Alessia's POV

The sound of beeping reached my ears and the smell of antiseptic stung my nose as I squeezed my eyes tightly.

I tried taking deep breaths as the last incident played in front of me like a movie.

My birthday.

Surprise.

Room.

Photographs.

Fire!

My eyelids felt like a stone as I fluttered my eyes open. The first thing that came into my view was the white ceiling. I look around to find myself in a hospital bed.

My heart came to my throat and panic jolted through my chest.

"My baby!" I gasped, my eyes wrapping around my stomach. "My baby!"

The monitor next to me started beeping erratically. A nurse immediately rushed to my side.

"Mada,m breath, everything is okay. You are safe" she told me.

"My baby," I cried, still not able to breathe properly. "Is my baby okay? Please tell me"

She placed her hand gently on mine and nodded softly.

"Yes ma'am. Your baby is fine. But it is weak. You pointed due to smoke inhalation and emotional stress." She told me "You are lucky t

  • Mafia's Rebellious Bride: His Forbidden Obsession    115. Cuddles & Kisses

Nikolai’s POV I never went there with the intention of killing Marco, but his words infuriated me so much that I wanted to end his game right then and there. But I had to control myself. First, I don't want to give him such an easy death; I want him to beg me to kill him. Death would be too easy a punishment for the sins he has committed. Second, this is not the right time. The world doesn't move; I am back, and I don’t like to attack from behind. I will capture him in daylight, in front of the whole world. I am not a coward to perform this task in darkness. He will surely get what he deserves, but first I want to take care of my woman and my baby. Once they are fine, I will take care of the rest of the things, including Marco. When I entered the house, it was quiet. I am sure my queen is still sleeping. The effect of the medicine is keeping her body at rest most of the time. It is better if she sleeps, because whenever she is awake, she always overthinks. I held the b

  • Mafia's Rebellious Bride: His Forbidden Obsession    114. Trump Card

Nikolai's POV I woke up in the middle of the night with Alessia in my arms. The night was dead silent. The only sound that could be heard was the low hum of the AC. Faint moonlight penetrated the room through the slightly open window pane, casting a silver glow over Alessia, who lay curled beside me, one arm wrapped protectively around her belly. I hadn't meant to wake, but sleep had abandoned me hours ago. The events of the last few days had made me restless. My mind was always a battlefield of thoughts. I never expected Alessia to betray me and leave me, but I understood that she was under the influence of her devil of a brother. He manipulated her, and my insistence on aborting the baby fueled her desire to separate from me. The baby she is carrying is also mine. I want my little happy family, but not at her cost. She is the light in my darkness, my oxygen, my everything. I can't let anything happen to her. For me, she is above everyone and everything in this world.

Nikolai stiffened beside me and my fingers clutched his hand tightly when we heard her. "What—what do you mean, Doctor?" I asked, breaking the silence. She turned the report toward us and pointed at the numbers I barely understood. "There’s been no growth since your last visit. Not even a bit. The baby hasn’t gained any measurable weight, and the heart rate is becoming dangerously inconsistent." My lungs stopped working for a moment. My heart ceased beating, my throat went dry, and I could barely breathe. I blinked, trying to process what she was saying. My lower lip wobbled as I tried to control my tears. "But... but I’ve been taking the medications," I croaked, my voice breaking at the end. She looked at me with sympathy. "But medication alone isn’t enough if you’re not eating properly." The doctor sighed and leaned forward, her expression softening, only to prevent me from panicking. "Alessia, the last time you visited the clinic, I clearly told you that the baby

I woke up to the chirping of the birds. The warm sunlight penetrating the room through the curtains kissed my skin. I could feel its warmth all over my body as I turned onto my side. But that warmth was not enough. I wanted Nikolai's warmth, his presence, his scent, his embrace. My eyes were still closed, but a wide smile stretched across my lips when I thought about last night. It felt like a dream to me, a completely unexpected surprise. I truly thought that I had lost Nikolai. But he survived and came back for me, for us. My chest fluttered as I remembered the way he had held me, kissed me, and cooked for me. Slowly, I opened my eyes; my hands began searching for him, but all I felt was cold sheets. My smile faded almost instantly. My eyes shot open, and my heart started pounding in my throat. The space beside me was cold and empty. A shiver ran down my spine. No. No. No. Don't tell me that last night was a dream. The color drained from my face as I sat up and looked aroun

