The air in the bathroom suddenly became suffocating as he whispered those words in my ear.

I wanted to push him away, but I couldn't because my arms were already wrapped around my body. Exposing myself to his hungry eyes was like adding fuel to the fire.

One of his hands moved up my spine, igniting a trail of shivers.

I clenched my fists tighter, keeping myself firm. I couldn't melt in his arms. Now, I am not alone; a life is growing inside me that is completely dependent on me.

I can't risk its life for a few moments of pleasure.

"I told you to leave," I whispered, though my voice lacked its usual bite.

Nikolai chuckled in response.

"But your trembling body against me conveys something different."

I clenched my jaw tightly and tried to hold myself together when his fingertips trailed up my arm in a slow and torturous manner.

"It's you who is playing with it," I breathed out. "Stay away from me, Nikolai! This isn't right," I stated.

His grip on my waist tightened as his eyes

  • Mafia's Rebellious Bride: His Forbidden Obsession    127. Failed Parents

I gasped when the sound of a body hitting the marble floor echoed in the hall. Marco was on the ground, gasping as Nikolai slammed him down with a force that shook the floor.A few of those who were sitting on the chair immediately stood up, scraping the chair. People gasped and voices shouted in alarm, but no one dared intervene.Leo clung to me instinctively as Nikolai pushed him into my arms. His tiny fingers grasped my shirt tightly. He looked up at me with wide, confused eyes, and I held him close, to my heart. He is my son. My Leo. My baby. My attention shifted when I heard a loud cry from Marco. Nikolai has hit him right in his mouth, and he used to say bullshit about us. Before Marco could even grasp what was happening his jaw met with another powerful blow. Nikolai didn’t care who was watching or judging him. He was past all the thoughts. He has been holding himself from killing Marco long enough, but today, he crossed all the limits. To get into power, he tortured a litt

  • Mafia's Rebellious Bride: His Forbidden Obsession    126. Checkmate

My breath hitched in my throat, and my body froze when I saw little Leo running inside at full speed. A sudden silence spreads in the environment as the conversation dies mid-sentence. Every pair of eyes shifted toward the entrance. His little frame entered the hall like sunlight spilling into a darkened room. His soft curls bounced with every step he took inside, his cheeks were flushed pink from running. His chest rose and fell rapidly with excitement as he scanned the room. Then his eyes landed on us. A wide smile stretched across his face—the kind that only a child can wear, untouched by betrayal or pain.“Daddy!” he cried out. His voice pierced through the environment, cutting through silence like an arrow straight to the heart.Gasps filled the room as people started murmuring among themselves but all I could see was him.Leo. The little light. And what melted my heart even more was that he was clutching his Roary, tightly to his chest, the lion that I gifted him. I was so

The world seems to slow down when the stone moves toward me at a very high speed. My heartbeat roared in my chest as the voice of protestors became louder. My mind blanked out, I didn't have time to move away. As an instinct, one hand moved up to my face as I tried to cover it with my palms, and the other moved down to my belly to protect my baby because I knew it was still going to hit me. There was nothing much I could do in a few seconds. My eyes were tightly squeezed as I braced myself for the hit but it didn't touch me. I heard a soft wince which made me move my hand down and open my eyes. In front of me was standing my savior, like a shield. Nikolai. He was holding the stone with a force that made the veins in his forearm bulge. He threw it away with fury so much fury that it shattered on the pavement. His eyes were red and wild, burning with pure anger. The crowd gasped, and suddenly, silence spread among them. Nikolai may no longer be the Mafia king but people are still

For now, I decided to learn about Leo's father and talk to him personally. And for that, I needed to know who he really is. The file was right in front of me. With a heavy sigh, I opened it and looked for his parents' names, but to my surprise, the column was empty. My eyes narrowed. I looked up at Matron, who was also watching the movements."Guardian's name is on another page." My eyebrows drew together. Last time we visited the orphanage, she told us that he is Leo's father, and now she is referring to him as a guardian. Shaking my head, I was about to turn the page when my phone started ringing. Damn! I picked it out of the pocket to find that the call was from Victor. This better be good! After the last incident, I have asked him to tell me instead of Alessia if something comes up. It is not because I think she is weak,, but because she overthinks a lot. She worries about almost everything. Given her current situation, it is not good for her and her baby's health. I excus

