Kamara's POV

A dull, throbbing pain at the back of my head was the first thing I registered as I felt my consciousness drift back to me. My limbs felt heavy and it felt difficult to breathe. The last thing I remembered was being in the garden and now… now?

My eyes fluttered open, everything dim and almost dark. It took a while before my eyes finally adjusted to the sight around. I couldn't tell where I was but from the fresh scent of alcohol and cigarette, I was tell someone was here not so long ago. I tried to move, but pressure dug into my body making me wince a little. Rope, I was tied to a chair.

My breath hitched. Where am I?

The last thing I remembered were those voices in the garden telling me their boss would love me.

I didn't know who could have done this but my only thought was either it was connected to Diego or something else but there was no way it would be something else because he is the only dangerous thing I am connected to.

“You're finally awake.”

A deep voice

Kamara’s POV“What!” I exclaimed. “How come? From what I know she is living her best life from the rest of us so what do you mean by she is in deep shit?” My words fell against each other like collapsed Jenga. Even though I have no idea what the details of her announcement are. I can feel my heart racing in fear. Chantelle muttered a couple of words that I didn’t understand. “Maybe I shouldn’t have said anything. I got too enthusiastic.”Now I am impatient. If she thinks we are just going to drop the conversation after she sparked up such a mood, she has got to be kidding. “Out with it, C. If I wasn’t going to hear it you wouldn’t have started it.” I said. She asked, “Alright, here it is. Remember the old man she was with?” How could I not remember? The sight of my younger sister being comfortable around a man who is old enough to be her grandfather made my insides churn for days. I wished I could drag her by the hair out of the hall that day. “Yeah. What about him?” “Well, he c

  • Mafia Diego's Surrogate    Chapter 96

Kamara’s POVI always felt my family was large. The few people that I have been closest to don’t exactly have beyond two to three people in their family sharing meals. With Diego, I never thought there was an extension to him and Nana. But I guess I judged too quickly. Here I am in the kitchen big enough to make the whole of a person's room, kitchen, and bathroom preparing an Italian classic meal with the women of the family. We are about to make Pollo alla cacciatora which is made with chicken as the most important ingredient. I was concerned when about eight women in their middle age with Nana being the oldest gathered. Only to learn some are childhood friends who have turned relatives, helping out with a Sunday lunch that the family and a few guests would feast on. Apparently, it was one of the dying wish Nana’s dying wishes. Insisting she didn’t want people to keep wallowing in sadness over her passing. I think it is an amazing wish. That is a person who loves her family enough

Diego’s POVPuffing thick smokes in the air, I adjusted the phone to my ear. “I thought you wanted to come down to Italy?” I muttered into the receiver. Fernando sniffed like he was smoking too. “I just realized there isn’t much for me to do there. Send my regards to Nana. I already called her though, so whether you deliver my message or not, it wouldn’t matter.”“You are such a buffon. You always have to make smack remarks like the moron you are.”“Why do you sound so hurt? I didn’t even say much.” “Thank your stars you aren’t close by. I would have had your end hanging loosely down your neck. “Ohhh, that makes me so scared.” His words were heavy with sarcasm. “Anyway, tell me. Is there any juicy gist that I need to hear?” Furrowed my brows to stare at the phone screen before returning it to my ear. “Who do you think you are talking to? Your girlfriend?” “Judging by the many years that we have had to spent next to each other. Safe to say you are exactly that. And you have to adm

Kamara’s POVI swear by everything I believe in this lady just hit my belly with the excuse of getting a hug. You would think her life depended on the way she clung to Diego. The sight shouldn’t move me, but I can’t seem to help it. My brows furrowed in distaste. Who does she think she is?“I have missed you so much, Diego. Feels like forever since I last saw you.” She cooed, placing kisses on his face which left red lipstick stains on him. I scoffed, unable to hide my irritation. That must have snapped them out of their bubbles as Diego coughed awkwardly easing her off him. “Oh, hi.” She moved her fingers in place of a wave. Diego stood closer to me putting enough space between him and the lady. “Kamara, meet my cousin Ivana. Ivana met my girlfriend.”Ivana’s eyes practically peeled off my skin as she stared. Even though she tries to mask her true feelings, I can smell it. “Oh, the baby mama. Nana wouldn’t stop talking about her. Hi.” She muttered nonchalantly. I snorted. Baby ma

  • Mafia Diego's Surrogate    Chapter 93

Kamara’s POV “Do you really want to go on this trip?” Chantelle asked, her eyes filled with worry. Folding a dress into the bag, I shrugged. “It’s not like I have much say in this. The child belongs to Diego and he wants to make sure nothing goes wrong in his absence. I have to tag along. Moreover, it’s almost the end.” “Is that so?”I raised my head, furrowing my brows. “What do you mean?” “What do you think I might mean?” Chantelle retorted, her eyes dancing in amusement. “Something tells me you are excited about this trip.” Rolling my eyes, I plopped into the bed, reaching for my phone. “Don’t be ridiculous. It is not what you are thinking at all.” “I know you better than anyone else, Kamara. You have that glow on your face. The one you usually have on when a man makes you feel good.” I bit down on my tongue as I contemplated whether to tell her how yesterday went or not. Despite the news about Nana’s sister. Diego and I ate a sumptuous dinner that had me wanting more. He is

  • Mafia Diego's Surrogate    Chapter 92

Kamara’s POVWatching Diego move around the kitchen swiftly made my cheeks burn from excessive blushing. This day is undoubtedly the best I have had since I came into this house. It feels like a normal activity between us. Who would have thought he had this other side to him? We spent the whole day in each other’s arms like normal couples. My lips are softened from the constant kiss. It's as if Diego is taking up this opportunity for fear of being turned down tomorrow.Despite having my doubts, I can’t resist the softness piling up in my chest towards him. Discreetly, I would like this to continue. But then, I know better than anyone else what my reality is. This might seem nice, however, it isn’t durable.“How exactly did you get into cooking? Was it something you enjoyed or did you just not have any choice?” I had to start up a conversation to stop my thoughts from running wild.Diego cut through the veggies swiftly. “When my father was alive, cooking used to be our bonding time.
