NIKOLA’s POV
I was lost in my thinking, the fountain looked like I’ve never seen it before, “Err,” The voice of that little cat brought me back to reality. I turned to her, “What took you so long, little cat?” I asked getting tipsy by the alcohol. She has a doe eyes, making her look exactly like a cat. “I..I was just…” She mumbled but I scoffed. “Don’t feel too relax here, they will make you nothing special. Let’s go, I’m getting sick staying here,” I snapped taking the lead which she followed. My chauffeur brought the car to where I am standing, he came out to open the door, I get in likewise the little cat. I looked at the chauffeur from the rearview, “I called you 10minutes ago to bring the car, what took you the whole day to get here?” I growled, he held an apologetic face but do I care? No, I don’t. “I was attending to your sisters, they kept sending me errands to their cars,” He replied and I rolled my eyes, loosing my tie like it’s the one choking me. “Did I employ you to work for them?!” I yelped getting pissed. “I thought-“ “As soon as we get to the house just know that you’re fired, I can’t keep an imbecile close. Pack your things and leave. You’re done working for me,” I ordered and rested my head on the window, closing my eyes to avoid any pleads from him. He should be thankful I didn’t ask for one of his eyes, how dare him! I could feel Little cat eyes on me. Probably pitying the man? Tsk, she’s too soft. The car stopped at the park, I got down walking towards the chauffeur, “My keys,” I scowled at him, the chauffeur hurriedly hand over the keys. “Now, get out. Never return unless you want me to skin you alive,” I warned and with that I was walking away when I remembered the little cat. “Your work is done for the day,” I turned to her and said. I walked away afterwards. I pulled out my phone from my pocket, “Come to the master bedroom, Amelia,” CASSANDRA I was the only one at the garage, “Why do I feel like Nikola is trying to pass his aggression on someone else? He’s harsh and that’s unusual,” I mumbled but I quickly shrug my shoulders, what’s my concern? As long as I’m not hurt, He can fire anyone he likes and he can let out his frustrations on anyone. Tsk, I’m not in the position to worry about someone else’s life. I walked to the elevator and it opened, few minutes later, it revealed the door to my room. I opened the door and walked in, bouncing on the bed as I throw away my bag and heels. I quickly sit upright, “I’m forgetting about the important thing here, I must be his favorite if I want to survive here alive,” I mumbled. “To do that, I need Belinda’s help. She’s the only one that knows Nikola dos and don’ts” I added and a smile appeared on my lips. I ran into the bathroom, showered and pull out a pretty dress from my closet. I walked out, taking the elevator, I arrive at where I can find Belinda. The kitchen. There she is, “Belinda!” I screamed like I’ve just hit a jackpot. She was taken aback by my scream that she almost flinched, “Oh my, that scared me.” She mumbled but immediately composed herself. “Err,,, to what do I owe this visit, Cassandra?” She replied with the modest voice ever which made my skin crawl. “Oh please, drop the formalities. Please talk to me like an elder sister would,” I mumbled happily. Belinda understood and straightened up, “So, tell me, what are you doing here? You should still be at the family gathering, isn’t it?” She asked. I sighed, “One thing led to another and the gathering was ruined, Nikola left angrily,” I replied. “Oh, let me guess, Tanya messed it up?” She asked and nod with a surprise. “Yes,, how did you know?” “I’ve been working with the DeSanto for the past 10years. I know how it works here,” Belinda said and I leaped for more. “Tanya and Nikola are half siblings and they are not on good terms, family long matters I guess.” Belinda explained further. Wait, if she knows so much about Nikola’s family, She can help me know how to become Nikola favorite! “Then teach me,” I blurted, Belinda raised an eyebrow. “I want to know how to become his favorite, you said it the other time. To survive, I must be on Nikola’s good side,” I concluded and she scoffed. “Are you planning to die?? Why would you think of that? I told you what happened to Rosa, didn’t I?” Belinda snapped. “Please Belinda. I want to survive which is why I’m asking you,” I muttered with pleading eyes. “Girl,,,You’re walking at the verge of death… don’t..” Belinda tried to persuade but I was so determined. “Okay! Fine! I will tell you what to do but in all you do, Avoid Amelia at all cost.” “A..Amelia?” “Yes, Nikola’s Mistress. She’s a venom.”Chapter 20That's His Wife?!!Minutes crawled by in silence until finally, the car slowed and stopped. Simeon turned the engine off but didn’t open his door. He just waited.Nikola leaned closer. I could feel the heat of him at my side. “Out,” he said softly. One word, no room for hesitation. My fingers fumbled at the door handle. The night outside was colder than before. I shivered, wrapping my arms around myself as I stepped out onto the gravel.I looked around. We were at the edge of some old clearing, a patch of grass that sloped gently to one old river. A small dock jutted out over the lake.“This is where you wanted to go?” I asked, trying and failing to keep the tremor out of my voice.Nikola closed his door and walked around the car to stand beside me. He didn’t answer. Instead, he reached for my hand.I stiffened when his fingers closed around mine.I hated how easily he could just touch me and make my thoughts scatter.“Come,” he said. He didn’t pull, but his grip lef
