LOGINJOCELYN’s POV
The photos were everywhere by morning. My phone buzzed nonstop with news alerts, social media mentions, and board members calling. The headlines were relentless: Jocelyn Campbell Marries Daniel Steele in a Surprise Ceremony. Blackwood-Campbell Wedding Canceled — Heiress Marries Rival CEO. Steele vs. Blackwood: The Family Feud Just Got Personal. I tossed my phone on the dining table, ignoring the fifteenth missed call from my aunt. Daniel sat on the far end, coffee in hand, perfectly calm, like he wasn’t the center of the biggest corporate scandal of the year. “Our marriage is trending,” he said casually. “I saw,” I muttered. He sipped his coffee. “When you leave the house, try to put a smile on that face of yours. You don’t want the paparazzi thinking that you were forced into this marriage with me.” “I didn’t marry you for gossip,” I said flatly. He smirked. “No, you married me for revenge, but the gossip remains the delivery system.” I shook my head, grabbing my blazer. “I have to be at the office now, even though there will be so many questions.” He said nothing, and I stood to leave. I walked past him, but he immediately grabbed me by my hand, not in a rough way, sending warmth between my legs. “No matter what they say, I believe you can handle it. Let your hunger for revenge drive you.” My eyes widened in shock. This was the first time since I moved in with him that he spoke to me like a human. I opened my mouth to thank him, but what came out was this—— “I don’t need your advice, thanks,” then I shrugged my hand off his grip and walked out, feeling his eyes on me. By the time I walked into Campbell Group headquarters, the building was buzzing. Employees were pretending to work but whispering in corners, and cameras flashed outside. The receptionist looked like she’d swallowed her own tongue when I stepped into the lobby together. “Mrs. Steele,” she stammered. I shut my eyes tight. “Get used to it.” I didn’t even make it to my office before my assistant rushed over. “Jocelyn, I mean, Mrs. Steele. The board wants a meeting. Now.” “Of course they do,” I muttered. I followed her to the boardroom, and before I could walk in, I heard his voice from behind. “Wifey.” I turned, shocked as ever, as he walked to me with a smile. “What in god’s name are you doing here?” He looked so unbothered. “Figured I would come over to be my wife’s support system.” “Mr. Steele..” “Mrs. Steele… they are waiting.” My assistant reminded me, and I nodded, walking in with Daniel behind me. The board members were waiting. Half of them looked furious. The other half looked like they wanted to avoid eye contact. We took our seats, and the meeting proceeded. “Jocelyn,” one of them began, “this sudden change in your marital status—” I cut him off. “Does not affect my position at Campbell Group. My shares remain unchanged. My authority remains unchanged.” Another board member leaned forward. “But marrying Daniel Steele—” Daniel stepped in smoothly. “Means she now has the full backing of Steele Enterprises. That should be good news for all of you.” Daniel’s voice didn’t waver. “Unless, of course, you were hoping to side with Ethan Blackwood in his unfortunate ventures.” The silence around the table was instant. Ethan shifted in his seat, tightening his jaw. “Daniel, you’re not part of this board. This is a Campbell Group meeting.” “Correction,” I said smoothly, leaning forward. “He is part of this board now. As my husband, he has my proxy vote on all corporate decisions, and as of this morning, Daniel Steele owns a significant percentage of Campbell Group shares.” Clarissa’s head snapped toward me. “What?” I smiled thinly. “Surprised? You shouldn’t be. You’ve both been so invested in my personal life, I thought you’d have anticipated a move like this.” Ethan’s voice hardened. “Jocelyn, you can’t just—” “I can,” I interrupted coldly. “And I did.” One of the older board members, Mr. Carter, cleared his throat. “Mrs. Steel,e while it’s within your rights as majority shareholder, it’s unusual to—” “What’s unusual,” I cut in with a sharp voice, “is that two minority shareholders with personal ties to me have been influencing decisions for years without anyone raising a concern. Daniel’s stake is larger than Ethan’s and Clarissa’s combined. If there’s an issue with his presence, I suggest you reflect on that.” Clarissa’s knuckles whitened on the table. “You’re doing this out of spite.” I turned my gaze to her, calm but cutting. “I’m doing this because it’s my company, and I will not let snakes run it into the ground.” Ethan leaned forward, his voice low and dangerous. “Jocelyn, you’re letting him manipulate you.” Daniel’s smirk didn’t falter. “That’s rich coming from you, Ethan. Tell me, do you say that before or after you seduce your fiancée’s cousin?” “Enough. We are here to discuss business, not our personal lives.” Clarissa tried to regain composure. “Jocelyn, think about your image. The company’s stability. This impulsive marriage—” “Is my decision,” I said flatly. “And as the owner of Campbell Group, I remind you that you do not make decisions for this company. I do.” Clarissa slammed her pen down. “This is outrageous.” “What’s outrageous,” I said coolly, “is that two people with obvious conflicts of interest have sat on this board unchallenged for years. That changes today.” Ethan’s voice sharpened. “Are you threatening to remove us?” “I’m stating that you’ll be treated like every other shareholder,” I said. “Which means your personal feelings have no weight here.” Clarissa leaned back, crossing her arms. The meeting dissolved into tense silence. I gathered my files, Daniel following at a leisurely pace. At the door, I paused and looked back at Ethan and Clarissa. “Get to work.” Back in the hallway, Daniel fell into step beside me. “You did a great job back there,” he said. I didn’t answer, but he smirked anyway. “Congratulations on playing a perfect role as my wife.”Daniel’s POVI didn’t move for a long time after the screen went dark. The office was quiet again, exactly the way it had been before the file appeared, but it didn’t feel the same. The silence had weight now. It pressed in me slowly, settling around everything, and it made it impossible to pretend that nothing had changed.Because something had.I was still standing behind the desk, with one hand resting against the edge, the other hanging loosely by my side, but there was nothing loose about it. My grip tightened without me realizing it, and the tension settled into my fingers like it needed somewhere to go.Eunice knew not just about Jocelyn. Not just about my operations. She knew something else. Something she shouldn’t have been able to reach.I looked back at the screen, still blank, still dark, but the image from moments ago hadn’t left. It stayed clear in my head, not because of the man she had taken, but because of the way she spoke. The tone. The pauses. The deliberate way sh