At first, I was completely taken aback when he slammed his lips against mine. I wasn't prepared for it.Not at this moment. He always does things unexpectedly. But this ...The desperation with which he kissed me took my breath away. It wasn't soft or gentle, it was raw, fiery, and filled with a thousand unspoken emotions. When my brain realized what exactly he was doing, my fingers curled into his shirt on their own. The force of the kiss made me stumble back, but he was quick to wrap his arms tighter around me, pulling me so close to him as if terrified I’d disappear again. His heart hammered with equal intensity under my palms. He was feeling the same as I. Unable to hold my emotions any longer, I responded to the kiss with equal hunger, pouring into it all the longing, guilt, and pain I had carried in his absence. His mouth moved against mine like a man starved—devouring, exploring, reclaiming. It had been so long…Too long. One of his hands slid down my back while mine mov

"You—were you really there?" I asked in complete surprise. He softly nodded, his lips stretching into a wider smile. "Why didn't you come to me earlier, Nick? Why?" I demanded, clutching his shirt tightly. I would have actually been happy if I had known he was there. All the time, I had the feeling that Nikolai was with me, yet I still felt hollow inside. "Say something, Nick!" He chuckled softly before cupping my face once again, holding me as if I were fragile and priceless at the same time. "Because there, you weren’t just fighting, Alessia. You were shining.” He paused, brushing his thumb over my cheek and catching the fresh tear that slipped out. “I didn’t want to steal your moment,” he added, smiling tenderly. “But… it was I who clapped for you first.” I shook my head; he was impossible. "And what—what about in the hospital? Why did they declare you dead?" I breathed. "A nurse told me that your uncle took you and..." He closed his eyes for a moment, indicat

  • Mafia's Rebellious Bride: His Forbidden Obsession    109. Emotional Breakdown

The moment the intruder's face came into the light, the gun wobbled in my grip before slipping from my hands with a loud clatter. My breath hitched in my throat. Everything seemed to cease in those moments. My heart pounded so hard that it was deafening. I couldn't breathe. I couldn't blink. I was afraid he might disappear from my sight if I blinked. Am I being delusional or what? Because right in front of me stood Nikolai. My Nick. My mind refused to accept what my eyes were showing me. The doctor told me he had died and had already been buried, that I lost him forever, that he would never come back again, but he was standing right here, right in front of me, tall and very much alive. But he looked very weak. His eyes were tired and sunken. Yet they lit up the moment they caught my gaze in the darkness. Both of us were frozen in our places. "Nick," I whispered to myself. It was such a low murmur that I was sure he didn't hear it, but maybe he heard the voice o

  • Mafia's Rebellious Bride: His Forbidden Obsession    108. Missing him

The applause that followed my crowning ceremony was deafening. It should have made my heart swell with pride, but it didn’t. I couldn't immerse myself completely in happiness because something was missing. It wasn't just anything; it was the biggest part of my life. Nikolai. This place was and is rightly his. I am merely filling his space to prevent the throne from falling into the wrong hands. I was strong all this time, but I am unsure how I will rule this Empire alone. Drawing a deep breath, I stepped down from the stage with slow and steady steps, ensuring that I kept my chin high to prevent the crown from falling. It is not just a crown; it is a heavy responsibility that rests on my head. People bowed before me, and a few came forward to congratulate me with warm words. "Congratulations, La Regina,” they said. “You’ve made history.” I mumbled a small thank you with a soft smile on my lips. I could see that a few of them were faking their smiles. Of course, not everyone ca

  • Mafia's Rebellious Bride: His Forbidden Obsession    107. Queen has risen

“This is mine!” Marco roared, pointing to the throne behind us “I built this! I cleaned the blood! I earned every piece of this empire while you were out living in your bubble!”“You stole what was never yours to begin with,” I said, in a low but steady voice. “You manipulated the system, lied to the council, and betrayed your own bloodline. The only thing you’ve earned is a disgrace.” I spat venomously. He opened his mouth to say something, but before he could, I cut him off. "Nikolai transferred his property in my name with the hope that I will raise our child and give him everything he deserves. I can not let anyone snatch my baby's right" I stated. Silence spread in the hall, and Marco broke. “You think you can fool everyone with that belly and a couple of forged papers?” he spat. “You don’t know anything about ruling an empire, Alessia. You’re just a spoiled little brat and we are not even sure if you are carrying Nikolai's blood!”Unable to stop myself anymore, I slapped him
