DAMIEN'S POV

“Sir, it seems you do not understand how crucial this deal is to us” My assistant, Aiden said, standing in front of my desk.

I barely heard him. My eyes were on the glass of whiskey I was slowly swirling in my hand, watching as the amber liquid swirled in the glass.

Crucial deal. Important. Whatever. I knew that already. Hale Enterprises had been aggressively expanding into the tech sector over the years, and this merger was the best shot we had at securing our foothold.

We would probably be able to succeed alone but without the right software infrastructure, our ambitions were dead in the water. We needed an innovation that could redefine security on a global scale.

And we had found it. The app was called Haven.

Or rather, she had found it.

Miss Carter. The unknown CEO of Haven.

Her app had started as a small project as I had done my research, but it had exploded into a revolutionary tool for women's safety, utilizing AI to predict danger, secure evidence, and help victims escape abuse. Governments were using it. Billion-dollar companies were lining up for a stake in it, asking for shares in the company. And now, she was making her first public appearance here in New York, not just as a tech CEO, but as a woman who ran the world from Switzerland.

The world knew her as Miss Carter.

She wasn't known beyond that to the public and I was truly curious to finally meet her. She was a true icon, someone able to do something like that? Damn, she was great.

Sighing, I ran a hand down my face, pushing away the thought. "Aiden, I'm well aware of how important this is. Get to the point."

Aiden cleared his throat. "Miss Carter isn't just selling her software. She's demanding a merger on her terms. I just received her email this morning about that and her secretary would inform us more about this. If we want access to Haven’s tech, we have to offer more than just money. She wants integration. She wants control over how her security AI is implemented within our systems."

I rubbed my chin at this new developmen. Smart. "So she doesn't trust us."

"Would you, if you were her? She's a business mogul" Aiden shot back, before hesitating. "Besides, she has other offers. If we don’t meet her terms, there are at least ten other companies that will."

That caught my attention.

"She doesn't want a buyout?" I asked, watching him silently.

"No," Aiden said firmly. "She refuses to sell Haven to any corporation. She wants a partnership. One where she has equal say, especially in how the AI is used. This is her life's work"

Carter. The name gave me chills and I realized I was still associating it to my worst regret and worst decision. Snap out of it, Damien. I made the right choice. I was being paranoid.

My fingers tapped against the desk as I processed that. It wasn’t just about business for her. Haven was personal. Had she had an experience that led her to make a tech for women's security?

"Fine," I muttered, standing. "Let's see what Miss Carter has to say for herself. Has her flight arrived?"

“Yes, her secretary is already here and she'll be here in less than an hour”

A buzz from my phone pulled my gaze down. A message flashed across the screen.

Sienna: Are you ignoring me?

Yes. Yes I was. She didn't need to know that though.

I didn’t reply. Instead, I locked the screen and adjusted my suit. “Let’s go. The board is waiting.”

The conference room was already filled with my board members when I arrived. A massive digital screen displayed a sleek presentation with the Haven logo. It was a minimalist design with an abstract phoenix woven into the letters.

Strength.

At the front of the room, The assistant I presume stood poised, addressing the executives with calm authority but she stopped as she saw me and she bowed slightly, waiting for me to sit down at the head table before she continued.

"Haven is more than just an app," she said, her voice steady. "It's an AI-driven security network designed to prevent harm before it happens. It’s already saved thousands of lives, and our expansion plans will make it the most powerful safety platform in the world."

One of the board members, an older man named Richard, leaned forward. "Miss Carter has declined every acquisition offer from major corporations. If she isn’t interested in selling, why consider a merger with Hale Enterprises?"

The assistant smiled politely. "Because unlike the others, you have something we need. We need global distribution infrastructure. Hale Enterprises has access to high-security networks, government contracts, and direct lines to industries where Haven could be life-changing. If we merge, we don’t just grow. We dominate the business world."

Another board member spoke up. "And what exactly does Miss Carter want in return?"

The assistant clicked to the next slide. "She wants complete oversight on how Haven’s AI is integrated. No modifications. No corporate interference. Not from anyone regardless of their status"

My brows raised and murmurs rippled through the room.

"That’s absurd," Richard scoffed. "She wants our network access, but refuses to let us optimize her software? How do we know she won’t use it against us? This is a business risk"

The assistant’s expression didn’t waver and for some reason I was impressed. "Haven isn’t just a product. It’s a mission. Miss Carter will not allow it to be weaponized, manipulated, or used for surveillance beyond its intended purpose."

"Then why partner with us at all?" another executive demanded.

"Because your company is at a crossroads," the assistant replied smoothly. "Your competitors are moving into AI-driven security. Without Haven, you’ll be obsolete in five years."

Silence.

I had to admit again, I was impressed. The team was sharp, strategic. They weren’t here to ask for a partnership. They were here to dictate one and they were already getting the upper hand.

Aiden glanced at me. "Sir?"

I exhaled slowly, rubbing my temple. "And when do we get to hear from Miss Carter herself? Surely, I should speak to the CEO herself, hm?"

Almost as if the universe had been waiting for me to ask… The doors to the conference room slammed open.

Every head turned.

The room fell into a stunned silence.

I looked up lazily, expecting another assistant.

Instead, I saw her stride in and my heart stopped as soon as the face registered in my brain.

It never left.

Without thinking, I was on my feet, my eyes wide as she sauntered in, a blank look on her pretty face.

