Chapter 1

Unknown POV

A young girl no older than 7 walked down the hallway, heading to her father’s study. She was clad in a beautiful pink gown her father had chosen for her during the day. Her black hair bounced behind her as she ran to her father’s study with a piece of cake in her hand.

“Father has been in the study all day long; he must be hungry,” she said, her smile wide in excitement. It was obvious she loved her father so much; he was her treasure. She got to his study, and before she could barge in, she heard voices.

“What should we do? We can’t hide her forever,” she heard her father say. Curious, she opened the door a bit, peeping inside. Her father should have noticed her, but he was too engrossed in his conversation. The little girl tilted her head in curiosity as she saw her father, her mother, her uncle Alaric, and a woman she didn’t recognise.

“She is going to cause so much danger, Harold; we have to hide her,” the woman said, her voice hoarse.

“I am no coward; I don’t care; I will be here for her forever; nothing will happen to my daughter under my watch,” her father snapped.

“Do you know who she is? She is not even your daughter,” the woman snapped back.

“She is my daughter’s witch; my mate gave a bitch to her; I watched her push her out,” he argued back. The woman turned to Alaric in panic.

“Alaric talks to him; he is not aware of the danger ahead of her future; once she turns 18, everything will change. Your daughter is not an ordinary wolf; she is a celestial being; her future is uncertain once she turns 18,” she said, her voice holding worry. The little girl was confused. What were they talking about?

“What are you suggesting?” Alaric asked, equally worried. It’s no secret that Maeve was like his daughter; he loved her so much, and he and her father are brothers. They are not blood brothers, but what they have is bigger than any sibling relationship.

“Give her to me; I can protect her; I can shut her out of this world,” she said, and they can hear the desperation in her voice. Harold stood up abruptly, slamming the table.

“I knew it; you are just a power-hungry woman; you just want to use my daughter for your selfish reasons, and I won’t allow it now to get out of my office, you witch!” he yelled. Maeve flinched in shock. She has never seen her father so angry. How dare this woman make her father angry? Maeve thought, looking at the back of the woman. The witch looked at Harold, and then a smirk sat on her face.

“Oh, it looks like you want it the hard way,” she said, and it all happened so fast. One moment, everyone was seated; the next minute, they were all on the floor, and the wooden table split in two. Maeve gasps in shock as she sees her father on the floor, holding his stomach. Her eyes widened in bigger shock as the lady’s appearance changed. From the back, she looked like an old witch, her back bent, but now she stood straight, her white gown cladding her hourglass figure. Who was she?

“How dare you filthy mortal talk to me that way? Do you know who I am? I am your creator, your goddess; you have no respect for me at all,” she asked, walking closer to her father, who was on the floor, groaning in pain.

“W.who are y.you?” He stuttered, still in shock. The lady smirks, using her extremely sharp heels to match his palm. Harold screamed, trying to remove her leg, but he had no strength against her. Maeve's mouth opened in shock and, without thinking, she barged in.

“Leave father alone!” Maeve screamed, pushing the woman with all her strength. The woman turned around, and it was who she was looking for. She grabbed her hair, gripping it.

“Let go of me!” she yelled, biting her hand hard enough to draw blood. The woman hissed, letting go of her harshly. She looked at her hand as it healed, but her bite mark was clearly visible.

“You little witch, you have caused enough problems for me,” she said, breathing out. Selene couldn’t believe it. After waiting for years, she is here, and it looks like she is still causing troubles for her. She just wants to strangle her little neck before it becomes a problem for her when she is older. She growled.

“Come here,” she said, dragging her with her hair as she walked out of the study, dragging Maeve.

“Mother! Father!” Maeve yelled, kicking her feet in the hair.

“Give me my child!” her mother yelled, running after them. Harold ran as fast as he could as he watched his daughter cry heavily, screaming for him. They got outside, and it was dark, but they could all see perfectly. Harold’s mouth opened in shock as tree veins came out of the lady, wrapping around Maeve. The veins carried her up, squeezing her neck.

“Maeve!” Janice, her mother, screamed in horror as hot tears fell down her eyes. It was a horrible sight as her daughter turned all shades of purple.

“Leave my daughter; she is just a child!” She screamed, running to them, but there was a barrier blocking her; she couldn’t move close to them.

“It’s better I get rid of her now before she grows up; she is a curse; she can’t be alive; if she lives, it’s going to be disastrous,” Selene whispered to herself, watching her suffocate. Suddenly, a body collided with hers harshly. Selene flew into a tree, hitting her head harshly, while Maeve fell passed out.

“Maeve!” her mother cried, going to her daughter. She checked her body, checking if she was still alive, and she was breathing perfectly well. She breathed out relief. She looked up, and a handsome man stood in front of her, dressed in black. He looked dangerous and his aura was choking, but he had the face of an angel. Who was he?

“Odin,” Selene growled, standing up. Odin turned to her.

“I told you to stay away from her,” he breathed.

“She is a danger to us,” Selene growled.

“You are the danger; she did nothing to you,” he said. Selene frowned.

“That is not how you talk to your aunt,” she snapped.

“You are not my aunt. You are my enemy; you killed my mother and father; I won’t allow you to kill her again,” he snapped. Selene chuckled.

“Your so-called mother is a child; she has no idea who she is. Aren’t you ashamed to call a  7-year-old your mother?” she asked.

“It doesn’t matter; she will gain her memories when the time is right,” he said, standing in front of her.

“Not if I have something to do about it,” she growled.

“I won’t do that; you are surrounded,” he said, and Selene looked around, and truly, she was surrounded as men appeared from behind the trees. Selene looked at Odin, breathing out.

“You win this round again, Odin, but she won’t escape this, and your precious kingdom will crumble under my hands,” she snarled, and she was gone. Odin breathed out, turning around. Harold and Janice hold the sleeping daughter tightly. Odin bent down to their height and he cleaned the blood on her forehead.

“You need to grow up quickly, mother; Tena needs you,” he whispered, brushing her hair. He looked up at her parents. It’s a pity they had to raise her, but he could tell they loved her with all their hearts.

“Take care of her,” he said, waving his hand. Their eyes blinked repeatedly, and they fell to the floor. Odin breathed out, kissing Maeve’s forehead.

“What did you do, my lord?” a man asked, walking close.

“Wiped their memories of this night,” he said, standing up.

“What happens next?” he asked.

“We wait; we can’t do anything now,” he said, breathing out.

“What of her mate, Carson?” he asked.

“He is reborn, but I don’t know where; I just have to monitor her,” he said.

“What if Selene gets to him? She might interfere in the mate bond,” he said.

“She will interfere, but if they fell in love before without the mate bond, they would do it again,” he said, thinking of his father, his mother’s mate. He looked at her again, and he smiled. He has been waiting for centuries for her to be reborn, and now she is finally reborn.

“I hope even without your memories, you will be strong enough to deal with what would happen to you in the mortal world. When the time is right, I will show myself to you,” he said, looking at her, and they all vanished into thin air, leaving Harold, Janice, Alaric, and little Maeve on the floor, passed out cold.
