CHAPTER 4

Aria

It was morning and I was now feeling better than ever. I stared at my arms and could not believe the markings had disappeared. I hurried to the mirror, and what I saw was even more surprising.

"Do not tell me you are startled," Catherine murmured as she entered.

"No, it is simply that I do not normally look this wonderful," I said, maybe in agony.

"Well, it is the result of your awakening powers and the ointment I put on you," she said.

"Okay, what do you want me to do around here? I mean, I might be of tremendous service, perhaps cooking, cleaning, or even—"

"No, you are not going to do any of that; your people have been waiting for years, and we can not delay your coming any longer," she said, and I had no idea what she meant.

People?

I only prayed she was not asking me to return to Nightshade. "You know what happens to those who disrupt the moon Goddess' intentions," she replied, and I was still gazing at her perplexed.

"Will you let me —”

"Put this on, we need to go,” she said, throwing some clothes at me. I hurriedly pulled on the shirt and jeans before retrieving the shoes she had left at the entrance.

"Where are we going?” I asked as I followed behind.

"You'll find out soon,” she responded and kept walking.

We arrived at our destination in a pack that resembled the ones from the bedtime tales my mother used to tell me when I was a kid. Its surface sent an unidentified tremor at every angle, and I could hear its trees whispering in a language that had been forgotten for years.

It was as though someone was observing me and my magic was able to identify the surroundings. While I was engaged in researching the surroundings, Catherine was only interested in wherever she was taking me.

“Where are we?" I whispered.

“Duskrend," she replied.

How did I even come this far? The idea of at least being protected gave me hope even if I could not believe what I was seeing. There was mist and a ring of cliffs around this location. Since none of its Luna links have survived, it is cursed and kept secret from future generations.

Even the moon Goddess is reported to have abandoned them. I noticed that I was seeing dozens of wolves with various expressions. Some were terrified, others hollow-eyed and cautious. But I could tell none was scared of me.

“Why are they staring at me like that?" I asked Catherine as it felt like they were ready to tear me apart.

“They don’t trust outsiders,” Catherine muttered.

“But you'll get comfortable soon so don't worry."

The wind shifted.

And I looked in a direction I probably shouldn't have. My eyes fell on him.

Alpha Zion Hurricane.

Tall and fortress-like, with eyes as black, inscrutable, and full of hidden fire as the storm itself. Even though his presence required stillness, I did not sense authority in the way he stared at me. It was recognition.

White stirred inside me, her ears perking.

“What are you doing?" I asked White.

“That scent,” she whispered. “Why does he smell like Moonfire?”

I did not notice Zion standing in front of me since I was too preoccupied with talking to White about her attempt to misbehave.

“Alpha," Catherine said clearing her throat before pinching me

Before he ordered me to lift my head, I swiftly bent it. I then kept my eyes down while Catherine informed him about me and begged if I might remain.

Zion didn’t respond at first. He just looked at me like he was removing the few remaining layers. Then he remarked in a voice as quiet as distant thunder.

“You can stay. But keep your magic to yourself.”

I nodded, unsure why his words struck something in me. Not anger. Not fear. Something perilously near consciousness, something I had not experienced since Claus.

"Thank you," I said in a raspy voice.

On the brink of the cliffs, Catherine showed me a tiny hut. A place of solitude, but not despair. It peered down over the mist-choked valley with the twisted, ghostly trees.

“This is yours now,” she said. “You’ll be safe here. For now.”

I sat at the window that night and watched the moon strive to break through the shroud. White was restless inside me, pacing.

“He’s different,” she said, referring to Zion.

“I know.”

“His wolf... it called to me.”

“Don’t say that,” I whispered. “We can’t do this again. We won’t.”

However, I was unable to ignore my feelings. The way my spirit had silenced when Zion appeared. The pack gazed at him with faith rather than terror as they adored and respected him. He bore their weight, and now I found myself in their storm.

Jordan, Zion's younger brother, and I met him the next day. A seer, they said. But he felt more like the Moon’s forgotten child to me.

“Aria Knight fate's chosen portion. I knew you were not far when the sign was given," he said and I was so confused.

"Uhmm sorry, is there something I don't know about?” I asked hoping to get clarity.

“You’re not here by accident,” he told me as we walked through the half-dead orchard. “This place—this curse—it’s been waiting for you.”

What?!

“I didn’t come here to fix a pack,” I snapped. “I came here to survive I don't mean to be disrespectful but maybe —”

Jordan only smiled. “Sometimes survival is the beginning of healing. You’ll see.”

That sounded like something I thought would be buried in the excuse of surviving.

Since healing wasn’t easy. Especially not when the darkness still clung to me. Especially not when the scar of my severed bond still burned beneath my skin. Catherine warned me that something had followed me into Duskrend. Something ancient. Hungry. Watching.

“You drew Eryx’s gaze, girl,” she said once while placing protective wards around my cabin. “That thing feeds on broken bonds like yours. He’ll send whispers. Dreams. Worse.”

And he did.

That night, I dreamed of Claus.

Of blood. Of the obsidian blade. Eryx's voice slithered through my consciousness, donning Claus's face and speaking things I wished to forget.

But when I woke, the air was different.

Pine, Earth, and Wind.

I smelled him before I saw him.

Zion.

He stood outside with crossed arms. His wolf's presence was both dominating and real. Without saying anything, his eyes were fixed on the moon.

And for a moment, I wasn’t afraid.

I opened the door with confidence causing him to turn

The quiet between us seemed louder than any shout.

"You should be careful with your dreams," he continued without looking at me.

