Chapter 6

Lucas Elizalde watched with a meek appearance as he observed the members of the People's Progressive Party, walk their way into the boardroom.

He felt intimidated and a hesitant expression did not fail to write all over his face.

Many dignataries walked in and he noticed how each of them did so with pride and confidence seeping through their shoulders.

Their suits were finely cut, perfect definitions of their high societal status.

They were the cabals, the leaders. They were the future makers of Montenegro. That was why they had been able to retain power in their political party for 20 years now and counting.

Lucas watched as Theodore walked in , with his father, his father in-law walking closely behind him.

They took their seats and all the other members of the party present did not fail to mutter at the way Theodore showed off himself with a heavy cologne.

He came to where Lucas was , even though there was a chair beside him, Lucas stood and made way by standing up for him to sit down on the chair he sat on.

Lucas had to find another chair away from where he sat as he knew sitting close to his brother in law would be one of his main undoings.

"I nominate Claude Wilde to be the Governorship flag bearer of our political party. Theodore's tenure is slowly coming to and end,Claude is the ideal person that'd lead this party forward" Don Mella cleared his throat and muttered, voice laced with apprehension and disdain.

Montenegro shot him an angry stare. He hated him. He had tried devising several means of expulsing him from the party but couldn't because he was one of the founders of the group.

He hated how Montenegro and his son had been ruling since the founding of their party and Montenegro hated that he questioned him, even though he was the founding father of the party name.

Don Mella looked at him with hot eyes too. He knew that he knew about his hate and he never cared to hide it. He was one of the antagonists of the Montenegro Family continuing to rule Montenegro. He hated how they were retaining power in their family even though there were other candidates in line waiting to be given a chance to lead and do his biddings.

"Harrison Montenegro my son has been abroad for years now studying Political Science, he has less than half a year to be done, I can make up things while we await his return. When he returns, we'd nominate him as the flag bearer" Theodore put in, hating the fact that Don Mella was butting in to destroy his plans.

Montenegro was angry. He stared at his son and his ignorance. How dare he say such personal plans in the midst of people I'd the board , even those that hated them. He tried his possible best to comport and hide his anger.

" So we should wait till your son returns from schooling before our party chooses a flag bearer?" A lady fired.

" What do you take us for? Your employees? What do you take the people of Montenegro for?" Came another voice from an angle.

" Your family should not be allowed to rule Montenegro again! Since the founding of the People's Progressive Party, your family has ruled for 29years now, it's time power shifted! We're not waiting for your son! " Came another.

"Who knows if the son is not like the father! You've been arrested severally for a number of crimes, who knows whether your son is not a drug addict abroad? " Came Madame Flo's words.

Her words seemed to touch hidden places.

"Shut up!! Who do you think you are?! Don't you dare mention my grandson nor allege him a drug addict! I'll sue you!! I'll end you!! " Montenegro threatened.

Lucas continued to observe as the tensed boardroom got divided into two.

He dared not interfere.

He was already lucky enough to be included in the party by his father in law who brought him in as his personal lawyer.

Apart from that, he had no business with their political plays.

He was just there to observe those that traded words with his father in law and to come up with the best legal means to end the person- for his grandfather ofcourse.

Minutes passed since the room had been conflict that had ensued amongst the members of the party.

Everyone had been voicing out their thoughts at the same time, and without minding to hear what the other was saying.

But soon enough, the noise was subdued by a stilled silence that resonated through out the room.

Mr Sinclair had walked in.

His heavy cologne had called attention and it had made the oppositions stop to notice his arrival.

Montenegro looked at him and shared glances with his son Theodore, and then an angry cast at his body guard Lukman who stood less than a meter away from where he sat.

Lukman took his gaze off his boss who stared at him. A terrified expression was on his face. He was done for and he could tell it. He had failed to kik him like he had been instructed to. He had failed to Kill Me Sinclair.

"It's surprising that you're alive Sinclair, none from the party heard anything from you, for close to five years. I'm surprised you remembered us now" Montenegro mockingly says, to ease the tension and silence his arrival had created.

"Some people wanted me dead four years ago, perhaps because I opposed their candidates......." Sinclair begins and chuckles. The members turned to look in Montenegro's direction when he mentioned this.

Sinclair was the only one that opposed Theodore's re-election as the governor five years ago, it wouldn't be a coincidence that Montenegro had a hand in his disappearance.

"I was even arrested and guarded by numerous police when I was on my sickbed, I was accused of all manners of crime and corruption, but look at me now. I'm a free man!! " He ended, showing off himself.

" You were accused of different charges of corruption, we can't let you back into the party, you'd dent our public image!! We can't afford that now that the elections is at hand! " A woman fired at him.

Sinclair smiled and beckoned unto his assistant that stood behind him.

" Seems like you lots don't listen to the news anymore"

He motioned to his assistant who went ahead to play the news that was on the front page of the iPad he held.

" Breaking News On Business Posts this week. Multi-millionaire Businessman, Mr Sinclair, who was detained after his recuperation from coma 5 years ago has been found innocent of all the charges he was accused of.

Evidence that was dropped by an anonymous person this week contained pieces of how he was innocent and wrongly accused of corruption by opponents who went after him for not supporting their supposed candidates five years ago.

Being found innocent, his frozen bank cards and businesses have all being reopened. The court is ready to find and punish those that caused his unlawful detention"

He ended it by pausing and went back to where he stood before.

Sinclair, sensing the shift in dynamics, continued with a calm yet assertive tone. "As you all can see, I have been cleared of all charges. I have no intentions of tarnishing anyone's image. But I do believe in accountability and transparency within our party, and that is the reason why I believe we all need to support Lucas Elizalde, Montenegro's son in law,as the new flag bearer of our party!!."

The room went up in a frenzy and an uproar. Lucas himself was surprised, yet kept calm but did not hide the surprised look on his face, before his father in law would accuse him of conniving with his enemy.

Sinclair's last statement made Montenegro curious.

He had made sure to end him five years ago. He was sure he did. Not just did he ask Lukman to attack his convoy then, he had also made sure he destroyed all the businesses he owned, and now he was nominating his son in law.

Someone was backing him he thought, but who was the person who dared to dare him by supporting him.

He owned the whole of Montenegro, who would dare.
