CHAPTER 48: WHATEVER HAPPENS, HE BEARS THE BRUNT

That child held Marianna in place, that child was her future, her hope, her life. And now he is gone. I sat beside her after I laid him to rest, at the back of Rosco's home. Rosco wouldn't have minded.

She looked peaceful as she slept, smiling occasionally in her sleep. I wondered what she was seeing.

I held her hands together in mine, seeing how much trouble she had gone through.

She stirred in her sleep and her eyes went open. “Princess, you are awake.”

I helped her rest her head to the headboard and she winced in pain. It was very early in the morning, I didn't get a single sleep the night before. Also, that was the longest she had gone.

I passed her a painkiller and a glass of water, without hesitation, she gulped it down her throat.

The look in her eyes might have half of the world's sadness in them. “Where is he?”

“I laid him to rest, you shouldn't see it. You shouldn't see your child's corpse, it's not a good thing.”

She choked on her sob gently, letting the tears fall on