“You saw them?” I asked with shock

“Felt them,” he responded.

He paused. Then she said, "Your wolf... she called mine."

My breath caught. White howled softly within me.

“I don’t want this,” I said.

“Neither do I,” he said but his eyes said otherwise.

But the connection did not matter what we sought. It pulsed between us—unspoken, raw, and real. And under the shattered moon, Zion muttered a name I had not expected to hear from anybody.

“Moonfire.”

CHAPTER 225 Aria “Pa…pa…pa,” I heard Salt saying in the cradle when I stopped folding the clothes and then decided to listen. “Pa…pa,” he said again this time loud and clear. I placed the shirt I was folding on the bed and went to sit beside the cradle. “Pa…pa,” he smiled and I just couldn't stop myself from getting emotional. "It's momma sweetie. Your papa has gone to work. I can't believe you are learning how to speak so fast, good boy,” I said, lifting him into the air. “Good morning," Lora said before she walked in with a tray that had my breakfast on it. “Good morning Lora. You didn't have to get that,” I said as she placed the tray on the table. “Come on my Queen. I still love doing this," she smiled before taking Salt who just couldn't stop smiling at her. “I don't trust the way he's looking at you. Isn't that flirting?" I asked Lora. “Goodness that would be absolutely beautiful. Nothing feels greater than knowing the crowned prince is eyeing me right little one?" Lo

CHAPTER 224 Zion “I…I would like to say thank you for everything you've done for Bruno and me over this short period,” she started. "Nia, you're like family now and the way you love my son is nothing compared to anything I've done for you two,” I answered. She and Bruno have played a very big role in being there for Aria and me throughout the rough patch. They provided counseling when we needed it and spent sleepless nights looking after us. Nia played the motherly role for Salt while Aria was still getting over the loss of our children daily. It wasn't easy but they were there for us. Nia was just an innocent soul; she had nothing but love and kindness to offer. Bruno found himself a mate who would be there for him no matter what. Nia made her way out of the office when Derrick walked in with a pale face. That wasn't like him so I asked what had happened when he told me that someone had slapped him. “What do you mean you were slapped?" I asked, looking at him with disbelief.

CHAPTER 223 Zion [One month later ] Things have gotten back to normal and Aria is bonding with Salt so well. Derrick, Bruno, and I had gone fishing while Aria and Nia were busy preparing the food back at the palace. It had been days since this kind of peace had located us. We were so happy that all evil had faded. We placed the net in the river and then waited for a few minutes before pulling it out only to find that it was empty. “I thought the fish were scared of the King's too. Could it be that they don't know we're fishing with the King?” Derrick asked while Bruno and I just laughed. “You play too much. Will there be a time you get serious?" Bruno replied. “I need to send him to an active battle so that some seriousness gets into him." "I don't even know how to fight yet. That would definitely be a bad idea. Are you trying to get rid of me?” "No. You know that's impossible right?” I asked before something heavy pushed our boat. We all looked at each other with shock be

  • MOONBOUND: LOVE BEYOND THE BOND    CHAPTER 0222

CHAPTER 222 Aria I was now discharged from the hospital on the hardest day of my life. It was the burial day of my children. After taking my bags home Zion and I headed to the graveyard. There the entire Pack had gathered to lay my children to rest. I was breaking, yet I tried my best to stay strong. The moment those little coffins were taken out of the car a cold tear ran down my face as the memories of how we used to be started playing in my head. The way they would smile at me every time I greeted and also hold tight to my shirt was just crazy. I knew I would be missing all that. “It's OK, let it out," Nia whispered while I tried to hold back my tears but they kept falling. The coffins were being lowered and I couldn't help but start crying. This time rawly. I was pained at the loss of my babies. I never expected them to leave at such an early stage. The burial finished, and everyone made their way back home, but I chose to remain. I had to say my goodbyes to my children.

CHAPTER 221 Aria “My Queen," I heard Nia shout from upstairs when I rushed to ascend the stairs, only to find Brave, Bryant, and Nicholas soaking in blood coming out of both the nose and mouth. “What the hell is going on here?" I asked, feeling their heartbeat, but nothing was there. “No this can't be. No!" I said about to throw myself to the floor when one of the guards caught me. My entire world froze and I didn't even know what to do. “My children! My children are dead !" I screamed, roughly moving their hands with the hope of hearing their little cries, but silence was all they gave me. My heart was breaking to its core and I could see my entire world crumbling down. I couldn't imagine my life without my children. I kept screaming as though something bad was about to swallow me whole. The entire Palace went mute, and everyone came to see what was happening, only to find the three lifeless bodies of my children lying next to me. I couldn't take it. I couldn't even manage

  • MOONBOUND: LOVE BEYOND THE BOND    CHAPTER 0220

CHAPTER 220 Aria I couldn't tell Nia how happy I was that she turned out to be Bruno's mate. After everything that had happened in Bruno's life, he deserved a woman with inner beauty like Nia. I could tell she was scared that I was not going to like it but I did. I knew Bruno was just scared to admit how he felt about Nia. I used to see how much they bonded, but didn't want to overthink it, but now that the Goddess has exposed their love, I am happy. I made my way back to our bedroom where Zion was sleeping on the couch and the babies in their cradles. The room was so quiet and a weird darkness was coming from the balcony. I went to check what it was when I found that the entire Pack was covered by a dim light. This wasn't one from the moon itself but a cold part of it. My heart pounded fast as I still didn't get what was going on though I knew that it meant something bad was coming. I went back inside and took a seat on the bed before Zion sat upright. He looked at me and the
