DANI

Slowly, I dragged myself out of bed as I managed to get out of his cuddly, tight arms.

Terzo was still asleep. He must have been so exhausted for the last couple of days without proper sleep since our wedding in Las Vegas, traveling long hours to Palermo, then the incident with my father, the dinner, and the kidnapping that almost got us both killed. Not to mention the underground fight club.

It was still early. The sun hadn’t risen yet. Everyone in the house, including Gio and Marco, seemed to be still in bed. After I used the bathroom and changed to a new set of clothes, I snatched an apple from the basket on the table.

I really wanted to sip a cup of coffee, but I didn’t want to wake up the helper. I managed to familiarize myself with the house, its entrance, backdoors, windows, possible exits, and the CCTV at every corner outside the house.

I grabbed a car key from one of the keys hanging on the wall and used the main door so as not to make it look suspicious.

DANI“Hey. Thanks for coming to her.” Katie rolled her eyes. “You wouldn’t be there if it wasn’t for me.”I could see it now why they remained good friends. They had each other’s backs. Terzo was right. They would take a bullet for one another.“Still, you came to inform me. That’s kind of you. Sorry if I doubted your intention earlier. I was just worried.” I felt ashamed about my behavior. I was too caught up in my possessiveness, insecurity, and my emotions. “No need to apologize. I would have been dead by now if he had not saved my life. So I would do anything for him.”I played with my food. I barely touched it. There was a lot in my head. It just didn’t add up. “The timing could not be a coincidence.”“What?”“Huh?” I stared at Terzo. Did I just say it out loud?“You said the timing could not be a coincidence.”“Yeah. Your arrest. I don’t know. Maybe I’m just overthinking it.”“What’s important is his out.” Katie enjoyed her noodles like nothing had happened this morning. I gue

TERZOWe arrived in separate vehicles at one of the FBI field offices for questioning. I knew Katie was serious about her warning, but I didn’t know it involved the FBI. Now I understood why she hadn’t been answering my calls. She wasn’t arrested earlier, so she must have been helping them to catch us, but I never doubted Katie would betray me or sell me out. I thought of Dani immediately the moment I got handcuffed. I promised her that I would be home, yet here I was locked up in one of the interrogation rooms, cuffed to the table, and if there was an investigation that would lead to the killing of Tomas and my involvement with the family business, I would be serving twenty years in prison.Fuck. I fucked it up. I knew something didn’t add up when Humphries called me by my name and wanted to do business with me. He knew me all along, but never mentioned Dani’s name.Did Francesco sell me out to Humphries, knowing I would be paying his son’s debt? Of course. It made perfect sense.

DANI“Like you, you mean. You’d take a bullet for him, but from what I am seeing, you just sold him out.”No matter how mad I was at Katie right now, she was right. She made a lot of sense. I should have picked a side, or maybe I already did but hadn’t realized it yet. I was here with Terzo because I was on his side. Right now, I have to prove that all his sacrifices will not go in vain.“Girl, I’m the very least of your worries. I know Terzo will never be mine, and there’s no us.” She chuckled. She found it funny when her friend was in FBI custody. “Yes, we slept together, or call it friends with benefits, but that’s it. When we work together, we’re thick as thieves. Relationships? Nah. He’s more of a best friend to me than a boyfriend. He’s not even boyfriend material. And it would never work out between us. Don’t get me wrong, he’s good in bed, but I know he has a calling, it’s to run the family business. And I can’t be involved in another mafia. I ran away from one, not joining an

DANI“Hey. I’m glad you could drop by. Congratulations!” Gabe Linden just hugged me. I couldn’t get used to meeting some influential people like him. I checked him online. Damn, he was impressive, from rag to riches, yet remained humble.“Thanks. It was rushed. One moment I was escaping death, the next thing I knew I was getting married to one of the most dangerous people on earth.”He smiled as if, yeah, I’d dealt with this before. “But honestly, Siciliano is a good and honest man. I’m a little surprised, though. I swear I remember him saying he’d never want to get married.”I couldn’t help but smile and tucked my hair behind my ear. “Yeah, he’s full of surprises, isn’t he? Who would have thought, right?”“So, where is he?” He stole a glance at Tristan standing behind me, but he wasn’t surprised that someone was with me.“He’s working.”“I see. Well.” He fixed his tie. “My eldest was here with my wife. She likes to play with my tie. “If you need assistance, just find me or Hope, but

TERZOA hot flush rushed up my neck and spread over my face.“No. I thought I knew her. She reminded me of someone I met long ago.” I faked a facial expression as if it brought back a painful memory. I looked at Marco and crossed my legs. He knew what that meant. The plan might blow off.“I see. Me too. I met a beautiful woman. She literally came from nothing. After I dressed her up, gave her my heart, and everything a woman could ask for, she left me with a thug.”My lips twisted in a dark amusement. Was he referring to me? My heart jacked up. God, how I wanted to choke him with the espresso cup and watch him die slowly and painfully. It made the adrenaline rush through my blood. “Do you need anything, sir?” Katie asked, bounced her gaze between Humphries in me, held the tray with both hands while finger tapping in Morse Code.Long, long, short. GLong, long, long. OLong, short. NI read them in my head. GON. Get Out Now?“Get away.” Humphries signaled, his gaze focused on me. Rag

TERZO“I know it’s ridiculous to ask, but are you sure you wanna do it alone?” Dani had been edgy since we arrived back in the US yesterday. Like everybody else, she wanted to get this done so that we could move on with our lives.“I have to, Dani.” So far, it had been uneventful for the last 48 hours in Sicily. I was hopeful we could get through this without killing each other, and this was what my father would have wanted before I became the don. He wanted me to focus on business once this tension between the two families was over. Then he could retire. About the retirement, it put me in a tough position all the time. I’d been groomed to be his next in line, and I bragged about it that I was born ready. Right now, I didn’t think I would ever be. No one could replace my father when it came to handling business and dealing with arrogance, greed, disrespect, and dishonest people. He dealt with them with his utter calmness, and I didn’t think I had that. In fact, I was aware I was his