  • Mafia's Rebellious Bride: His Forbidden Obsession    123. Thinking about him

Nikolai's POVIt's been ten days since we left the orphanage, yet I could still feel the tiny arms that had wrapped around my legs.Leo.His name stirred something deep inside me. It felt as if the name was very close to me, though I was meeting the little boy for the very first time. When he hugged me from behind, I couldn't understand how to react. I wasn’t built for gentle hands or innocent affection. His touch was very different, very delicate, warm, and welcoming. And when he kissed my cheek, I stiffened not because I didn’t like it, but because I did. I have always been so rude and cold towards the world that kids always used to get scared of me. It was for the first time that a kid kissed me. It provided warmth to my heart, which I didn't know I needed. As I entered the room, I found Alessia sitting on the edge of the bed with her head leaning against the headboard, lost in her thoughts again. I didn’t have to ask what was going on in her head. I knew it already. Not only d

I stood up and blinked rapidly. Nikolai was still standing frozen in his place. His jaw was clenched, and for the first time in a long time, I saw uncertainty flicker across his face."Leo," Nikolai called him softly. His voice was more tender than he used with me. The little kid ran around Matron and hid behind her. The little boy peeked out from behind the Matron’s long skirt, his small face framed by messy curls. His big, innocent green eyes looked between the two of us with confusion and hope. But he didn’t move.Soon, the volunteer brought gifts. The kids gathered around us, and we distributed everything to them. I bent down, handing out dolls and puzzle boxes, watching their eyes sparkle with joy.But I couldn't shrug off Leo's thought, who was still hiding behind Matron. He didn't come out to get anything. "Leo," I said quietly, "don’t you want to see what we brought for you, too?"Matron stepped aside to reveal the little boy, who, instead of answering, tilted his head down.

"Daddy" We froze to our places when we heard a sharp, piercing voice of a kid coming from behind. My heart suddenly stopped beating when the kid again cried, and this time louder with the same intensity, "Daddy!" Before we could react, the little kid wrapped his tiny arms around Nikolai's legs and hugged him tightly, hiding his face in his pants. It was a little boy who looked no older than three. Nikolai suddenly became stiff, I felt him inhaling a deep breath when the little boy hugged him from behind. He didn't move as he didn't want to hurt the little boy clutching him so fiercely.“Daddy, you came,” he whispered in a small, trembling voice. His baby tone was soft but filled with certainty.I felt my knees weaken. My lips parted, but no words came out as I was equally surprised and didn't know what to do. The Matron, who was watching all this with fascination, finally broke her silence. "Leo," she called the baby boy softly, catching his attention. "Come to me, baby." He sh

  • Mafia's Rebellious Bride: His Forbidden Obsession    120. A ray of hope

The silence that followed the doctor’s words turned the room cold. She took her ample time to open the reports without caring how we felt every second. I gripped Nikolai’s hand so tightly I was sure I left marks on his skin, but he didn't wince. The doctor finally closed the file and leaned forward. My heart pounded so loudly it was hard to hear anything else."Alessia, Nikolai..." She looked at both of us one by one. "The reports have indicated that there is a slight improvement in the baby's growth." My eyes lit up, and I immediately looked up at Nikolai. “There’s still hope.” A rush of excitement ran through my veins. I couldn't believe it. My baby has shown signs of improvement."The baby’s heartbeat is stable for now," I let out a shaky breath. Nikolai also exhaled beside me. His shoulders relaxed a bit. “But,” she continued, and that one word froze everything again, “this cannot be taken lightly. The growth of the baby is very slow. The changes are minor, just enough to ke

  • Mafia's Rebellious Bride: His Forbidden Obsession    119. The anticipation

“You should’ve seen Marco’s expression,” I laughed, placing a hand on my heart, which was beating very fast with excitement. "It was worth capturing," I added. Nikolai nodded, laughing with me. “I swear, if I had blinked, I would’ve missed the way his soul tried to escape his body.” Nikolai's laughter followed mine. I placed my hand on my stomach and leaned against the car for support. "I would try to get my hands on the camera and take his picture so that you could laugh whenever you wanted." I shook my head, inhaling deeply to catch my breath. "I wanted to laugh so hard when he shifted in his seat like his spine suddenly went missing.” I laughed. “Oh, I noticed.” We laughed together until our cheeks hurt. The passersby gave us weird looks, but we didn't care. We were already too lost in our own world. "But Alessia," Nikolai breathed, "I am really proud of you." He squeezed my shoulder in appreciation. “You dissolved it before it began. Anyone else in your pla
