Aunt Miranda spat in my face as she snarled, “You filthy little devil. I don’t know why my brother Gerald brought you back. He should’ve thrown you out into the streets where you belong.”

This wasn’t the first time Aunt Miranda had insulted me—I was used to it by now.

But this was the first time she did it openly… and no one stopped her.

I stumbled standing, looked at them in panic, clenching the bedsheet tightly around my body, hoping to find someone—anyone—who would believe me, who would hold me.

But…

I wasn’t used to their coldness, so their silence felt like knives piercing my heart.

They were all I had in this world—my only family.

I collapsed to the floor again, screaming that I was innocent.

“It’s not how it looks in the video! Someone edited it—someone faked it!”

Papa Gerald came back at the sound of my hysterical screams, pain and disappointment clouding his eyes… maybe even heartbreak.

For a moment, a flicker of hope lit up inside me—

But it was shattered the second he spoke.

“Basta! Enough!” he snapped. “Get out of my sight.”

“Get out of my house. You’re just like her. She gave birth to a monster before she died!” he added.

It didn’t need a genius to figure out who he meant, even though it was the first time I had ever heard anyone in this house mention my biological mother.

Like a lioness, Mama Marcellia stood between me and Papa Gerald, her voice steady, fierce, and full of defiance as she said,

“Take that back!”

Oh God, this day just keeps getting strangerier.

This was the first time I had ever heard Mama Marcellia—or anyone ever—stand up to Papa Gerald.

She had always feared him—always obeyed him blindly.

He exhaled carelessly and waved his hand.

“Can’t you see? No matter how hard we try. No matter how good we raised her…”

Then he looked at me with pure disgust and finished,

“She’ll turn out just like her.”

“Like who?”

The question slipped from my trembling lips, my voice barely holding together under the weight of the tears choking my throat.

My eyes widened in a mix of shock and fear.

It was the first time I had ever heard anyone speak about my mother this way.

Who was she? And why would they say such things about her?

Without warning, five fingers left a red mark on Papa Gerald’s cheek.

Breathing heavily, sweat dripping down her forehead, Mama Marcellia roared,

“Mila is my daughter. Do you hear me? My daughter. And I won’t let anyone speak to her that way—no one. Not even you, Lord Gerald. Do you understand?”

My jaw dropped—I hadn’t seen that coming at all.

