The siren wailed as the ambulance raced through the city. I sat inside, clutching Jayden’s hand so tightly it felt like if I let go, I’d lose him forever. Tears rolled down my cheeks, blinding me. His face was pale, his lips bruised, his chest rising and falling in shallow breaths.

“God, please don’t take him from me,” I whispered through sobs. “Please let him live… please…”

The paramedics shouted things I couldn’t understand. It was all noise. The only thing clear was the weight of Jayden’s hand in mine, the faint warmth reminding me he was still here, still fighting.

When the ambulance screeched to a halt at the hospital, chaos followed. The back doors flew open and a stretcher was pulled in.

“Careful! One, two, three!” The paramedics lifted Jayden onto the stretcher.

“No… no…” My heart screamed as his hand slipped away from mine. The emptiness was instant. I stood frozen, my feet glued to the floor, watching them wheel him away. It felt like watching my soul being dragged down a da

Donald stared at me, his eyes wide open and his jaw dropped, while he held his cheek. The red mark of my slap burned against his skin, but it was nothing compared to the sting I felt inside my chest."Go on! Go jump into the road. What's stopping you from doing so?" My voice shook, high and shrill, the anger and pain spilling out of me like fire. His lips parted in disbelief. "Monalisa?" he whispered, his voice raw, like I had stabbed him straight in the heart."Do it!" I yelled, my hands trembling, my whole body shaking. "Since you want me dead… go ahead and die!! How could you say such a thing, Donald!! How could you!" My tears blurred his face as I screamed, and all I saw was the shadow of my best friend breaking before me."Monalisa… I’m...""Enough!" I cut him off, lifting my hand as if the sound of his voice was a knife to my skin. "Not another word!"My chest heaved. I bent forward, trying to breathe, but the weight on my chest was crushing me. My vision spun. The tears wouldn’

We arrived at the hospital, and before the car could even come to a complete stop, I threw the door open and jumped out. My legs carried me faster than my mind could process. My chest burned, but I didn’t care. My only thought was Jayden.I pushed through the hallways, bumping into people without saying a word. When I reached the surgery room, my heart sank. The room was empty. Cold. Silent.“No… no, where is he?” my voice trembled as I whispered to myself.I spun around and rushed back to the reception desk, my palms sweaty, my knees almost giving out.“Please,” I panted, leaning on the counter. “Jayden… the patient that was brought in after the accident. Where is he?”The nurse, calm as ever, looked at the chart and then back at me. “He’s been moved to a private ward.”I didn’t even let her finish before I whispered a shaky “Thank you” and bolted toward the hallway she pointed.Behind me, Donald and Tricia finally caught up, their footsteps echoing in the corridor. My heart was raci

It had been one of those days that made my head pound. Meetings back-to-back. No time to breathe. I had been in and out of the factory, checking the production for our new designs, then rushing to the design department to review the fresh concepts they’d been working on. Every conversation felt like a clock ticking louder in my head. I didn’t even realize the time run so fast. My stomach twisted in protest, reminding me I hadn’t eaten. My phone began to ring and ring again, vibrating against my desk like it was about to burst. The moment I saw the caller ID, my heart skipped and then slammed against my ribs. Jayden. I didn’t think. I just grabbed my bag, almost knocking my chair over, and rushed out. "Hello Jayden, I’ll be with you shortly. Thank you," I said breathlessly into the phone as I hurried down the hall. I practically leapt into the elevator. My heels tapped restlessly against the floor as if they could make the slow box move faster. Each floor felt like a year pa

After a long, soothing evening bath, I changed into a cute nightgown and headed to the kitchen. The cool tiles felt good under my bare feet. I grabbed a bottle of orange juice from the fridge, the condensation slick against my palm, and poured a generous amount into a glass. As I savored the tangy sweetness of the juice, scrolling mindlessly through my phone, a message popped up, halting my thumb mid-swipe. My heart did a little flutter, anticipating something good, but that feeling vanished as soon as I read it."I warned you not to meet with him, but you didn't listen. Now watch and see what happens to those who do not listen."A shiver traced its way down my spine, raising goosebumps on my arms. I reread the message, trying to decipher its meaning. Was it a threat? A warning? My stomach churned with unease. After a forced, lighthearted chat with everyone, trying to mask the growing anxiety gnawing at me, I retreated to my bedroom. I adjusted the duvet, smoothing out the wrinkles, a

I arrived at the restaurant where I was supposed to meet Jayden. The moment my hand touched the door handle, a wave of anxious heat brushed over my skin, making me stop right there. My breath came quicker, and my chest felt tight, as if my heart was knocking hard to be let out.For a moment, I closed my eyes and took in a slow, deep breath."You can do this," I whispered to myself, trying to swallow the lump in my throat. Then I pushed the door open. The place smelled like coffee and fresh bread, warm and inviting, yet my stomach churned with nerves. My eyes scanned the room until they landed on him, Jayden James Bruno, sitting at a corner table, one hand resting on the table, the other scrolling on his phone like he had no care in the world."There he is… living his best life," I muttered under my breath, rolling my eyes. My heels clicked softly against the floor as I walked toward him."If it isn’t Mister Jayden James Bruno," I said, letting my voice drip with sarcasm. He looked up,
