I quickly held Tricia’s hand and pulled her back before she could take another step forward.

“You are not allowed to murder someone in my house,” I said, my voice shaking but firm.

Tricia’s chest rose and fell like she was fighting a storm inside her. Her eyes were wild, burning with anger.

“I’m sorry but she isn’t a human but a demon,” she screamed, pointing at Cynthia. “I need to perform exorcism on her. She is a demon.”

Cynthia laughed slowly, folding her arms like none of this touched her.

“I’m proud to be one,” she scoffed, lifting her chin.

That was it. I grabbed Tricia’s hand tighter.

“Please come along,” I said quickly.

She was still ranting as I dragged her away, her slippers scraping the floor. Donald followed behind us without saying a word. His face was tense, his jaw tight.

We got to the poolside. The night air hit us, cool and sharp, but it did nothing to calm Tricia down.

“Why is she in the house?” Tricia snapped, turning to face me. “You need to drag that bitch out.”
