Convincing them

Chapter 3

Author's POV

Saanvi was having breakfast with her parents. She was playing with the spoon, her concentration was somewhere else.

Her father noticed this and looked at his wife. She nodded curtly.

“ Saanu baby is something bothering you?” her mother spoke softly.

Saanvi is their only daughter, so both her mom and dad showered her with loads of love and care.

Her attention turned towards her mother who was looking at her with a worried face.

Saanvi shook her head and smiled,

“ I...I wanted to tell you both something....” Saanvi spoke in hesitation.

Both of them nodded and waited for her to continue.

“ Mamma, Pappa... Actually i...i wanted to discuss something about my job...” she spoke hesitantly. Her parents were looking at her, waiting to reveal what it is.

“ Before i tell....., you guys promise me that you won't reject to what i ask...” Saanvi asked looking at them with hopeful eyes.

They both looked at eachother and then her father spoke,

“ If it's something we can do, then i promise we won't object...will you tell what it is now???” he said calmly.

“ Fine then, I've got placement in Ace companies and co, which is in Mumbai.... And i should report to work from next Monday....” Saanvi said in one go. Both her dad and mom were quiet.

Since she's the only daughter to them, they never left her alone. Everytime they travelled, they brought Saanvi along with them. Since they were never apart from eachother, it'll be hard for them to let her go to the new city.

“ Paa, Maa don't say no.... I really want to go and work there, please...” Saanvi asked them cooingly. Her eyes pleading them, hoping that they will agree to her.

“ Saanu, what are you asking..? I think it's better if you stay with us...I don't allow you to go to a different place and work there....” her mother spoke cautiously, not wanting to hurt Saanvi.

Saanvi's face drooped after hearing what her mother said. She knew it's impossible for them to send her to Mumbai. Ever since she was kid, she was always with them, so it's not easy for them to agree.

When Saanvi got to know about the place of her work, she had a little disappointment. Because she knew it's hard to convince them.

Her father observed Saanvi's face carefully, he knew she was disappointed.

“ Saanu.... don't get disappointed, let's talk it through...” her father spoke calmly. She nodded making a pout, while his wife was staring at him in anger.

“ You both know how hard i've worked for this, now I've got it, let me go and work there... Please...” Saanvi pleased with hoping eyes.

“ We know it Saanvi, but how can i let you go there... We don't know anyone there....try to understand me...” Her mother stated.

“ Mamma... I won't stay there life long.... It's just for a year! After that they'll transfer me to Bangalore itself... ” Saanvi explained, but her mother shook her head again.

“ Do you think it's easy for me to leave you both and stay in an entirely different place? I don't want to give up this opportunity Maa, please don't say no....” Saanvi said in a pleasing tone, she was waiting for them to say yes. God knows how long she needs to convince her mom. But her mother didn't say anything, she was quiet.

“ Since it's just for a year.... I think we should allow her dear...” Saanvi's father spoke calmly winking at Saanvi and then looked at his wife, who was crooking her eyebrows at him.

“ What's wrong with you Ajay.... It's not just a year.... It's 365 long freaking days....... ” His wife said rolling her eyes at him.

“ Honey.... I know, we love our baby daughter so much, I know your concern but how can we not allow her to go, she has worked so hard for it...let it be, it's just a year... It'll pass within a blink of an eye, don't worry... Just agree to her Lakshmi, let's not hurt her ”Ajay explained softly. Saanvi was happy with what her dad said, no doubt her dad understands her the best.

Lakshmi was thinking about what her husband said. It did make sense to her. Though she was hesitant to let her daughter go but deep in her heart she wanted to support Saanvi in whatever she does.

The whole room was quiet for few minutes, Saanvi was looking at her mom - waiting for her to speak.

“ Since it's just a year.... I'll agree to it, but!” Lakshmi stated in a serious tone. Saanvi jumped in happiness and kissed her mom, not letting her finish. She hugged her dad, earning a soft kiss on her forehead.

It was hard to convince them, not impossible. She knew after few talks her parents will definitely agree to it.

“ Thank you Pappa..” Saanvi spoke softly blinking her eyes with happiness.

Ajay patted her head softly and nodded.

“ I'm not done yet....!” Lakshmi spoke interrupting this father - daughter duo.

Both of them looked at Lakshmi, who was looking at them in disbelief.

“ I agree but you won't stay alone in any kind of dorms or home stay.” She spoke, seriousness laced in her tone.

