"Hey, D." Neil said by my back, carrying two glasses of whiskey on his hands. "How is she?"

I turned to him and thanked him for the drink, gulping it down straight and feeling the heat on my throat. I sighed at his question.

It's been two days since Madie stayed with me. And I loved the attention from her, especially because she is in her little space.

But I couldn't help but get worried. It's been two days and she wasn't coming out of her space. What happened at the orphanage the other day must have hit her hard? It worries me that I couldn't ask her questions and I wouldn't get answers.