Daniel’s POVI knew something had shifted before anyone told me.I was in my office going through some updates that didn’t matter as much as they used to. Everything had been tightened since the warehouse. Every access point monitored, every contact double-checked, every possible angle accounted for. I had made sure of that myself, because after what happened, I wasn’t leaving anything open again. The room was still, the kind of stillness that comes when everything is under control on the surface, but underneath it, there’s always something waiting to move.So when my system flagged an incoming file that wasn’t routed through any of my secured channels, I didn’t ignore it. I looked at it but there was no sender and no traceable entry point. It was just a file sitting there. That alone already told me enough. This has to be Eunice. No one but her could do this.No one else would send something like this without a signature and still expect it to be opened. No one else would get this fa
Jocelyn's POVIt wasn't news that my life was a chaotic mess. I went from living an ordinary life to fighting men, old enough to be my father during meetings everyday. If I wasn't getting kidnapped on an ordinary day, those men would be searching for ways to tear me to shreds. I couldn't think of what my life would look like in the future. However, in all of these chaos, there was something I didn't fail to notice. Now, this may be a little misplaced but Daniel's attitude seemed to have taken a quick bit almost invisible change. I mean, I'd always noticed him in every way. I knew most of the things he did and I knew him to be a tough, relentless person but these days, I was starting to perceive a change in his attitude and general outlook. I mean, we were on the same page about Eunice and getting our revenge on her but beyond that, other things were starting to come up at the company that requires regular meetings and during these meetings, I was starting to notice a different
Eunice’s POVShe finally came to her senses. After wasting time and resources, pacing and rambling all over the house like a deranged person, Clarissa has finally realized that she was playing a losing game and if she continued, she would fail so terribly. Her eyes followed me to where I was standing. I knew she was desperate to know what I had planned. Of course I had something planned for Daniel and Jocelyn. They were my main target but I also had something planned for Clarissa herself.I had no plans of letting her know until I was done getting my revenge on Daniel and that little bitch. Her desperation would be the exact thing I would use against her. I pulled out a sheet of paper from my pocket, just a tiny piece of paper compared to the scroll she used for her failed mission. Her eyes widened as soon as she saw the paper. She glanced at me, the paper then back at me. “What's that?” She asked with sheer curiosity in her eyes. I sighed deeply. Her mouth would get us into a f
Clarissa's POV Shit! My plan failed. I never thought I would say those words but with all the messages I was getting from my informants, it was clear that my plan had failed. The media hit was supposed to push her to the ground even harder, make it hard for her to show her face in public, even outside her house. But it didn't. Instead, she got bolder. More confident. Even more than she was before the attack happened. I was in my living room again, pacing around like someone on the verge of losing their mind. I was on the verge of losing my mind, if I hadn't lost it. I just couldn't think of anything else to do to hurt her. That bitch would just not die. Ugh! Rage pumped through every inch of my body and had me wishing I could just wipe her out in some sort of way. But I couldn't. And I was running out of ideas on things to do to hurt her. As usual, Eunice was in the living room. Her recovery process was slower so she spent more time here just smoking away like an exhaust p
Jocelyn's POV The members of the board called and I answered. I got an email requesting my presence at the office. They claimed our company is losing so much money and suffering losses on all ends. I had no idea what Daniel was doing but I trusted him and if I had to defend his actions with the board, I was ready to do it without thinking twice. As I buttoned my blazer that morning, I stared at the mirror with a grim look on my face. I was no longer crying or wallowing in self pity. I wasn't going to let the actions of a psychotic human being knock me to the ground. I pinned a gold, relic brooch to my pink blazer and smirked at my reflection in the mirror. My hair was done perfectly in wavy flows, my makeup looked like I had forty eight hours of beauty sleep. Everything I wore that morning was fresh out of designer bags. As I sprayed my perfume, the headline from the news flashed through my head again. “Such a loser move.” I whispered and smiled. I stepped out of my room wi
JOCELYN’s POVI closed the meeting room door behind me and looked at the faces of the heads and representatives of all the teams involved in the fashion show preparation. It was obvious from their expressions that I had interrupted their conversation, or better put, gossip. I ignored them and went
DANIEL’s POVVictor Hale walked in, the file I’d sent to him in his hands and a panicked expression on his face. “What is this? What’s going on?” He asked, gesturing to the file.I put my hands under my chin. “Is it my job to explain what it means to you? Aren’t you the risk and compliance officer?
JOCELYN’s POV“May I have this dance?” Marcus asked beside me as I surveyed the fruit trays at the buffet stand and I smiled at him and shook my head.“Are you leaving your date partnerless to dance with me?” I asked, glancing around to see Vivian laughing with a group of people. As the night had d
DANIEL’s POVWe drove in silence for a while before Jocelyn cleared her throat. I glanced at her before turning back to the wheel. “Sorry for making you wait.” She apologized. Is that all? I would think you have other things to apologize for.” I told her and felt her eyes on me. “And for losing my