Chapter 19We're Leaving!!“Grandma!! We’re leaving after meals,” Nikola said.Mar looked up at him, her hand reaching for his. She held it tight, the wrinkles on her face deepening as she tried to muster a smile. “Promise me you’ll take good care of Cassy!” she said, her eyes darting to where Cassandra sat quietly, her fingers fidgeting with the edge of the tablecloth.Nikola didn’t hesitate. He glanced at Cassandra, then placed his large hand over hers, covering her fingers. His palm was warm, but his touch made her flinch just slightly. “Rest assured, Grandma,” Nikola said, a faint smile playing on his lips. “I’ll take care of her.”Cassandra lifted her eyes, meeting his. For a moment, they just stared at each other, hers wide with questions she couldn’t voice, his calm but carrying something she couldn’t name. She wanted to believe him, to let that warmth soak into her bones, but something inside her was still coiled up tight like a spring.“Dre…” Nikola’s voice cut
Chapter 18Tanya Exposed“Tanya dared to tell me lies…” Nikola squeezed his hands at his side in anger as he stormed down the hallway toward the room. The weight of betrayal sat heavily on his chest. He’d let himself believe Tanya so easily.Inside the room, Cassandra sat on the edge of the bed, shoulders hunched, staring blankly at the floor. She flinched the moment Nikola pushed the door open. His eyes was dark and stormy, but this time not entirely with the same coldness she’d come to fear. The second their eyes met, she sprang up, her hands instinctively pulling the thin blanket around her chest. Her bare shoulders tensed. As Nikola stepped closer, she took a quick step back, her heel bumping the side table. She darted her eyes toward the door, ready to bolt if she had to.Cassandra’s POVWhy is he here? Is he going to drag me out and yell at me again? I could hear my heartbeat pounding in my ears. His eyes didn’t look like they did earlier, though. He looked…
Chapter 17How Could You, Nik?!!Mar sat beside her, her hand gently stroking Cassandra’s hair.“Shh, child. Don’t waste another tear on him tonight,” Mar murmured. “You hear me? He’s a fool sometimes, a dangerous fool. But he’s still my grandson. And he will see the truth. I’ll make sure of it.”Cassandra sniffed, her shoulders shaking. “I… I didn’t do anything, Mar. I swear, I didn’t…”“I know, child. I know.” Mar pulled her close, letting Cassandra rest her head on her shoulder. “You don’t have to prove anything to me!!”___THE LIVING ROOM “Dre, find out if these reports are true!!” Nikola thundered, his voice echoing against the cold marble walls as he flung the crumpled papers at Dre’s chest. “Yes, sir,” Dre said without a second’s hesitation. He caught the documents midair, turned on his heel, and disappeared through the heavy oak door that slammed shut behind him.Nikola’s shoulders rose and fell with every labored breath. He turned, his jaw was tight, and stalk
Chapter 16How Dare You, Cassy?!!Nikola stormed into the room and met Cassandra undressing, ready to go to bed.“How dare you?!” Nikola barked, his voice echoing off the walls.Cassandra froze. Her nightdress was halfway over her shoulder. She turned around so fast her hair whipped across her cheek. Her eyes widened when she saw the fury twisting Nikola’s face.“What?!” she gasped, clutching the edge of her silk nightdress against her chest, as if that thin fabric could protect her from him.“You dare deny this?!” Nikola’s arm shot out like a viper. He shoved a crumpled document in her face its sharp edges brushed her cheek. Cassandra squinted at it, blinking through tears she didn’t even realize had formed. She read her own name at the top. Her heart stopped. “I don’t have any idea what this is…!!” she cried, her voice cracking.Nikola’s lip curled. He let out a sound, half laugh, half growl and threw the paper to the floor. It fluttered like a dying bird onto the car
Chapter 15The AccusationsNikola nudged at Cassandra to say yes.Cassandra eyed him and then, she nodded. "Yes grandma... I couldn't wait, I want Nikola to kiss me!!" she said, forcing the words past the tightness in her throat. She managed a stiff smile as she turned back to face Nikola, who stood there with that infuriating smirk stretched across his lips, the lips that only moments ago had whispered threats she could still feel burning in her veins."Great!! I should leave you two alone!!" Mar squealed like a schoolgirl. Cassandra’s stomach churned when the old woman gently shut the heavy door behind her.She barely had time to take a breath when Nikola’s hand shot out and wrapped around her throat. His grip wasn’t tight enough to choke her, but enough to remind her who held the leash in this twisted show they were putting on."If you ever try to screw things up for me, I’ll kill you and kill your father!!" he snarled, so close she could taste the venom in his breath, an
