when I live after this night. But who am I fooling? No one can save me. I'll die.

All the happy events of my life started to come back to my memory. When my family was whole, the laugh of my brother, the voice of my father—I can feel myself crying despite the excruciating pain. I miss my family, but they're gone. Can I be with them now? But I can't disappear yet; I must still get justice for them and myself. I still want to live. I tried to fight, but my life seemed to be slowly slipping away from me.

"Poor creature, unable to protect herself. That's why I don't want to live as a lowly human like you; you can't survive alone. You are all stupid and weak."

Before I could finally let out my last breath and pass out. I heard a voice. A very deep and blood-curdling voice that seemed to come from the depths of the earth. At the same time, I felt as if two sharp and scalding objects had sunk into my neck taking my life away.

This night. . . I made you mine. I bestowed you power and immortality. I am now your god, and you'll serve me forever, Avery Raven.
