The taxi drove slowly through the streets of New Jersey. Rebecca sat in the back seat, looking at the passing scenery through the window. Her mind was still filled with the last conversation with Nora. Rebecca’s chest felt tight, but she forced herself to remain calm.

“You have to eat well,” she murmured softly, stroking her stomach. “Mommy promised, we’ll eat seafood today. Let’s celebrate the good news from the doctor.”

The taxi pulled up to a small café on the corner—Marlin Bay Café. The place was not too crowded, the atmosphere warm with the tantalizing aroma of the sea. Rebecca got out of the taxi, wearing large brown glasses, a round hat, and a patterned cloth mask. She walked slowly inside, choosing to sit in a corner.

A waiter approached. “What would you like to order, Miss?”

“Butter sauce prawns, fried squid, and cold avocado juice. No spice, please,” Rebecca replied, smiling behind her mask.

“Okay. Please wait, Miss.”