“ You'll stay in a house with Meera...do you understand? ” Lakshmi asked her seriously pointing her fingers towards her head. Saanvi nodded grinning her teeths.

“ Mamma.... You're the best..” Saanvi exclaimed waving her hands to hug her.

Lakshmi moved towards Saanvi and side hugged her.

“ You know how to convince us right... I still don't like you going there alone...” Lakshmi said in a low tone.

Her face turned sad all of a sudden, though she masked her expressions, Saanvi was fast enough to recognise her sadness.

“ Maa... I'm not happy to leave you both here and stay alone there. I just don't want to give up on this opportunity that's all. If it makes you unhappy then....” Saanvi said slowly, she paused as her mother shook her head. She took a deep breath to continue, but Lakshmi interrupted her.

“ It's fine.... Just a year.... And, we'll come often to see you....” Lakshmi spoke in a concerned tone. Her eyes brimming with concern for her dear daughter.

Saanvi nodded with a full smile.

Saanvi's POV

“ Saanu, pappa didn't object you in anything. I'll support you as long as you love it. Make sure you take good care of you, don't let pappa and mamma worry about you....okay..?”

“ Mumbai is very different from Bangalore.... You may find it hard to adjust to their life style, if there's anything that bothers you, don't keep it to yourself... Do tell us immediately okay...?”

“ You may have your own expectations about the new city, but see... reality is far different from our expectations...”

“ Remember we both love you... ” these words of my dad sounded again and again in my head like a tape record.

I was born and brought up in Bangalore. I've never got any chance to visit Mumbai. I've went abroad but not my neighbour state. I've heard of so many things about Mumbai, but those rumours are maybe true or maybe not. God knows!

I just hope my days in Mumbai will be smooth. I just want a peaceful work life. That's all.

I'll leave to Mumbai tomorrow evening. Meera's parents are doing arrangements for our stay there. Meera's parents are staying in abroad, they have their own business there.

During our first year holidays, she went abroad but came back soon after a week. She had some misunderstandings with them, i don't know what's the exact reason but i know she stopped talking to them afterwards. She didn't talk to them for a year. I tried to convince, but she's too stubborn.

She's so stubborn that, she denied to meet her parents twice. I felt so bad for them. I literally scolded her like anything. Whatever the reason she had, i didn't like it.

I literally begged her to talk to them atleast. Finally she agreed to meet them after my successful talk for a whole night.

After that day, her relationship with them has improved. She doesn't talk much but it's okay, it'll be alright.

So now, uncle has arranged us a home for both of us to stay in Mumbai. Thanks to him, he made arrangements for us within the short time.

My parents strictly told me not to stay in PG's or dorms. If not for Ganeshan uncle, my mom would never say yes!!!

Mumbai, let's meet tomorrow.

Next day.

“ Saanu.... take care.... Call me as soon as you reach home.... Okay....I'll be waiting for you call....” My mom said, her voice breaking as she spoke this. Her eyes welled up with tears.

She wiped my tears and hugged me. I was excited about this job, I'm sure. But, i never thought i would go to some other place to work. Anyways reality will not be like we expect, it's always different than what we want, or what we imagine. So, here i am along with Meera and my parents in the airport.

Yes, I'm going to Mumbai now. My parents are here to send me off. Though i like that job very much, parting with them makes me feel unhappy.

Since I'm parting with my family now, i feel so so so bad, just like thousands of needle pricking my heart at a time.

“ Mamma... Don't forget to have meals on time okay.... I'll miss you both very badly...” i spoke, my eyes fixed on my mom, who was on the verge of crying out loudly.

“ Don't worry about us, you have to take care of yourself, and remember what i said... Pappa and mamma love you...” My dad said caressing my hairs. I hugged him tightly. He's the best dad. He cupped my face and shook his head, meaning not to cry. I nodded.

“ I love you both..... Love you....mmmuaahhww...” I said and kissed both of them on their cheeks.

With that kiss, we parted our ways. Since it was the time for our flight. I kept looking back until, i couldn't see them anymore. My heart was hurting like hell. I was sad. Literally i wanted to sit there and cry my heart out.

Meera squeezed my hand and i nodded. She was watching everything silently, she must've missed her parents today.

My heart clenched as i entered the plane and sat next to Meera. So this is it. Tears started forming in my eyes, i titled my head not letting them flow.

“ Mimi... Get some sleep...” Meera said, her eyes held concern in them.

I nodded, closed my eyes and let the sleep to engulf me.
