Maeve POV
A soft knock woke me up from my troubled sleep. I didn’t want to answer the knock because being awake will remind me of everything that just happened in the span of hours and I don’t want to remember them at all but the knocks were persittent so having no choice I sat up from the floor I slept off on. I cracked my neck harshly, rearranging my neck. Can’t believe I slept off on the damn bed.
“Maeve,” a voice called from behind the door. I sighed, standing up and opening the door and the girl was standing behind it with a smile on her face.
“I am sorry to disturb you but it is time to eat, and it is compulsory to eat in the dining hall if you live in the pack house, alpha’s order,” she said, hoping I don’t refuse. It is also compulsory in my pack because father saw it as a way to bond with his pack members, it was always fun because of the pack pups and teenagers, teenagers can be very loud. I remember when my father would carry the little pups, feed them and act like he was their father. It is a wholesome memory, mother sitting with the pack moms while I sat with my friends.
“Hello,” the lady in front of me said, waving her hands. I cleared my throat.
“I don’t have any clothes,” I said. She smiled, bringing her arms forward and I just noticed she was carrying some folded clothes. I collected it from her.
“I will come back to take you to the dinning hall in 10 minutes time, please be ready,” she said.
“Thank you,” I said, moving back and closing the door. She is way too happy for my depressing mood. I dropped the clothes on the bed then looked for the bathroom because the room has two doors. Closet and bathroom, thankfully the first door was the bathroom. The bathroom is not as big as mine, the shower stall is smaller, and there are no bathtubs. Just a plain looking bathroom with a shower at the end of the rectangular room, by the left side is the sink with a round mirror in front of it and a toilet by the right, almost near the door.
“At least the sink has drawers,” Liza said. I breathe out softly, removing my clothes and keeping them in the basket. I entered the shower and thankfully there was soap and sponge. I turned on the water and made it lukewarm. The water dribbled down my body and I relaxed myself breathing out, this is exactly what I need.
I don’t know how long it has been but I am done bathing, my hair is wet and I am putting on baggy black joggers and a black long sleeve. It doesn’t have any scent on it so probably it has not worn in a long time. The door knocked again and I opened it. I saw the familiar face again and she smiled at me.
“I forgot to give you a slipper,” she said, holding a black slipper. I collected it, putting it on.
“Thank you,” I said.
“Are you all set?” she asked.
“Yes,” I nod my head coming outside and closing the door.
“Okay, this way,” she said. I followed beside her, dragging the herms of the black long sleeves.
“Will the alpha be there?” I asked. She looked at me, happy I talked to her probably.
“Yes, he always eats with the pack,” she answered. I nod my head, at least he has one nice feature about him.
“My name is Maya by the way,” she said. I nod my head, already knowing she knows my name.
“I am the beta female of the pack and you must have me Felix, the beta of the pack,” she said.
“The one that brought me here?” I asked.
“Yes, that’s him,” I nod my head. She is lucky, her mate is so gentle and calm from what I noticed in the few hours I met him, at least he didn’t reject her like some other mates do. We walked down the stairs and took a little walk then we got to a big door.
“This is the dining hall,” she said, opening the door and I was welcomed with the fresh aroma and a lot of noises. The whole place was parked with teenagers laughing loudly.
“The elders eat there while the teenagers eat there,” she said, pointing. And true enough the teenagers were seated on another table, they were eating and making a lot of noise while the elders sat, eating calmly and conversing. Suddenly I noticed the whole place was quiet and there was pin drop silence as they all stared at me.
“Where am I sitting?” I asked, ignoring their looks.
“With me,” she said, walking and I followed her quietly. We got to the table and I noticed he was sitting there but I ignored him, sitting beside Maya. He sat at the first table with the beta by his right, the left was empty because it is for the luna but it will probably remain empty forever, beside the luna chair is Maya then I then the rest followed.
I sat up straight, looking forward as people still stared at me and it was becoming so irritating and I am sure I am supposed to sit with the teenagers because technically I am not an adult until I find my mate and we mate. But I guess I get preferential treatment because I was an alpha daughter.
“Am I supposed to be here?” I asked Maya, looking at her. She smiled awkwardly.
“Well no, unless you have a mate,” she said. I nod my head.
“I don’t, please excuse me,” I said, standing up to go to the teenager's side. She wanted to talk but kept quiet. I walked to the teenagers and they were also staring at me. I sat at a random chair, adjusting my hair.
“Fucking adults,” I murmured but they all heard me and burst into laughter. I ignored them too and served myself two scoops of spaghetti, with the sauce because that is beside me and easily accessible and there is already a cup of water and orange juice here so I just started eating my food.
“Isn’t her pack dead?” I heard someone whisper. It’s a girl.
“Yes, everyone died,” a boy replied to her.
“How is she still eating?” she asked. And I was becoming even more irritated, I breathed out trying to control myself.
“She must be a bitch huh? Her pack just died and she is eating comfortably, is she not even remorseful?” another girl said and that hurt me deeply but my feelings were side by side. I felt hurt and remorseful, the only reason why I am eating is because of my wolf, and I am trying to be strong here because I will never break down in front of anyone, that is what my father taught me but these people are trying to taunt me just so I can break down.
“She is supposed to be the alpha after her father but look at her, bet she never cared about her pack,” the bitch said, her voice taunting. I looked up at her, my hand tightening on my fork but she smirked at me.