And to make things even stranger, Papa Gerald closed his eyes for a moment… then turned and walked away, leaving us behind.

~~~
Two hours were never enough to say goodbye.
And yet, here I was at the airport, standing between Mama Marcellia, Ricardo, and Marco.
Marco was usually indifferent, cold even. But here and now, he was avoiding my eyes.
For a moment, I thought he was just like Papa Gerald—that he didn’t even want to see me anymore.
But then he shocked me…
The moment I picked up my suitcase to head toward the plane in a deadly silence, he pulled me into a tight hug… and broke down crying.
Crying like his heart was shattering.
I was stunned.
I had never seen any of Hayden's men cry—especially not Luca or Marco.
Through his sobs, he whispered,
“Forgive us… we couldn’t protect you, sorella, my little sister.”
For someone who could cut off a man's fingers in cold blood or rip his throat out of his neck with bare hands, crying during a goodbye felt…
Strange.
Unnatural, even.
Marco was the only one who didn’t accept my presence when I first moved into the mansion.
Even though he was eight years older than me but always felt distant,
deep down… I knew he loved me like a little sister.
Just a day ago, I never imagined leaving New York—let alone the entire United States.
I had never even gone out alone before; armed guards had always followed me wherever I went.
And now, here I was, heading to Italy.
A country I hold citizenship in… but have never set foot in, and know nothing about.
I cast one last glance out the plane window at New York City, watching as it slowly faded from view.
“Goodbye, New York,” I whispered, as a single hot, broken tear slid down my cheek, burning as it went.
    I mustered all the strength I had and pushed the door open.The two people inside the room were so consumed by their passion that they didn't even notice me opening the door and stepping inside.My eyes widened, and I couldn't hold back a loud gasp as I recognized them.Marco and Irina.They were in bed. Together.They didn't notice my presence even though I was standing right in the middle of the room."Marco..." My voice came out as little more than a whisper.He was just writing our death sentence.He was sleeping with Princess Malakhov—the very woman we had come here to attend the official engagement party for. The woman who was about to marry a Bratva prince.They both froze.Marco was the first to regain his composure. He quickly pulled the blanket over both of them.Irina gasped. "О Боже мой." Oh my God.I slowly shook my head. They were dragging both our families into a bloody war."Mila," Marco said, trying to pull on his trousers beneath the blanket."You doomed us, Marco,"
    I let my gaze sweep slowly across the grand ballroom before finally spotting Irina Malakhov.She looked every bit the Russian princess the media always described.Her golden gown shimmered beneath the crystal chandeliers, hugging her graceful figure before flowing elegantly to the floor. Against the rich fabric, her porcelain skin almost seemed to glow, while the diamonds around her neck sparkled with every movement she made.One arm was wrapped possessively around her waist.Her fiancé.I recognized him from his last visit to Italy.He wore the confident smile of a man who had already won the greatest prize in the room, yet something felt... off.There was no warmth between them.No stolen glances.No effortless smiles.Nothing that resembled two people in love.His hand remained firmly around her waist, almost as if he needed everyone around him to remember that she belonged to him.The moment Irina's eyes landed on me, her face lit up.A genuine smile spread across her red-painted
    Everything went smoothly. No one suspected anything.But then, I faced a problem I hadn't thought of before."I'm not staying with you in the same suite," I hissed, crossing my arms over my chest. "Over my dead body.""It's not like you have a choice, Mila," Luca hissed back.The hotel staff looked at us with hesitant smiles on their faces."I'm not letting you take a suite away from me." He grabbed my arm. "We are in Russia. Do you know what the fck that means? We're out of our territory, out of our power... I can't trust them enough to leave you alone."I tried to pull my arm free."We're not even sure whether your mother has fcked things up here too or not. I agreed to come to protect your family's reputation, so at least listen to what I'm saying."I knew he was arguing with me only for appearances. I also knew I had no choice. If he had to, he would force me."Fine," I said.Once he released my hand, I headed inside the suite, while he followed behind with the hotel staff carryin
    My eyes fixed on Luca while he rested his head against the leather seat of the private jet beside me. I turned my head and looked back at Nadia, who was sitting behind me wearing Serafina's signature mask and long red wig. She smiled and gave me a small wave. I raised my thumb in approval. It had taken me hours to convince her to do this. She had been terrified, and honestly, I couldn't blame her. Pretending to be one of the world's most famous women while sitting beside Il Don himself wasn't exactly a comfortable mission. But I had no other choice. She was carrying Serafina's passport normally. Jamal had arranged everything regarding the visa and travel documents. As long as Luca believed she was Serafina. Everything would go according to plan. A small smile tugged at my lips. Luca opened his eyes and caught me waving toward Serafina. "So... you're a fan of hers?" he asked lazily, a trace of sarcasm in his voice. I frowned. "Why not? Aren't you?" One corner of
    Mila"What price... are you willing to pay?"The question sounded simple, but I knew Luca well enough to know what lay beneath it."What do you want in exchange?" I asked.He sized me up and down, his gaze setting my body on fire."I don't know..." he said. "What do you have to offer?"My throat went dry. I licked my lips.He traced my lower lip with his thumb."Do you have anything to offer besides your body? Because, genuinely, I'm not interested.""If you don't want to help..." I stammered.He raised a brow."...Yeah? What would you do?"I wished I could punch that provoking smirk off his face.But I knew I had crossed a line before, and now I had to endure this."I'm here not because I'm Mila," I started, trying to sound convincing and professional. "I'm here as the Russetti heiress. And all I want is to rebuild my family. And you, as Il Don..."I hesitated, unable to read his expression."...As Il Don of Cosa Nostra, you're the only one who can help my family-as one of the famili
    LucaMy fingers tightened around her delicate neck.This woman would be the reason for my downfall.I knew it.After everything she had done... She still dared to sneak into my office.And... toutch me!"What should I do to you now?" I growled.Feeling the eraction down my body. Just one touch from her and I was already hard like a …."Ricardo helped you, didn't he?""Luca..." she choked, her fingers wrapping around my wrist. "Air..."I stared into her frightened eyes for another second before shoving her away.She stumbled backward, coughing as she struggled to catch her breath."Everyone," I barked. "Out."Without hesitation, every guard hurried outside and the heavy door shut behind them.Silence settled over the room.I walked toward the bar, poured myself a glass of whiskey, then lit a cigarette.The first drag burned my lungs.Good.I needed something stronger than anger.For days, I had refused to see her.     I searched into Levi's eyes as I took a step back. “You know you can tell me here, right?” I said. “Please, Mila,” he insisted. I sighed. He deserved this small request. After all, my vacation was coming to its end. “Fine!” I said. “I’ll be ready in a short time. You can wait here in this room.”
