Chapter 9

EARLIER THAT DAY

Nathaniel walked down the road as he trekked to his place of work, The Elizalde law firm.

Sipping his coffee while carrying his laptop with his other hand in his bag, he couldn't help but think of how Morgana would be most elated when she finally learns that they have an upper hand in the case they were pursuing.

He had chosen working at the Elizalde Law Firm not because of how much he was paid but because it belonged to the Montenegro's son in law, in the few months he had worked there after his graduation, he had learnt about many of the illegal cases his boss, Lucas Elizalde did for his father in law and he had evidences of them.

If Morgana's case against the governor wasn't enough to put him in jail, he had other cards he could use and sue him.

His suit was perfectly cut, though it wasn't of the finest materials, it suited someone of his status who was just finding his feet after graduation, to find for he and Morgana like he always put it.

He was the son of Don Antonio, though it had been ages since he visited his father nor called him to ask for help.

After being taken to the orphanage like he had requested from him when he was a little boy, he had severed all ties with him then. Afterall he never came to see him for once. He only sent some of his servants to occasionally check on him at the orphanage, perhaps he had other children somewhere. He was a cheat even before his mother left them and ran away afterall.

Working at the Elizalde Law Firm was also to be able to take care of Morgana, marrying her and taking her out of the orphanage.

They would have beautiful children who would take after her. And perhaps, she might become a happy being.

He only has to put the Montenegro's in jail. Putting them in jail would make her see him as his idol. A smile left his cheeks.

He sensed a bus driving very close and fast to the path he was walking on.

Turning to check why it was driving closer to him without horning and instead of the free road to use, he was hit on the head and taken into the bus that immediately zoomed off.

He had been awoken by the feel of the cold water that had been poured on his body, his eyes were blindfolded, his hands binded at his back and his legs tied to the seat he was made to sit on.

He sensed someone walking up to him, he guessed him to be the leader of the gang since he was the one that spoke first and had the most commanding tone amongst the other men.

"Is he the one that submitted the court papers to Sue the governor?" He asked.

" Yes boss, he is the one" he had heard another voice reply.

" What are you still waiting for? Start torturing him. How dare he even think of that. Who gave him the right to?" The voice questioned.

The man gave off a familiar scent but he couldn't determine whether it was a perfume made of Amber or Oud he had sprayed all over his body.Je bad a musky voice too and with the way he spoke, it appeared that he was already used and very familiar to kidnapping, nabbing and torturing people.

"So you thought you could Sue the governor? Killing people?" He questioned and hit his legs with a plank.

Nathaniel did not scream, he made no noise, he held the pain from the hitting not showing any form of anger. It would show that he was giving up, and he wasn't planning to make him feel upper nor make him feel that he could bully him into withdrawing the case.

Seeing the impertinent expression on his face, the man dropped the plank.

"Morgana" he voiced and looked up at Nathaniel who got apprehensive at the mention of the name.

The man chuckled.

"Oh wow. If I knew the girl would make you that easy to deal with, I should have kidnapped her instead" he said to further infuriate him, sensing that he had found his weak point.

" Morgana, graduated from highschool a week ago, Eighteen years old, hasn't decided which college she'd go to nor the course to study. Stays at the Orphanage along the towns road" he began listing everything about her while throwing several pictures of her on him, even though he knew he couldn't see them not touch them.

"So which one is it going to be? What choice are you going to make?" He questioned picking up the plank again.

" Be quick with it" he added.

Raising the plank to begin hitting him again, " consider this my warning to you to never cross your boundaries issuing court cases about" he said and proceeded to hit him with the plank.

He was stopped midway when his phone rang.

Nathaniel couldn't tell who had called him but from the look of things, it had seemed like he had been instructed to let him go.

He never knew why. Till date he hadn't been able to find the reason why.

It was not as if his father was rich nor in the category of the Montenegro's. His father was a business man only able to afford some of his excesses and those of other people.

He wasn't a billionaire and with his demeanor, didn't seem like he wanted to be one, so he never understood why he was freed and left in the hideout he had been taken to after being warned to withdraw the court case or hold Morgana's dead body in his arms.

Staring at the pictures that were scattered all over the floor in front of him, he had cried.

What would he tell Morgana.

It was a hard choice for him. He couldn't lose her and he couldn't betray her by withdrawing the case without her knowledge either. He also didn't want to tell her that she had been found out and was being trailed.

From the man's point of view, he seemed not to have found out that Morgana was the daughter of the people he was seeking justice for.

He only saw her as his lover and the woman that made him do what he never wanted to.

If he were not to withdraw the case, she might be kidnapped next and perhaps then, she might be found out to be the runaway daughter of the victims of the governors wickedness and she might be brutally killed by then.

Picking all of the photos one by one at where they scattered, he has packed them into his bag which had been unearthed just like all the contents of his laptop.

They were computer literate enough to check his electronics to know whether he had any evidence against the governor in them, but he had been a diligent student and had locked away files that were of maximum importance to him in secret folders, secret folders that wouldn't be found easily by third parties.

Running out of the hideout, he had walked till he was able to find network on his phone and logged online and frantically began searching for universities abroad to apply on Morgana's behalf.

He found one, in Canada, and the next task had been choosing a course for her.

Morgana hadn't decided what she wanted to be yet. If asked, she had always told him that she wanted to be a billionaire, the richest billionaire in Montenegro.

There wasn't a course that taught people how to become billionaires, so he made the decision and picked the one that came close to it.

He chose a business degree for her.

Business men were mostly the people that became billionaires in Montenegro, if she studied business abroad and returned after implementing what she had learnt, she might become the next richest billionaire of Montenegro, just like she had always wanted.

Planning to click on it, he was held back when he saw the degree in arts.

Morgana was good at dancing, ballet and even singing.

She didn't know but he had always watched her whenever she sang or danced when it was her turn to wash the dishes at the orphanage.

He had always watched over her, when she was asleep, he watched over whatever she wore, learning needlework and sewing and amended all her clothes that had a tear in them whenever she slept because if she were awake she wouldn't accept him doing it.

He had always followed her, be had always loved her since time immemorial.

Since she came to the orphanage, since he had set his eyes on her.

She had been his new reason to continue living after the tumultuous childhood he had and coupled with his mother that abandoned him to run away from his abusive and cheating father.

He wanted to chose the degree in arts for her but thought against it. She was not the one to accept things being done for her. If he were to chose the arts degree, there was a greater percentage that she would refuse it with everything in her.

So he went ahead and chose the Degree n business, along till her Masters, making payments for all the tuition, accommodation and other fees required using his credit card.

The charge was much but he did not mind. He would spend his other days working at the Firm and other part time jobs to pay off the credit charge on his card but for now, he had to protect Morgana with everything he had.

Logging out of the university website, he had logged into the Montenegro Airlines to book a flight.

She should be gone by the next week, so he booked her a flight taking off the next week.

He just had to find ways to take her to the airport now. He had to find ways to trick her to follow him to the airport.

She could stay far away from him and in a foreign land and city, if need be, she could find love elsewhere, he had already prepared his mind for it the second he had started thinking about sending her away while he was tied in the hideout.

She could do anything and whatever she wanted but most important for him was that she needed to be safe.

She needed to be safe for him, that was all be wanted.