“She couldn’t even save her pack and here she is after they all died, she is a disgrace,” she spat and one statement cut deep inside my heart. I have been trying to get rid of the guilt, guilt I ever went to the club, guilt of not picking fathers call, guilt of sneaking out, I tried to block everything out and just think of the good memories, but this stupid bitch just had to talk. I could feel my canine dropping as Liza and I got angry, our anger increasing by the second as she laughed with her friends. What happened the next second must have shocked everyone as I stood up the chair falling loudly on the floor.
Maeve POVHow long has it been? About 30 years later? I lost count, honestly. These long years have been filled with a lot of adventure, but surely a lot of things have changed. Pa found a fae woman, and they fell in love. It was hard for Duncan and Brandon to see their father move on, but after a little speech, they accepted. The Fae woman Angela was pregnant two years after they got married; they also didn’t take it well, but I convinced them this was their new life; they are immortals now, and of course Pa is not going to get married for years without having a kid. Long story short, Pa has five beautiful children with Angela, and Duncan and Brandon are the sweetest elder brothers to them.Duncan and Leah are still together, and they are still having more children. Ten years after Brandon got over Mason, he found love again, and this time it was a woman. She was actually his friend for a long time; she was helping him move on and being a mother figure in the twins’ lives, and along
Maeve POV“Damn!” Arthur yelled, totally invested in the game. The game has passed an hour, and none of them is half way yet.“Otto, what did you do?” Arthur asked, not removing his eyes from the game.“Made it harder,” he said, sitting down calmly.“Your son is going to be a wicked king,” Arthur said, and I chuckled. The game is getting harder and more complicated. The clues are hard to find, and if they find them to crack, it is difficult. Plus, the demons that jumped at them out of nowhere almost killed Bryan. Otto made the demons attacking very strong, then the humans attacking used their powers against them, and they have none. The game is extremely hard. Kennet went back to the starting line without his flag; blood was all over him.“Out!” Arthur yelled. Kenneth growled. Well, he lost his flag, so he is out of the game. He walked over to us, shaking his head while breathing out.“Isn’t this too much?” He asked, taking his seat. A guard handed him a bottle of water.“No, it’s per
Maeve POV“Do you think we are babies?” Bryant asked, glaring at us. It was the next day, and we were with the pillars. We told them about the plan, and I don’t know if they are talking about it well.“You have no choice; who is going to be the leader?” Ario asked. They all looked at each other.“We know you all are not on good terms, fighting each other over the position,” I said.“Still, you have no right to tell us what to do,” Kate said, glaring at me. I know she is not a big fan of my mother and me. She especially doesn’t like her; I remember her telling me Kate never really spoke to her and frowned at everything she did. She was supposed to be the leader, but mother was more powerful than her.“I have every right to tell you, Kate. My mother was the leader; I am her daughter, more powerful than you can ever be,” I snapped at her. She rolled her eyes.“Of course you are powerful; after your mother gave you the title, you didn’t deserve them,” she spat. I smiled at her.“You know
Maeve POVThe thunder and lightning crashed as the rain fell heavily. It was like the rain could tell my mood and how sad and devastated I was. When the demon king told me I had to kill my father, I knew it was a debate. There was no way I would kill him; there was no way I would look at the man who loved me so much and stab him. The look of betrayal would have killed me, torn me to tiny shreds; it would hunt me day and night. The plan was to get everyone to safety. I wanted everyone to be happy. I didn’t want any deaths on my plate, except for Jane, because I was ready to kill her at any moment. But as I stared at their opened coffins, laying side by side, it was very heartbreaking for me. Father has always wanted her by his side, so it’s only fair I bury them together, even though she isn’t worth it.“It’s time to close up the grave,” Ario said, his arms around my shoulders.“Wait,” I said, looking at my father’s face one last time. Of course, the rain is not touching them. They
Maeve POV“Yes, it was all an illusion. Attacking the villages, stealing crops, and attacking the military zone was all an illusion Otto created,” I said. And I could tell they were all catching up now. “What did you tell me the day you got married to chaos?” he asked.“First, I didn’t get married to him. It was me getting married, but it wasn’t me; it was a woman he was in love with. We both did it for our father, but we didn’t actually get married. That night I told you I simply loved you,” I said, smiling cheekily. He looked at me, shocked.“I thought you told me something very important,” he said.“It was important,” I said, offended.“So why couldn’t I remember?” I asked.“Because I wanted you to be curious. You sought answers and led me to Selene,” I said.“What?” he asked.“I knew Selene was alive; that was not her I killed. It was way too easy the way she died, but I didn’t know how to track her. But I knew she was watching you, so I made you search for answers, and I tracked
Maeve POVI stood, looking at her dead body. She was truly dead, and I don’t know how I feel. Happy she is gone or sad because she was still the woman who gave birth to me. I looked at George.“How do you feel?” I asked, my voice hoarse. He blinked. We were the only ones in the room.“Lost,” he said, looking at her. She slit her own throat. She is a coward. I sighed.“I’m sorry you lived a lonely life because of her decisions,” I said. He looked at me.“Why are you apologizing? It wasn’t any of your fault she chose to abandon me,” he said. Who would have thought we were truly related? I never thought about it once, but I saw him as my little brother. When I met him, he was so young, lost, and innocent. I grew a soft spot for him as he stared at me innocently with his doe eyes. He was cute.“I wish you met your father; he would have loved you,” I said, chuckling. Father has a spot for people like George who are naughty, playful, and powerful; they would have gone along so well.“He see