“Milena?” I whispered.

  • MR CEO, I DON'T WANT YOU BACK   A HOUSE FULL OF STRANGERS

MILENA'S POV “Here” I whispered, my voice soft as I placed the plate of waffles on the bedside table, reaching out to brush a stray strand of hair ove Theo's trembling frame under the sheets. He looked so frail that my heart ached and I was reminded of my prioritiesㅡ Him.He slowly turned to look at the food then back at me, his bottom lip wobbling as he looked around. He had been awake for an hour now but he seemed so disoriented and didn't want to talk but it was no cause for alarm so I figured to wait for the doctor to be here in a few hours as I was told that he would be out of it for a while even when he regained consciousness.“Whereㅡ Where are we?” He looked worried now as he tried to push himself up to sit.“No, baby” I chided him, leaning him back against the sheets easily. “Just lay down, okay? You can talk to me while you're resting”He obeyed without asking another question but I could see the obvious question in his eyes and his next words confirmed my fears. “Am I…still

DAMIEN'S POV Silence.I think I was already losing my mind with the way she just stared at me.Say something! Anything! Was she expecting to share the same room with Theo?“Lookㅡ” I began but she just wrapped her hands around herself.“I'll stay in here with my son” She didn't wait for me to finish speaking.Right. Of course she wanted to stay with Theo. Fuck, I was so stupid.Moving a step back, I nodded, trying to ignore the hollow ache in my chest from how she just rejected me. Not like I was expecting a different response from her anyways.“Yeah sure, good night, okay? And let me know if you need anything. I'm just right down the hall” I pointed to the room down the hallway and i could swear that I saw her eyes furrow, pulling together as she looked at the door.“That's not your room” She pointed out.Obviously.I gave a small smile. “I'm aware but it's just so I'm within reach, okay? Good night. We'll talk better in the morning, I know this is all very overwhelming to youㅡ” I wa

  • MR CEO, I DON'T WANT YOU BACK   WITH ME LIKE ALWAYS

MILENA'S POV Morning came and I was sitting in the waiting room, my eyes red for staying up all night and I could feel a hollow ache in my chest from everything that had happened the previous night.Damien was with the doctor inside the room and they had begun to start the tests and treatments and amidst my worry for Theo, I couldn't help but think about the fact that our marriage certificates was already being presented to the court already and would be finalized in less than an hour.It became clear to me. I couldn't do anything to him. At least not while I was tied to him but at least I would save my son.Once more, the door to the ICU was pulled open and Damien walked out looking like hell, his hair a tangled mess while he massaged his arm, the frown on his face wiping off once we locked gazes. The doctor was right behind him. “We're done with the first round and we've begun to give Mr Damien the necessary shots to boost stem cells which will be used in a few weeks and we're alre

  • MR CEO, I DON'T WANT YOU BACK   A DEAL WITH THE DEVIL

MILENA'S POV “Doctor!” I screamed, rushing into the sterile hallways of the hospital, the scent of death and antiseptic hitting me as soon as I rushed in.NoㅡNo.Dora was right behind me and she held me back as Theo was wheeled into the ER, his hand hanging limp by the side of the gurney.“No, you can't go in after them!” Dora held me back, her nails digging into my skin as she tried to steady me.I watched with blurry eyes as the door was shut close and for a moment, the world seemed to spin on it's axis and the sounds of the busy hospital in the dead of the night tuned out.TheoㅡMy Theoㅡ was in the hospital again. He had passed out. He wasn't responding. He wasㅡOh god.I collapsed to my knees, ignoring the sharp sting of the tiled floors against my knees. “Dora..” I whispered, my voice a slight squeak as she helped me to my feet, her hands trying to steady my weight. With wobbling feet, she led me to the waiting area and helped me to sit. “Are you okay? You can't quite pass out ri

  • MR CEO, I DON'T WANT YOU BACK   TICKING TIMEBOMB

MILENA'S POV The car ride back to the hotel was quiet and Dora sat beside me, her gaze fixed on the iPad in her hand but I could swear that I felt her gaze burning into the side of my head each time I looked outside the window.I wasn't sure why I was bothered. Damien was still with Siennaㅡ so what? Why would I care? Why was I this angry about it? Was it the fact that he conveniently managed to leave that out?Was he also planning something? There was no way he would propose a marriage contract to me when he was still with my sister. Maybe he wanted to humiliate me. Dangle what I needed most in my face then forcefully take it back after he had a day over Theo. No, I couldn't let that happen.“How did it go?” Dora finally asked, taking off her thin-rimmed glasses before turning to me.I shrugged and looked outside the window at the lights of the city's nightlife as we sped by.“Don't worry about it” I muttered, clearly not wanting to talk about it.She nodded and muttered something un

What the fuck did he think I would say to that stupid document he had sent to me? Oh yeah, you could take 40% of my say in the company just so you could wave around a hefty sum in my face?My heels tapped against the floor. One. Two. Three. Over and over.Suddenly, the door was pushed open and Damien walked in, looking like he had just run a mile and almost immediately, his eyes landed on me. I'd be lying if I said my heart didn't skip a beat by the way he just…stared.Everyone else stood up and greeted him but I remained seated, my legs crossed as i watched him collapse on his seat on the other end of the conference table.“You're late” I pulled off my glasses, setting it on the glass table. He still
