I left before I would do something I couldn't control.

"I need air," I told her, and I walked away from her in the hallway. My chest was tight. My hands were shaking. If I stayed one more second with her that close, in that red gown, I knew I would forget who I was supposed to be to her.

I didn't go far. I turned into the side aley of the house, where the light from the party didn't reach. From there, she couldn't see me.

But I could see her.

Mila didn't move at first. She just stood there where I left her, her hands holding her beautiful red floral gown. Then slowly, she sat down on the ground.

She didn't even care that her expensive gown would get dirty on the hallway floor. She just sat there.

She wasn't crying. She wasn't making any sound. She just sat quietly, fixing her hair with her small hands. Tucking it behind her ear, again and again. Then she fixed her gown, straightening the flowers at the bottom.

But her eyes kept looking back at the alley. The alley where I was hiding.

She was expecting me to come back.

I wanted to. God, I wanted to run back to her and pull her up from that cold floor. I wanted to tell her not to sit there alone on her 20th birthday.

But I didn't move. I stood in the dark, watching her, my fists clenched.

After a few minutes, she gave up. She stood up, dusted her gown off softly, and walked away. Not back to the party. She went upstairs. To her room.

I was still standing there in the dark alley, thinking.

can I still be an uncle to her?

The answer came quickly. No. I can't. I am not satisfied with just looking at her from a distance anymore. For two years, I told myself that seeing her was enough. That watching her laugh from across the living room was enough.

It's not enough anymore.

I want to hold her. I want to claim her. I want to be able to openly tell the world she is mine. I want to be the man who makes her sad eyes happy again. I want to tell her that I love her.

That I have loved her for two years.

Just then, I saw her father walk past me with a small cake in his hands. Her special wishing cake. The one he makes for her every birthday since she was a little girl. Only family is allowed to see that cake.

He went into her room and closed the door. I heard her small laugh from inside. For a few minutes, they were in there together. Father and daughter.

And the guilt hit me like a truck.

That is my best friend. That is his daughter. How can I stand here thinking of claiming his daughter?

But the feeling didn't go away.

When he came out of her room, empty plate in hand, smiling, I felt even more guilty. But I also felt jealous. I wanted to be the one making her smile like that.

When he was gone, I walked to her room. My heart was beating so loud I was sure the whole house could hear it.

Her door was closed. The soft yellow light from inside was coming from under the door.

I raised my hand to knock.

I couldn't.

I stood there. One minute. Two minutes. Five minutes. My hand was in the air, frozen.

mila,I have love you since you were 18 yrs

The words were in my throat, but they wouldn't come out.

I am 34. She is 20. I am her father's best friend. I am her mother's past. I am the man she calls Uncle.

Who am I to knock on her door and tell her I love her?

So I couldn't. I just couldn't knock.

With a heavy heart, I turned around and left. I walked away from her door, step by step, slowly, hoping... hoping she would stop me.

Then I heard it.

creak.

Her door opened behind me.

She had opened it.

She was watching me walk away .Then she called me back.

"Andrel, wait not uncle like she calls me

"My mom loved you and lost you. I read her diary."I turned back shocked.she looked straight at me, eyes red like she was about to cry.

"So tell me the truth... do you still love my mom? Or could you ever love me?"

He was back.I thought he left. I swear I watched his black car pull out of the campus parking lot after my morning class. I saw it disappear onto the main road with my own eyes.So how was it parked right in front of my lecture building now, like it had never left?My heart started beating so fast I thought I was going to faint right there on the stairs."Mila! Wait up!"Trex was still following me. He had his backpack slung over one shoulder and that persistent smile on his face that I had told him a hundred times I didn't like.Chloe looked at me with that weird gaze. She was looking between me and Trex, then between me and the black car parked at the curb. I knew she had a lot of questions, but this was not the time.We went down the last flight of stairs and I stopped suddenly."You guys can go home," I blurted out, my voice higher than normal. "You can go. He will take me home."Chloe frowned. "Who? Mia, who will take you home?"Trex stopped too. "What do you mean? We were suppo

  • MY SILENT WISH, MY SCAR    chapter 10:He showed up again

Professor Adams was halfway through his lecture on market structures when the door at the back of the hall creaked open.I didn't think anything of it. People usually came in late all the time.Until Chloe grabbed my arm and whispered, "Oh my god. Don't look now."Of course, I looked.Trex.He walked in wearing a black hoodie and that confident smile that made half the girls in the Econ department blush. But it never worked on me. Not once. His eyes scanned the hall and landed straight on me. Like he knew exactly where I sat. He smiled wider and started walking down the aisle toward our row.My stomach dropped."Is this seat taken?" he asked, already pulling out the empty seat next to me.Chloe looked at me, then at him. She knew I didn't like him. Everyone knew except him who I have told multiple times but he wouldn't listen .Before I could say no, he sat down very close. His knee brushed mine under the table and I shifted away immediately."What are you doing here?" I whispered, t

  • MY SILENT WISH, MY SCAR    CHAPTER 9

The lecture hall was already half full when I walked in. I didn't look back at the campus gate. I didn't have to. I could feel his eyes on my back the entire time, burning a hole through my backpack until I disappeared into the building. "You're late again." Chloe didn't even look up from her laptop when she said it. She was my roommate, my best friend since freshman year, and the only person who could tell when I was lying. "Campus traffic was crazy," I mumbled, sliding into my favorite seat by the window. I dropped my backpack on the floor and let out a breath I didn't know I was holding. It wasn't traffic. It was him. Professor Adams was already setting up his notes at the front, but I couldn't focus. My heart was still beating too fast, too loud. The air conditioning was humming, but my skin felt hot. My t-shirt felt too tight around my chest. Everything felt wrong since that car ride. The ride was quiet. Too quiet. He didn't say a single word the whole way to campus. The

  • MY SILENT WISH, MY SCAR    CHAPTER 8: ANDREL POV

I walked away last night. Her mother called from downstairs, "Mila! Come down for breakfast!" and my whole body reacted before my mind could. I was already sitting at the dining table with a cup of coffee in my hand, pretending to be calm. Pretending like I hadn't spent the whole night thinking about one question. "Do you still love my mom, or would you ever love me?" That private question she asked me in the hallway was still ringing in my head. I walked away that night because I had no answer. Not because I didn't love her. God knows I do. But because I have never really sat down to think it through on my own. Do I still love her mother? Or am I trying to heal my past through her daughter? I was still battling with that when I heard her footsteps on the stairs. Then she came down. She was wearing a short and a sleeveless top, her long hair packed up, her glasses sitting perfectly on her face. She looked different today. Beautiful. Confident. Like she wanted to be seen. Like sh

  • MY SILENT WISH, MY SCAR    CHAPTER 6: HOW I FELL FOR HER

Andrel POV:I still remember the exact day.It was two weeks after her 18th birthday. I had come to their house to see her father, my best friend. He was running late, so I waited in the living room with a glass of water in my hand, scrolling through emails I wasn't really reading. Then the front door opened.Mila walked in from school. Her school bag was hanging heavy on her shoulder, her hair a little messy from the day. She looked tired. Her eyes were down, lost in thought, and there was a quiet sadness in them. But even tired, she was beautiful. In a pure, innocent way that made the whole room feel softer. Then she looked up and saw me.In an instant, her tired face changed. She smiled. It wasn't a loud smile, it was small, shy, just with her eyes and lips. She greeted me, "Uncle Andrel."Something in my chest shifted. It was a strange, warm connection I couldn't explain. Like my heart recognized her before my mind could.I panicked. I forced a smile back, said a quick hello, and
